The prestigious title, awarded by the FAW Trust in partnership with McDonalds, is given to the club which in the

judges' opinion makes a special contribution to the community in which it is situated.

Jay Probert, regional development coordinator for the FAW Trust, was keen to stress what a standard bearer the club is

within Wales

"It's fantastic. The Welsh Community Awards are there to recognise the achievement of those who promote grass roots

football within the community in Wales.

"It is about creating sustainable relationships with partner organisations, like schools and colleges and local businesses.

"There's been no better example in Wales, of how to deliver that within the community, than Rhyl.

"In the last 12 months they have made great strides and, with the added bonus of getting back into the Welsh Premier

League, it's been a fantastic achievement."

Club director Tracey Jones, who heads the community team, was thrilled by the honour.

“This is not just a reward for the club, it is recognition of the hard work put in by all of our staff and volunteers and the

“Wales manager Chris Coleman was extremely complimentary about the football club and the community when he

launched the Welsh Premier League last week. It’s good to know we are being noticed at the highest level in the game

for the right reasons.

“I believe we are the only club in Wales which reaches

so many people through the power of football.

“We couldn’t have done this without our sponsors and

partners, who have helped us immensely, and a very

supportive board.”

Chairman Paul Higginson was equally proud of the team.

"It is an honour and truly uplifting for Rhyl FC to win

this award. It recognises the marvellous contribution

made to the wellbeing of Rhyl by Tracey Jones, the staff

of the Community scheme, the club volunteers and the

Managing director Mike Jones said the community side

CLUB NEWS

ABERYSTWYTH TOWN www.atfc.org.uk .

AFAN LIDO FC .

AIRBUS UK BROUGHTON www.airbusfc.com DIRECTOR of football Andy Preece is optimistic that the Wingmakers can continue the winning trend when they

make the long trip to Afan Lido for Saturday’s televised clash on S4/C (3.45pm).

Airbus followed Saturday’s last-gasp 1-0 victory at home to Carmarthen Town with a 2-1 triumph at 10-man Bala

Town on Monday.

"Its a brilliant start and when you looked at the games on paper, with the strengthening Carmarthen have done

over the summer and with Bala’s winning streak in the closing stages of last season, they looked two difficult

games," Preece says.

"To get six out of six we’ve got to be delighted and the lads gave everything in those two games which were

really testing with the heat, so credit to them.

"Next up is Afan Lido and that is going to be another big test for us and anytime you have to go down to South

Wales it makes it that little bit more difficult for us.

"The lads will be refreshed and with it being on TV they will be looking to put in a good performance."

The Wingmakers were 5-1 winners at the Marstons Stadium last season, but home boss Paul Evans has

strengthened in the summer, his mosr recent signing being experienced central defender Matthew Rees from

Carmarthen"

BALA TOWN www.balatownfc.co.uk On Thursday two of Bala Town’s Academy sides travelled to Ingleborough to face Tranmere Rovers.

The U14´s lost 2-1 with Tranmere´s winner coming in the dying seconds. Harri Hughes scored a cracking goal for

the Lakesiders. A great performance by all of the lads. They now face West Bromwich Albion on Wednesday, 4th

September.

The U16´s lost 9-2 and face Vauxhall Motors on Sunday.

BANGOR CITY www.bangorcityfc.com Pentraeth Kia are the new shirt sponsors of

match versus Rhyl last Monday.

Pentraeth Automotive and Pentraeth Kia for their

support."

City merchandise from Macron - from the club’s

CARMARTHEN TOWN www.carmarthentownafc.com Carmarthen Town manager Mark Aizlewood was "highly delighted" following his side's comprehensive win over

Port Talbot Town at Richmond Park.

"I thought the players were first-class," he said after the game. "I am highly delighted by their performance and

they more than matched Port Talbot. "Liam Thomas was outstanding and his two goals certainly showed that his

sparkle has returned. He slightly lost his way at the end of last season but is now back better than ever."

"On the down side we did concede a pretty poor goal but overall we are strong in defence. It helps a lot when your

defenders have faith in your goalkeeper and Steve Cann inspires confidence."

Page 6: Welsh Premier Times 2013/14 - Welsh Premier League Welsh

"I am very pleased with the way the players have applied themselves. We have used most of the squad in the three

games we have played. But I must add that with the type of game I want them to play then it will be a fourteen-

man team for every match. We have a very strong bench this year and, hopefully, it augers well for the future."

With this in mind Aizlewood has sanctioned two of his younger players as loan signings in order for them to gain

more experience. Forward Sam Wilson has gone on loan to Ammanford with defender Iestyn Evans going to

Llanelli Town.

Aizlewood also paid tribute to the club's stalwarts who spent large parts of the summer revamping the ground.

"With Richmond Park in its current state I am convinced that we now have the best facilities in the Welsh Premier

League. We have a new pitch instead of the old uneven one of the past and changing rooms which will be the

envy of many."

Many of Aizlewood's views were endorsed by club captain Carl Evans. "The whole ground is like new," he said.

"It makes the team feel good and their performance in this match was outstanding. We continued on from our

terrific win at Newtown and are now laying the foundations for the future."

Many at the game considered Evans' performance to have been superb. He was a colossus in defence and was

slightly embarrassed to receive praise from spectators. "I had a bad injury last year which, in reality, ruined my

season. But it's now good to be back and starting in every game. I'm feeling good in myself and that is a great

feeling.".

gap CONNAH’S QUAY www.the-nomads.co.uk

NEWTOWN AFC www.newtownafc.co.uk Newtown manager Bernie McNally was less than impressed with his side's display yesterday as they fell 4-0

behind within half an hour to Camarthen Town.

"When you give away three easy goals I don't care who you are you've got a mountain to climb," said McNally.

He added, "I have looked a Sgorio and I knew we had a left sided problem, but we have been let so wide open for

the first three goals. And like you saw Saturday we pride ourselves on our defence. "But we committed suicide,

we were all over the shop. Two minutes in we went behind, so I though, OK, we regroup and go again. But then

on 11 and 30 minutes were did the same thing, and then it was all over," added the frustrated Robins boss.

Ten minutes before the break McNally changed it, going 3-5-2 and bringing on Iain Edmunds, a move that the

manager says was made with the attitude of 'we have nothing to lose.' I had to change something, because we had

lost 3 points and 4 goals so we might as well go for it. And the second half we tightened up, didn't concede, which

you could say is a plus point."

The former West Brom man added, "But we have to learn quick and do our jobs as a team. You don't want to be

doing someone else's job, you want to be doing your own, and at times we didn't do that which left me very

disappointed."

The games come thick and fast with a game away at Rhyl on Friday night, but Bernie believes a factor in the

defeat could of been having two games in three days.

"I think two games in three days was too much for us. Saturday we were buzzing and there was a good

atmosphere after the game but yesterday we had lost our sparkle - and Carmarthen brought fresh legs in which

made a difference." Bernie added, "But in the end we let three easy goals go and you can't do that. We need to do

it right, but two players went utterly to sleep and I have spoken to them.

McNally was overjoyed with the performance at Rhyl where they gained a 1-0 win thanks to Luke Boundford.

PORT TALBOT TOWN www.porttalbottown.co.uk HEAD of development Mark Pike says that he has been pleased with the desire of his Under-19 squad as they

continue to prepare for their new season.

The youngsters have two friendlies remaining before facing a hectic start to the new campaign.

Pike’s side start at home on Sunday 8th September against Cambrian & Clydach, with a local derby against Afan

Lido three days later, and then face league newcomers AFC Llwydcoed on the 15th.

“The matches so far have all been about game time and lads are working so hard to make the youth squad,” said

Pike. “There is quality all around the park so the decision making process becomes very difficult.

“Many of the lads come with superb pedigree and professionalism after being released from professional clubs.

“It will be quite difficult in a competitive in the youth league with them being so young and the level of

competitiveness in the games. At the moment we have played two exceptional games and the hunger, desire and

attitude of all the youngsters is second to none.

“Whilst I have not signed anyone at present, this will happen over the coming days and I am sure if I can secure

their signatures we will have a bright young side.”

PRESTATYN TOWN www.ptfconline.co.uk PTFC are currently midway through Project futsal courses at all of the hubs. We are now accepting applications

for our next set of courses, which will begin in September.

The course runs for two days a week over a twelve week period, the main goal behind it is to improve chances of

employment and/or further education. A good number of our previous candidates have gone on to part/full time

employment (or further education) following the completion of the course. Although maybe not as a direct result

of being on the course, we`re confident that in one way or another it helped them take that next step.

The course is quite diverse and provides potential topics of study and awards, such as; Football Leaders Award

Introduction to Futsal Award

Disability Football Course

First Aid for Football Award

Child & Welfare Protection Certificate

Community Sports Leaders Award

Literacy & Numeracy Awards

ECDL (European Computer Driving Licence)

Disclosure & Barring Service Check

Preparation For Work

During the course, you will also take part in some form of voluntary work. Past opportunities have included

leading/coaching at soccer schools, as well as the planning & running of community events organised during your

time on the Project FUTSAL course.

For more information please contact Tony Maguire or James Perkins.

Rhyl FC www.rhylfc.co.uk From Page 1 "This is a community hub and Tracey typifies what we believe as a club and as a member of the community.

"Her hard work and dedication, and that of her staff and volunteers, is quite rightly being showcased and it's

another reason for us to be proud of our club and our town."

Tracey revealed she didn't know they had been nominated for the award until she received confirmation from

McDonald's and the FAW Trust.

"I still don't know who it was who nominated us," she confided. "We go down to Cardiff for the award ceremony

on 10 September, before the Wales v Croatia match. It's going to be really great and we're all very proud."

The Strikers programme developed by Tracey and the team has been exported to Cardiff City and plans are afoot

to spread the idea across Wales and then Europe. In the last six months 75% of those on Strikers have gained

supported or part-time employment, a magnificent ratio by any standards.

As well as superb links with Liverpool FC and other clubs across the north west, the club works with FC Malmo

in Sweden and Valerenga in Norway under the Leonardo Programme.

The courses on offer at the club have varied from healthy cooking and eating programmes, budgeting advice,

coaching badges, bacis skills and even an over-50's SIA security qualification.

A number of exciting ventures are planned for the future, so watch this space. Everyone connected with Rhyl

Football Club would like to wish Tracey and the team well for their big presentation in September and we are all

justifiably proud of the achievement. No news

THE LAST WORD from Gwyn Derfel

Three games down and two clubs still have a 100% record. Congratulations to both Prestatyn and Airbus

UK who are separated by a solitary goal at the top of the Corbett Sports Welsh Premier League. Both

clubs seem to have gained great confidence from their European adventures and have begun their

domestic campaigns excellently. I believe that the fact that only two teams have managed to win their

opening three matches suggests that our League will be hugely competitive this season and that the

standard of play will continue will improve.

Before our fourth round of League matches the Word Cup makes a welcome midweek return. Best

wishes to all participating teams from the Corbett Sports WPL, the Welsh League and the Huws Gray.

As well as the return of the Word Cup, the U19’s League was up and running again on Sunday with the

number of participating teams having increased to 11. I strongly believe that this platform is vital to

develop local talent for our WPL clubs and also think that fans feel a closer affinity towards their clubs

if a number of local lads represent their local sides.

This coming weekend the Welsh Premier Women’s League returns slightly later than usual due to the

UEFA U19’s Championships held in West Wales. Having attended both matches in Haverfordwest

where crowds of over 400 and 1100 were in attendance, I really hope that the tournament proves to be a

shot in the arm for the Women’s game in Wales. I also believe that our WPL clubs could possibly learn

a thing or two about marketing matches from the small but efficient Haverfordwest committee. I hope

that you all have a good week. .

Y GAIR OLAF gan Gwyn Derfel

Tair gêm yr un wedi eu chwarae – a dim ond dau glwb sy’n parhau gyda record 100%. Llongyfarchiadau

i Airbus a Phrestatyn sy’n amlwg wedi elwa o’u profiadau cyntaf yn Ewrop dros yr haf. ‘Rwy’n credu

bod y ffaith mai dim ond dau dîm sydd wedi ennill eu trindod cyntaf o gemau yn awgrymu bod Uwch

Gynghrair Cymru-Corbett Sports yn mynd i fod yn hynod gystadleuol a difyr y tymor yma a bod safon

ein Cynghrair yn mynd i barhau i wella.

Cyn ein gemau Cynghrair nesaf, mae Cwpan Word yn dychwelyd ganol wythnos. Pob dymuniad da i’r

holl glybiau o’r Uwch Gynghrair yn ogystal ậ’r wyth clwb o Gynghrair Cymru a’r Huws Gray wrth

gwrs.

Dychwelodd y cynghrair dan 19 dros y Sul gydag 11 o dîmau’n cystadlu’r tymor yma. ‘Rwy’n gweld

gwerth mawr i’r gystadleuaeth hon fel modd i ddatblygu chwaraewyr lleol dawnus ar gyfer ein Huwch

Gynghrair. ‘Rwyf hefyd yn meddwl y byddai cefnogwyr yn teimlo’n agosach at eu clybiau pe byddai

ychydig mwy o hogiau lleol yn cynrychioli’r tîm lleol.

Ddydd Sul bydd Uwch Gynghrair Merched Cymru yn dychwelyd – ychydig yn hwyrach na’r arfer o

ganlyniad i Bencampwriaeth dan 19eg UEFA yng Ngorllewin Cymru. ‘Roeddwn yn ffodus i fod yn

bresennol yn y ddwy gêm gynhaliwyd yn Hwlffordd lle cafwyd torfeydd o dros 400 a 1100.Gobeithio

wir y bydd cynnal y Bencampwriaeth yn rhoi hwb gwirioneddol i gêm y merched yn ein gwlad. ‘Rwyf

hefyd yn gobeithio y gall ein clybiau yn Uwch Gynghrair Corbett Sports ddysgu ambell beth gan

bwyllgor bychan ond gweithgar Hwlffordd am sut i farchnata gemau yn eu gwahanol ardaloedd.

Gobeithio y cewch chi gyd wythnos dda. Diolch.
