>> this fall & winter embrace your inner glamour & put your own spin on the vintage classic era.
*
there is a certain element of romance & glamour to new york state’s fall & winter seasons, something that i believe to be less evident during the year’s warmer months. the lively days of spring & summer—full of garden parties, picnics & strolls along the beach—fade away, replaced by a more quiet allure. we watch the swirling leaves of autumn & wait for the first magical snowfall.

sunshine.
as the weather turns, fur stoles and silk scarves re-emerge from closets and dresser drawers, evoking the accessories worn by the silver screen sirens of yesteryear. ruffles and lace adorn jackets and sweaters—impractical, pretty, and utterly sweet. wool coats and suede gloves prove that classic is forever. the brilliant colors of autumn set the tone for monochromatic shades, embellished with sumptuous splashes of color, and winter’s blanket of white acts as a veritable blank canvas for playful, animated hues. “cold spell ,” page [73] our special gown and design feature, tells a similar story, of chilly winter winds, warmed up with hints of color and old hollywood glamour brought to the forests of new york state. long winters are an invitation to play with the accessories of the season—scarves, hats, and mittens can be adorned with lace, ruffles, tulle, or whatever you fancy. flourishing imaginations bring about tables adorned with wool scarves page [75] or hand-knit hats embellished with crocheted flowers page [99].
here @ wellwed, we have a thing for diy projects. re-purpose, restyle and reuse is a motto we encourage—and a credo we ourselves wear proudly. the slow pace and organic purity of wintertime offer the perfect opportunity to take on fun diy projects and paint unique vintage treasures in a new light. dotted throughout “color palette” pages [103 - 140] you’ll find homespun diy creations you can use to put your own spin on your celebration and plan your wedding from the heart. ideas and inspiration abound in “style file” pages [145 - 181] where we’ve collected some of the best in weddings from seasons past.
as the temperature drops this season, the night air becomes rich with the glitter of falling snow, and snowmen dot the yards of neighbors, we invite fall and winter couples to embrace a sense of vintage glamour that has withstood the test of time, romantic, all encompassing and grand—much like true love.pages

Alisha Clark and Luke Walker can truly say they’re married to their work. After meeting at a photography conference in Los Angeles, they soon found themselves sharing photo shoots and business tips, despite living 1,000 miles apart. A diamond ring brought the two together, ending a long-distance relationship and creating a new life. They began a third company together—in addition to their existing photography businesses —after seeing the need for modern wedding cinematography in upstate New York. However, it wasn’t until after their vows that they decided to merge their passions into one business, Clark + Walker Studio.

Today, in addition to stunning photography, Clark + Walker Studio has set the standard for the region’s modern wedding cinematography —shorter, more concise wedding films, com-plete with cinematic editing. Their motivation was the realization that many videographers weren’t adapting to the photojournalistic style so many brides sought.
Whether it’s photography or cinematography, every product of Clark + Walker Studio is rich with inspiration and talent—not to mention the love that led to the business’ very creation.

a natural setting: Nestled in the gorgeous Adirondacks on a wooded point overlooking sparkling waters, the Lodge on Echo Lake is a rare find. Built in 2001 on the grounds of Camp Echo, The Lodge’s gorgeous natural surroundings, coupled with its fabulous wedding amenities, make it an ideal location for destination weddings. Its charming location on a century-old, 135-acre summer camp gives the property a rustic-chic, small-town allure—making it the perfect setting for a New York bride.
“i-Do” options: The Lodge has unbeatable ceremony sites, many of which include lake views. Four lakefront areas are available, including a sandy beach, a gorgeously wooded pine location, a grassy field, and a beautiful deck. Those tying the knot during the colder months or on a rainy day have the option of saying their vows indoors, in front of floor-to-ceil-ing windows overlooking the water and a beautiful backdrop of wooded pines. Receptions typically take place in the property’s magnificent hall—another room that boasts fabulous lake views.
accommoDations: Private lodging includes twelve single and double bedroom cabins, as well as one sumptuous three-bedroom house. The Lodge even provides complimentary accommodations for the newlyweds on the evening of their wedding.

This pre-marriage consultation with your future in-laws was the de rigueur first step of the marriage process in the days when the focus of a marriage had more to do with property than love. While today’s woman makes her own decisions about marriage, it is stil l a courtesy for the prospective groom to talk to both of her parents about his intent to marry.
number tWO Your DaugHter's HanD:
Traditionally, “something old” represents the bride’s family history; “something new” shows optimism for her new life; “something bor-rowed” represents good karma from a happily married family member; and “something blue” recalls the pre-Victorian fashion for blue as the preferred dress color, symbolizing purity. As for the sixpence, which symbolizes prosperity and good fortune, it was decimalized in 1970. Replicas can be found for sale on the internet, but given inflation you might consider a good old American quarter instead.
sometHing olD/sometHing new:
Christian custom decreed that a groom not see his bride until she walked down the aisle. In Jewish tradition, a groom places his bride’s veil over her face before the ceremony—a reference to the story of Jacob, who mistakenly married the veiled Leah instead of her sister Rachel. Today, many couples arrange a photo-op before the ceremony to capture that “first look” moment when the groom sees his beautiful bride for the first time.
number thRee tHe First look:
number four
This tradition harkens back to the day when wedding guests would tear off pieces of a bride’s clothing as a souvenir. Though it’s been reduced to an ornamental garter in these modern times, the tradition of a groom removing his bride’s garter and tossing it to the singleton males is losing its appeal. If it’s on your wedding program, keep it in good taste.
number five garter toss:
For years, showering the couple with rice was a symbol of good luck, but it turns out that rice is harmful to birds. A switch to birdseed had groundskeepers up in arms dealing with unwanted weeds in f lower beds, and rose petals quickly become slip-pery and are hard to clean up. Today, clever brides arrange for streamers, f lags, or bub-bles and wands as cheering alternatives that don’t harm or create a mess.
tHrowing rice:
The girl who catches the bouquet is destined to marry next, which can have more women running away than hoping to catch it. Still, this remains a “must do” for most brides. Nowadays, instead of tossing the whole bouquet, a mini or breakaway “tossing bouquet” is a clever substitute. Alternatively, leaving the whole “next to be married” scenario behind, the bride may present her bouquet to her mother, sister, or maid of honor.
number six BouQuet toss:
whatever traditions you include—be sure each one means something to you & you’re not just fulfilling them for tradition’s sake.- anna post

With a vintage-chic
vision in mind, the
couple integrated
burlap, tWine, and
lace elements into
the décor.
When Andrea first moved to New York City shortly after college, she
arrived with only an overstuffed suitcase and nothing else. Little did
she know she was about to meet the love of her life.
Andrea applied for waitress positions all over Manhattan, and it
wasn’t long before she landed a job at a restaurant called Mickey
Mantel’s. She settled into her new home, working and spending time
with friends. After about four months at the restaurant, the manager
announced that the place had been purchased by a private owner —
a chef and Culinary Institute of America graduate who would really
help make the place shine. That’s when she met Chris.
As anyone who has ever worked in the restaurant business knows,
staff members often end up spending lots of time together on busy
days. Chris and Andrea quickly became good friends, often going
out with the rest of the crew after closing. It was clear that they had
feelings for one another, but both were too shy to make a move.
Finally, during an evening out, Andrea lost her wallet and tracked
down Chris’ phone number the next day to see if he knew where she
had left it. Chris couldn’t help her with the wallet, but he did take
the opportunity to save her number, and called her back to ask her to
dinner that evening. “From that day forward, I saw Chris every day,
making the commute directly crosstown from my apartment on the
East Side to his on the West Side,” says Andrea.
For their four-year anniversary, Chris surprised Andrea with a trip
to the Dominican Republic. One evening, he told her he had made
reservations at a hotel restaurant for dinner. She was surprised when,
on their way to the lobby, he led her instead to the beach, where a
little boat awaited them. After a short ride on the boat, the couple
boarded a luxurious yacht for a sunset cruise before being dropped
back off at the beach. “There were candles in the sand that formed
a path to a table, where plates and champagne were set up,” says
Andrea. Andrea was excited for a romantic meal, but it wasn’t long
before Chris dropped to one knee, a gorgeous ring in hand. “Of
course, I said yes. I was so excited that I still, to this day, have no idea
what we had for dinner,” says Andrea. The date was August 14, 2009,
exactly four years since their first date.
Andrea and Chris love their home in the city but were eager to plan
a wedding in a more relaxed setting. Andrea grew up in Upstate
New York and for her, a city wedding wasn’t an option. “I knew
immediately I wanted to get married back home, away from the noisy

stacy’s process stacy draws motivation from her favorite moment of the floral design process—when the bride first lays eyes on her bouquet. “that reaction & feeling are like no other. we have spent months working together & preparing & the moment that occurs is amazing,” she says. for stacy, fashioning extraordinary art is all in a day’s work.

during her senior year of high school, stacy discovered her passion for floral design. at her first job at a local landscape center, she quickly realized just how interested she was in the business. stacy’s devotion to floral design hasn’t wavered a bit since her teens—after earning a degree in floriculture merchandising & immersing herself in the roch-ester floral industry, she founded stacy k floral weddings & events six years ago & opened the stacy k floral studio last summer.
larissa was particularly interested in juxtaposing traditional fall colors—orange, chocolate & cream—with a bold tiffany blue. stacy worked with larissa to incorporate blue accents into the wedding in subtle, elegant ways.

*stacy was faced with an unusual color palette & the couple’s desire for lots of seasonal details. to achieve the desired effect, stacy & larissa painted pumpkins gold & scattered them throughout the venue, which added a definite hint of diy charm, as well as an autumnal atmosphere. as a finishing touch, stacy bathed the room in a glow of rosy candlelight.

Allison & Collin

tHe proposal. Under the guise of a birthday getaway, Collin planned a hike up Cascade Mountain in Lake Placid. Thirty-three years ago, Allison’s parents were married on the summit of this mountain, and Allison’s middle name—Cascade—comes from the peak. On September 6, nearly 20 years after Allison’s first summit of the mountain, Allison and Collin set off for the top. As they neared the overlook, Allison wondered why Collin was heading in the direction of someone else’s picnic basket. It wasn’t until he turned around and dropped to one knee with a little black box that she began to understand. Allison’s exclamation “Yes!” echoed against the gorgeous mountain backdrop.
tHe Details. The bride and groom were eager to incorporate many personal elements into their wedding—beginning with Allison’s engagement ring, which Collin had custom-made with a diamond salvaged from Allison’s paternal grandmother’s wedding ring. During the ceremony, the couple used Allison’s grandfather’s Bible from World War II, and Allison wore an heirloom diamond ring that had been passed down through four generations of her family. “Both of the rings I wore that day were very special, since they symbolized that both of my grandmothers were with me,” says Allison.
tHe DaY & Design. Looking back, Allison and Collin both agree that the overall joy and intimate atmosphere wouldn’t have been possible without the addition of thoughtful, homespun touches. “It was really important for us that guests were able to just relax, have fun, and make themselves at home,” says Allison, who created a cozy lounge in which couples could relax, as well as serving up pies, tarts, cookies, and s’mores in lieu of a traditional wedding cake. Allison and Collin even took advantage of Allison’s uncle’s 1931 wooden Criscraft boat for unique photos. “To end the fabulous night, we set off Japanese sky lanterns from the top of the mountain. It was beautiful, peaceful, and so romantic,” says Allison.
BeFore tHe ring. It was after just a single date that Allison Kozel found herself seriously considering the possibility that Collin Badger was the man she was meant to spend the rest of her life with. The two had met by chance during their daily Starbucks run and bonded instantly over shared acquaintances and interests, talking until the coffee bar closed around them. Allison was thrilled when Collin called later that day, asking for a second date. “Collin ended the call with, ‘And next time I'll bring my scissors…’ and I giggled before realizing that I didn’t know what he was talking about,” says Allison, who hung up the phone before catching a glimpse of herself in a mirror and realizing there was a large white price tag still attached to her shirt. Collin’s jovial and teasing attitude towards the situation sealed the deal for Allison. She had to see this man again.

Officially, Shelly Moerschell and Gavin Thomas’ love story began when they were just 10 years old: Shelly, an avid soccer player, attended soccer camp that summer, and it just so happened that Gavin’s father was her coach. However, it wasn’t until five years later that Shelly officially met Gavin himself, and it was only after they began to date that she made the connection. Their high school romance was a fleeting one, but the two remained close friends—and rivals on the soccer field—all the way through college. Finally, a few years after graduating, while Shelly was living in Boston and Gavin in Rochester, they began to date once again. This time, it stuck. After ten months of a long-distance relationship, Shelly joined Gavin in Rochester.

tHe proposal. It was during a vacation in Maine with Gavin’s family in 2009 that Gavin asked Shelly to be his wife. One morning, while the two were out for a run together, Gavin pointed out a spot where he used to catch crabs during low tide. Gavin walked a little distance away, shouting back to Shelly that he had caught one. “I raced over to where he was and asked him where it was—I didn't see anything. He paused and said, ‘It's right...it's right...there’,” says Shelly. She leaned in for a closer look just as Gavin revealed the ring that had been concealed in his hand. “He told me he knew he wanted to spend the rest of his life with me the moment he met me,” says Shelly.
tHe DaY & Design. Shelly began by selecting a color palette of romantic, neutral tones before getting to work on an array of diy projects. “The ceremony programs were beautifully crafted to look like vintage books, with mismatched, vintage scrapbook paper, burlap, and bright red stitching,” says Shelly, who took charge of cutting the burlap and paper for the books while her mother sewed all 120 of them by hand. Shelly and Gavin used vintage post cards in lieu of table numbers to signify the places they had traveled together. At each guest’s place sat homemade jars of syrup, procured from the towns the couple had grown up in. Instead of a guest book, Shelly and Gavin hung a canvas with a picture of a tree and asked guests to use leaf stamps and sign their names next to their imprints. “We wanted something we could display at all times instead of something that would sit on a book shelf,” says Shelly.

before the ring. Despite being both teammates and classmates in high school, Meaghan Carmody and Jeff Meeker’s romantic relationship didn’t bloom until Meaghan transferred to Jeff’s college years later. The pair rekindled their friendship over a shared love of running and teamed up to run the area’s wooded trails. It wasn’t long before Meaghan and Jeff realized that they were traveling together down a new path—towards love. Meaghan and Jeff bonded further over the long hours they spent as students in New York University at Buffalo’s library. Over the course of their strenuous medical programs, the couple learned to support each other through challenges and to push each other to do their best work. When Meaghan graduated, she headed to Baltimore, Maryland, to begin graduate-level nursing courses; Jeff remained in Buffalo to finish his pharmacy degree. But once Jeff graduated, it took only one afternoon together for Meaghan and Jeff to know they weren’t meant to be apart.
meaghan + jeff
the proposal. Like many great proposals, Jeff’s was a total surprise. Meaghan was in the midst of unpacking box after box of their belongings after a move, when she stumbled upon a framed picture that she had given Jeff shortly after they first started dating. “Seeing the photograph reminded me of all we had been through and all that we shared,” recalls Meaghan. At that moment, while Meaghan was lost in thought, Jeff dropped to one knee and professed his love. Though there were plenty of clues to his intent in his speech and actions, it wasn’t until he pulled out the little black box that Meaghan realized he was proposing.
the details. Meaghan and Jeff were passionate about sharing the place they loved with family and friends, but it was also important to them to recognize their loved ones who were unable to attend the celebration. “I wanted to honor my late maternal grandmother by featuring her rosary in my bridal bouquet,” says Meaghan. A single candle on the altar was lighted to honor other departed family members. As a nod to Jeff’s Irish heritage, a bagpiper played as they exited St. Patrick’s Church.
the day & design. Meaghan and Jeff wanted to highlight the natural loveliness of autumn hues without conforming to a standard palette of oranges and reds. Instead, they selected black toile and checkerboard prints, accented with ivory and tangerine, to create their vision of an elegant yet whimsical country wedding. White pumpkins and foliage brought seasonal flair to the decor. Playful details helped Meaghan and Jeff celebrate the autumn splendor of their wedding location. Immediately after the ceremony, guests gathered around a waiting apothecary station filled with hot cider, donuts, and candy apples, while Meaghan and Jeff snuck away for pictures at a local winery. At the reception, oak harvest tables adorned with flower arrangements, candles, and grapevines greeted guests. A whimsical “I Spy” game and photo booth set a fun tone for the festivities.

The coupLe chose To reTurn To Their rooTs for Their i-do’s: “rochesTer was who we were aT hearT & iT gave us an appreciaTion for The smaLL Town way of Life,” says The bride.
Ashley Roncone and Gilchrist Durfee spent most of their junior year of high school intentionally taking the long route to class in order to pass each other in the hallway. Because they both assumed that was the other's normal route, neither realized that the other was doing the same thing until many years later. In typical high-school fashion, the two never said a word to one another until Ashley had her best friend call Gil and ask him to take Ashley to the junior prom. However, it wasn’t until after they graduated that the couple truly began dating. After graduation, Ashley attended college in Buffalo, and Gil enrolled in the United States Marine Corps. For years, the pair exchanged letters, never anything more than friends. Finally, two years into Gil's service, everything fell into place, and they officially became a couple. Ashley says it’s safe to say that they both fell in love during her first year of college, evidenced by the many times Gil would drive 13 hours straight from North Carolina to Buffalo just so they could spend the weekend together. On one particular occasion, Gil showed up to visit Ashley by surprise. “We were talking on the phone when he asked me where exactly my dorm room was. I thought it was a strange question, but I told him,” says Ashley. A moment later, to her shock, Gil was knocking on her door. “Right then and there, I knew he was a keeper,” she says.

the proposal. At the end of August 2007, Ashley and Gil were preparing for Gil’s last tour in Iraq. Gil planned a day full of things the couple loved to do—an intimate lunch, miniature golf, and spa treatments. It wasn’t until that evening that Ashley discovered their hotel room had been decorated with flowers and candles. Gil had even created a board showcasing all of the letters they wrote to each other and pictures they had taken together over the years. “As I was looking at everything, I started to get a clue of what was going on,” says Ashley. “I turned around, and Gil was on his knee asking me to marry him.”
the day & design. The pair chose a color palette featuring yellow, graphite, white, and ivory to create a bright, fun, and elegant feel. “I love that yellow is so bright and cheerful, and the graphite just really held everything together,” says Ashley, who also designed and printed all of their wedding stationery including the invitations, RSVPs, place cards, and menus herself. In remembrance of her late uncle and grandfather, Ashley incorporated her uncle's rosary into her bouquet and carried her grandfather’s handkerchief, embroidered with his and her initials and the wedding date. The couple also decided to break tradition by meeting for the first time before their ceremony. They wanted to make sure they had enough time to take the perfect photographs without the pressure to get to the reception. “It was actually pretty romantic,” says Ashley. “We met out on my parent’s farm where it was incredibly peaceful, and we had a chance to calm our nerves.”

the proposal. It was on a trip to visit Josh’s parents in Western New York that Josh decided it was time to take the next step. A few hours into the drive, he suddenly pulled over next to a scenic overlook in the Delaware Water Gap. Michelle thought it was somewhat odd but went along with it. She was shocked when Josh got down on one knee and asked her to be his wife. Even better, he surprised Michelle by inviting her family across the country to his parents’ house to celebrate that weekend. When the newly engaged couple arrived in Western New York, they spent the rest of the weekend with family, reveling in newly-engaged bliss.
the details. When it came to planning their nuptials, Michelle and Josh knew immediately that they wanted to hold their celebration outside of the city. “We chose to get married upstate in order to enjoy a weekend with our family and friends in the beautiful countryside, away from the hustle and bustle of daily life,” says Michelle. “Since the majority of our guests came from New York City, we looked for a destination that would be easily accessible but would provide a welcome escape from city living.”
the day & design. Their wedding was rich in shades of blue, teal, and green, with hints of lavender and pink thrown into the mix. The bride and groom incorporated many antique details to give the wedding a timeless quality with a fresh, modern twist. Old leather suitcases and an antique wagon acted as displays for place cards whimsically created from old-fashioned tags, while vintage typewriters invited guests to type well wishes to the newlyweds. The reception was held in a rustic barn, complete with long farm tables bedecked with flowers in vintage glass vessels and antique containers. The Hill’s majestic setting was the perfect place for Michelle and Josh to say their “I Dos,” with horses dotting the landscape. As the night grew darker, old-fashioned lanterns lit each path and walkway.
before the ring. Michelle Krohn-Friedson and Josh Geller are a matchmaking success story. However, in their case, it wasn’t a mutual friend or family member who brought them together—it was Josh’s dog, Count Bassie. Michelle and Josh were neighbors in Brooklyn. They often ran into each other when Josh was out walking his furry friend, and before they knew it, they were friends. It wasn’t long before their friendship blossomed into something more.

having faLLen in Love on The shores of branTingham Lake, courTney & kevin agreed ThaT upsTaTe new york was The perfecT LocaTion for Their desTinaTion wedding.
It’s safe to say that Courtney Gray and Kevin Cotrupe will never forget the day they became engaged. The couple had taken time off from their busy work schedules to spend a week in Brantingham, New York, relaxing with family and celebrating Kevin’s impending 40th birthday. For the event, Courtney had planned a day of surprises and festivities, unaware that Kevin had an idea of his own. On August sixth, Kevin’s birthday, the couple woke to a beautiful day and decided to take advantage of the cool morning by going for a long walk, ending at the boathouse by the lake.

the proposal. During that relaxing weekend away, Kevin began discussing what he wanted most for his birthday—Courtney. The moment he reached into his pocket and pulled out a diamond engagement ring, “I was overwhelmed and so happy. I cried, laughed, and said yes,” remembers Courtney. The couple took a few minutes by themselves to celebrate their new engagement before heading back to the house to share the exciting news with Courtney’s family.
the day & design. For Courtney and Kevin, everything about the day was a celebration of the place. The pair encouraged guests to become familiar with their surroundings from the first announcement card, sending hand-illustrated maps and a history of Brantingham. As a gift to the guests, along with the invitations, Courtney and Kevin included vintage prints and watercolors from around the Adirondacks. When guests arrived for the weekend-long festivities, they received hand-written welcome notes on antique Brantingham postcards from the bride and groom. To carry the theme through to the reception, each table contained a history of Brantingham on the back of the typed menus. The couple even kept their color palette simple—whites and naturals accented by cool blues and greens—in order to complement the beauty of the mountains and the lake. “It was very important to us that our guests feel the magic of the region,” Courtney says.

The coupLe decided on a winTerTime wedding —“upsTaTe new york can be beauTifuL year round, buT hosTing a chrisTmasTime wedding made iT especiaLLy warm & inviTing,” says johanna.
the proposal. Near the beginning of their relationship, David took it upon himself to cook a romantic Valentine’s Day dinner for Johanna. She had just moved in, and her kitchen was still lacking in many necessities. “He brought over all of the supplies he needed to cook with—even pots, pans, and knives,” explains Johanna. Three years later, David recreated this romantic dinner for Johanna, except this time he ended it with getting down on one knee. “And all he needed to bring was the food—and the ring of course,” says Johanna.
the design. In keeping with a festive Christmastime feel, the couple embraced a “home for the holidays” theme for their big day. Instead of dictating a specific color palette, Johanna decided to embrace the “seasonal ambiance.” “It would have been a crime to fight the beautiful and traditional evergreens, golds, and silver tones,” she says. The couple highlighted the holiday by creating centerpieces featuring holly, button mums, and cedar. The room’s chandeliers were hung with oversized gold and silver ornaments, and Johanna and David even carried the season into the ceremony, dressing the bridesmaids in mink stoles over their velvet dresses and the groomsmen in green and red cummerbunds and bowties from Ireland.
the details. The bride and groom skipped many mainstream traditions in favor of more personal touches. In lieu of a wedding cake, guests enjoyed slices of cheesecake and other decadent desserts. During the reception, the band focused on playing Christmas music instead of more traditional love songs. “The dance floor was packed before the first course was even served,” says Johanna. The one tradition that was important for both the bride and groom to honor was not seeing each other until the moment Johanna stepped onto the aisle. “That way, we had the whole day to build up the excitement,” Johanna says.

before the ring. When Johanna Brodbeck recounts the beginning of her love story with husband David Clarke, she often says simply, “We each dated the first person we met in Manhattan.” Truer words were never spoken—in a city bustling with millions of people, the couple’s serendipitous meeting could be explained by nothing other than fate.

the proposal. It was during Sandra’s first year of residency that the couple planned a vacation to Argentina, looking forward to a relaxing getaway. At the beginning of their trip, they stayed in the Patagonia region, on the shores of a gorgeous lake surrounded by mountains. One afternoon, Sandra and Kashie went on a short hike before dinner. Soon, they found themselves standing on a rocky lakefront, overlooking a stunning mountain view. Kashie, who had concealed the ring in a fanny pack he wore on the pretense of keeping his passport safe, knew it was the perfect time. Getting on one knee, he delivered a beautiful and long proposal.
the design. Drawing inspiration from their wedding destination, Sandra and Kashie selected a color palette that reflected the beautiful colors of Upstate New York in the fall—warm oranges, reds, and yellows, with pops of pinks and plums. Seasonal flowers, including zinnias and dahlias, incorporated the vibrant hues, and the bridesmaids wore elegant brown frocks of their choosing. Since the bride and groom are lovers of all things vintage, they used antique lighting elements, giving the reception an enchanted glow. In lieu of traditional place cards, the couple took Polaroid photos of favorite Lake George spots and wrote guests’ names and table numbers along the bottom.
the day. To honor Kashie’s family’s Indian heritage, the couple planned an abbreviated Hindu wedding ceremony two days before the wedding and included a sitarist and table drum player at their ceremony. They also incorporated marigolds, traditional wedding flowers in Hindu tradition, heavily into the day’s floral arrangements.

before the ring. Both medical students at New York University, the pair lived on the same floor of a residence hall and often bumped into each other in the hallways. Unbeknownst to Sandra, Kashie found himself planning his study breaks accordingly, in hopes of seeing Sandra en route to the co-ed bathrooms. One evening, Sandra bravely told Kashie that she called him her “fourth-floor boyfriend” behind his back. It was the definitive first moment of their relationship, and soon, they were a couple.
