THE ARC AND THE PUBLIC MEETINGS

• The ARC considers accommodation options for the future of the schools in the review

• The ARC holds a minimum of 4 Public Meetings to obtain input from parents, students and the local community

• The ARC makes recommendations to the Director and the Board of trustees about the future of the schools in the review

• The ARC cannot make recommendations about the future use of a school(s)

• The Trustees make the final decisions about the future of the schools in all ARCs.

FEEDBACK ON QUESTIONS RAISED AT THE LAST PUBLIC MEETING

• Daycares – will they have a place? Will they be moved out if a school’s enrolment needs the space?

• Why does the data for 2009 not show on all of the slides?

• Why is Fairbank Memorial in such good condition when it is the oldest school on the list?

• What impact is there if a student who lives in one school’s area goes to another school for a special program?

• Why were portables placed at West Prep in the past?

School Information Profile

• The School Information Profile is a new tool mandated by the Ministry of Education to ensure the ARC and the public are well informed about the schools named in the review.

• This tool considers the value of the school to students, the school board, the community, and the local economy.

• The profile is completed by school principals and Board staff and is reviewed by the ARC.

• ARC members can request additional information.

What Value Means

• Value to the student Quality of learning environment, student outcomes, range of program offerings

• Value to the communityCommunity use, recreational use, partnerships in other government initiatives

• Value to the school boardRange of program or course offerings, availability of specialized teaching spaces, facility condition, location

• Value to the local economyAttracts or retains families in the community

TDSB’S 8 CORE VALUES

• Core Value #1: Schools offer a full range of programs to help students succeed and meet their special interests. Schools have qualified teachers in the areas that require specialized knowledge, so that students can be prepared for a spectrum of future career options.

• Core Value #4: Schools are organized to minimize the number of times a student must change schools (school transitions).

 • The TDSB's Accommodation Review Criteria: The TDSB’s

vision will guide the ARC’s work and the following criteria are to be referenced during the review process:o Minimal grade transitions: aim for JK – grade 8 schools but where this

configuration is not practical, devise solutions that minimize transitionso School size: aim for 450 to 650 and provide for full implementation of the

Early Learning Program by 2015o Utilization: aim for 80% to 90% utilization rate

Task:

 • Look at each of the accommodation options provided and focus

on what is best for our students. • For each option, determine: 

o What is the best feature for the option? What do you like best about this option?  

o What is the worst feature of the option? What do you dislike about this option? 

o Is there a question(s) that you have or information you need about any aspect of any of the options? 

• Is there any other realistic accommodation option you would like to have considered?
