We invite all worshipers to sign the red Friendship Pad that is at the end of each pew and pass it down your row. Prayer requests may be listed on the yellow pew cards. This is the first part of an effort by the Trustees and the Building Committee to significantly improve the welcoming feel of our Church building in anticipation of our 75th Anniversary. The room now has a cleaner, less cluttered look allowing easier movement. Name tag holders to replace the fishnet are being ordered. More improvements are planned.

We ask that you not donate items during this time. We are continuing to make deliveries from our existing stock throughout this "break" time. If you would like to volunteer to make houseware deliveries, or to assemble starter kits for people newly placed in rental housing, please contact Al Ross (703) 819-0269. We appreciate your support of ALIVE Housewares.

Fairlington UMC is a Reconciling Congregation with open hearts, open minds, and open doors. We proclaim and welcome every person as a beloved child of God regardless of age, race, physical or mental ability, sexual orientation,

gender identity, family structure, faith history, or life experience.

(Hymn 314)

Stop by the ALIVE! garden anytime to pick ripe produce, pull a few weeds, water the plants and be reminded that God's presence is everywhere. The office can lend you a key. There’s a gardener meeting every Tuesday morn-ing between 8:30 and 10:30am and you are invited to join. Contact Anne Wilson [email protected].

All women of the church are invited to discuss The Handmaid’s Tale by Margaret Atwood over a pot luck lunch, Sunday, September 1 at noon. Hosted by Roma Sexson. RSVP to Carol Weldon [email protected] by August 29. And, yes, you can attend even if you haven’t finished the book.

Members and Non-members of Fairlington UMC who have a desire to build a “grandparent” relationship with a student at FUMC. Grandparents are models, mentors and memory-makers! In society today our Grandparents are not always close by, so this is an opportunity to have a unique connection to a student and to share your gifts,

talents, pearls of wisdom and in return gain so much more! Students enter-ing 6th grade will be given the opportunity to connect with a Foster Grand-parent. Christian White will help with making the connections so that we have something in common. If you would like to hear more about the Foster Grandparent program, please join us on September 8 from 5-7pm for an info meeting and dinner. Questions? Contact Vicki Stones, [email protected].

Fairlington United Methodist Women are taking ad-vantage of the back to school sales to collect items for International Academy at TC Williams and the 2020 UMCOR mission. We will be collecting items thru Sep-tember 8. There will be a container outside of the Parlor for you to drop off your donations. For more info on UMCOR see Marcy Lewis, [email protected]. For TC Williams, Kathy Richards, [email protected].

Plus, we resume our many different Sunday School Classes for young adults, single adults, parents, married couples--just about any life stage you might be experiencing. Classes are open for you to join at any time. We also have groups for every age child and teenager. We meet on Sun-day mornings at 9:30am every week. To join a group or for more infor-mation contact Rev. Christian White: (703) 671-8557 x106 or [email protected].

Our Sunday School for children has numerous opportunities available for you to participate. There are lots of different ways and time frames that you can serve. All of them are fun and give you the chance to spend time with all our children.

Weekly volunteer opportunity. Currently we

have 2 slots available- 2nd Grade, and a 4th/5th Grade combined class. No teaching or preparatory work needed. Just show up and love the kids!

These teachers prepare a lesson and pre-

sent it three weeks in a row to a different age group each week. These teachers do not teach every week but sign up for slots that fit their sched-ule. Training is available!

We always need individuals who can chip in when the regular teacher is out. Sometimes these requests are last minute, but often teachers know in advance when they are travelling.

We always need a steady stream of individuals will-

ing to be with our infants and toddlers. We have a paid staff worker present each week, and then a volunteer ready to chip in to help-out. You sign up on dates that work for you! Training and support available! Contact Christian at [email protected] .
