Welcome!
Who is in the room?A unique gathering of players from 22 countries Southern Africa: Angola, Botswana, DRC,
Lesotho, Malawi, Mauritius, Mozambique, Namibia, South Africa, Swaziland, Tanzania, Zambia, Zimbabwe
African countries beyond the region: Egypt, Kenya, Nigeria, Senegal
And from abroad: Canada, Germany, Norway, UK, USA
Where did this start? Budapest 2009: Flavia Pansieri, head of UNV, asks
regions to mark the 10th anniversary of the UN’s International Year of Volunteers in 2001
November 2010: UNV, VOSESA and 20 partners from across southern Africa hold a strategy session to plan the conference
2010/11: 13 funders pledge support; 10 background papers researched; 50 speakers & moderators are secured; 7 site visits planned; 180 registrations
16 Oct 2011: A youth session marks the start of the conference proceedings.

Support from representatives of SADC member states for a UNV resolution on volunteering that will be presented to the UN General Assembly on 5 December 2011
