Nathaniel Hawthorne, the legendary 19th century author of The Scarlett Letter and other internationally famous works, lived here with his mother and two sisters from age nine or 10. Mrs. Hawthorne’s brother built this house in “Raymondtown” around 1913. Hawthorne House hosts a Strawberry Festival in July, BBQ in August, and a Christmas party in Dec. The childhood home of Nat Hawthorne is located just off Rte. 302. Morgan Meadow is open to year-round hunting and offers exceptional opportunities for birding and other outdoor activities. Take Route 85 (Webbs Mills Road), to Egypt Road, then follow Egypt Road 2.2 miles to the small off-road parking area on the left (near the Raymond-Gray town line). The Raymond-Casco Historical Society is a charitable, educational and fascinating museum on Route 302 near the Raymond-Casco line. Its mission is to preserve the many found and donated objects and materials, and document their place in local history. The collection is housed in a red- color building with a magnificent mural depicting the historic Raymond steamboat dropping off passengers to be picked up by the Casco stagecoach. The building and standout mural are easily visible from Route 302. For more info about the store and museum: [email protected] Raymond Beach is a 350-foot pristine sandy daytime getaway on Sebago Lake’s Jordan Bay – and it’s free to the public. The sand beach includes a buoy-lined safe swimming area for families. It’s a popular and convenient destination for sun bathers, just a short scenic stroll to Raymond’s business area. The Beach parking area has a shallow water boat launch with 45 double-length parking spaces for vehicles with boat trailers, and 21 spaces for cars. There is a bicycle rack and a port-a-potty. The Beach is patrolled and kept clean daily. A hot dog cart serving a variety of snacks is expected to be on the site during this season. Raymond Beach is located adjacent to Route 302 just past the Route 121 signal light. Tassel Top Park is situated on one of the best beach areas of Sebago Lake. In addition to its 900 feet of well-maintained, pristine sandy beach, the 35 acre park includes a clearly marked nature trail and has signed points of interest - and even benches for meditation and rest. The trail is handicap and stroller accessible. Two beach wheelchairs are available free of charge upon request. Rental cabins, a well-stocked snack shack, and changing rooms are available, as well as port-a-potties. Tassel Top is accessed from Route 302, across from the Raymond Shopping Center. Parking is just past the gatehouse, where a small entrance fee is collected. Tassel Top is one of the best-kept secrets in Southern Maine. Veterans Memorial Park. Designed to honor Maine’s veterans and their families, Veterans Memorial Park is located on a pretty Sebago Lake inlet and small boat harbor. Meticulously maintained by members of the Hawthorne Garden Club, the park offers picnic tables, as well as benches for meditation on the contributions of Maine’s veterans, or to simply enjoy the vista. Raymond Revitalization Committee This Committee was founded in January 2012, in an attempt to direct the economic future of Raymond. The committee focuses on bringing members of the community together with business owners to explore different options as well as find creative and entrepreneurial ideas to help develop Raymond’s business district and promote the area. Raymond Lions Club The Raymond Lions Club, formed in 1995, is an active group of service minded men and women who want to make Raymond a better place to live by serving the community in a variety of ways. Raymond Beautification Committee This committee maintains and enhances the sense of community pride and visual appearance of the Town of Raymond through the use of gardens, landscaping and seasonal decorations. It is a community partnership, which includes volunteerism, town resources and the business community. Raymond Waterways Protection Association RWPA continues to monitor and publish water quality results and trends for all Raymond lakes, has trained technical staff, and maintains a ranger program. The goal is to work with a lake association or committee that represents each lake and helps guide the effort on each lake. Panther Pond Association. “Preserving Panther Pond One Person at a Time” An organization of residents and friends of Panther Pond, dedicated to protecting one of Maine’s finest small lakes. Crescent Lake Watershed Association This association is committed to the protection and enhancement of the water quality of Crescent Lake. Hawthorne Community Association Our mission is to care for the home where Nathaniel Hawthorne lived when he was a young boy. The house has been on the National Register of Historic Places since 1969. The trail is handicapand stroller accessible. Two beach wheelchairs are available free of chargeupon request. Rental cabins, a well-stocked snack shack, and changing roomsare available, as well as port-a-potties. Tassel Top is accessed from Route302, across from the Raymond Shopping Center. Parking is just past thegatehouse, where a small entrance fee is collected. Tassel Top is one of thebest-kept secrets in Southern Maine.

Veterans Memorial Park. Designed to honorMaine’s veterans and their families, VeteransMemorial Park is located on a pretty SebagoLake inlet and small boat harbor. Meticulouslymaintained by members of the HawthorneGarden Club, the park offers picnic tables, aswell as benches for meditation on thecontributions of Maine’s veterans, or to simplyenjoy the vista. Veterans Memorial Park islocated on Route 302 directly across from theGood Life Market (Route 85 junction).

Raymond Revitalization CommitteeThis Committee was founded in January 2012, in an attempt to directthe economic future of Raymond. The committee focuses on bringingmembers of the community together with business owners to exploredifferent options as well as find creative and entrepreneurial ideas tohelp develop Raymond’s business district and promote the area.

Raymond Waterways Protection AssociationRWPA continues to monitor and publish water quality results and trendsfor all Raymond lakes, has trained technical staff, and maintains a rangerprogram. The goal is to work with a lake association or committee thatrepresents each lake and helps guide the effort on each lake.

Panther Pond Association.“Preserving Panther Pond One Person at a Time”An organization of residents and friends of PantherPond, dedicated to protecting one of Maine’s finestsmall lakes.

Crescent Lake Watershed AssociationThis association is committed to the protection andenhancement of the water quality of Crescent Lake.
