School Hours Update Based on the stakeholder feedback from the previous Advisory Council
meeting:
School hours were adjusted in Option #2 starting 5 minutes later
Note that High School buses will drop off at 7:05 am
Continued Compliance with School Hours Non-Negotiable Items
All High School drivers also drive an Elementary Route – Drop Times and Pick-up Times between HS and ES must allow for this
High School end time must be conducive to athletic travel times
Travel times between schools
Time between routes – ensures timely delivery to school and to home
Budget will not allow for two tier system of bus routes (additional drivers and additional buses)
New Proposal Given to Administration within the last several days
Note Pro’s and Con’s on your handout
School Hours Option #1 EliminatedElementary School 8:15 – 3:05
Middle School 7:20 – 2:10
High School 9:10 – 4:20 Middle school students would start too early
Early dismissal times in relation to childcare issues
LOSS OF 3,620 minutes per year at the high school level
Lack of opportunity for breakfast, learning center, etc. before school at NC due to reducing the bus drop off time from 20 minutes to 5 minutes
High school students involved with athletics and other extra-curricular activities will get home from school very late
Late dismissal at high school would prevent some away athletic events

Bus drop at 7:00 am7:20 am – 2:30 pm7 hours 10 min/day
-6 to 11 minutes per day
School Hours Option #2Survey Monkey Feedback ADVANTAGES
All school times are appropriate for grade levels Increase school time for elementary and middle school while keeping the high
school consistent More time for after school activities Similar to current
DISADVANTAGES Too long of a school day for the elementary school, interferes with after school
activities Having school stat times spread out over 2 hours is difficult for working parents High school is too early (sleep benefits in relation to academic performance) High school students driving in early morning rush hour traffic in the dark Less family time due to a longer school day
School Hours Option #3Survey Monkey Feedback ADVANTAGES
All school times are appropriate for grade levels
Early release of high school is a much better option
Gives elementary a longer school day but no dramatic impact on middle and high school
Allows high school student to maintain jobs, sports and other activities
DISADVANTAGES Reducing the high school by twenty minutes is too much
Delayed elementary school start time is an issue for working parents
Concern for middle school after school activities
Early start time for high school & late dismissal time for middle school
Teens having more unsupervised time due to dismissal times
