In mid 15th century, a Muslim colony was founded in the mangrove forest of the Sunderban near the sea coast in Bagerhat district by a saint Ulug Khan Jahan. The mosque is roofed over with 77 , including 7 chauchala or four-sided domes in the middle row. The vast prayer hall is provided with 11 on east and 7 each on of slender stone columns. From these columns spring rows of endless arches, supporting the domes. The arches are six feet in thickness, hare slightly and round wall.

The interior and the exterior of the mosque give a view of rather plain architecture but the of the mosque was beautifully decorated with .
