CAVALIER CENTER FOR FACULTY AND ADVISORS

The Office of the Registrar and the Office of Student Accounts are pleased to present this guidebook to introduce you to the Cavalier Center (Faculty Self-Service System). This guidebook is designed to show you many of the primary options available with the Self-Service System. (Note: As you navigate through the system, you will see many other features not described in this guidebook.) The Cavalier Center is open to all active faculty and advisors. Previous computer experience is not required.

• The Cavalier Center is a totally electronic system; therefore, you must make certain that all processes are finalized before you exit the screens.

The Cavalier Center can be accessed from two locations, either Walsh University’s Main Page or under Academics-Office of the Registrar.

These unsecured options do not require a User ID or PIN.

Your User ID is your SSN and your initial PIN is your DOB. Click login.

After your initial login you will be prompted to create a new PIN that is unique to you. For your security do not share your PIN.

Create a Security Question and Answer that will be easy for you to remember.

After the initial login, you will be prompted to accept the Terms of Usage. By clicking Continue you are agreeing to abide by FERPA.

Adjunct Faculty only will be prompted to enter the student’s PIN to view an Academic Transcript. The PIN must be obtained from the student.

Access ALT PIN, general student information and Unofficial Academic Transcript.

Primary and Secondary Advisees will be displayed.

For advising purposes, Academic Transcripts are easier to access directly from this screen.

Note: This list displays all active students eligible to receive a registration ALT PIN.

Select one class at a time. Click Submit.

Post your Office Hours and Location for students to view your availability.

Class List links you to your class rosters.

Post your Syllabus here and students will be able to view it automatically.

You may copy and paste information from a Word document into the screen.

Post Web Site URL and Dynamic Syllabus for students

to view the most up-to-date information.

Use the drop down box to select a Midterm Grade.

Click submit when finished and then Click

Return to Menu. Use the same procedure to enter Final Grades.

To enter Midterm Grades for another course, return to menu, go to CRN selection, choose another course and proceed to Midterm Grades. Use the same procedure to enter Final Grades.

Select Subject first and then other options. Click Class Search to proceed.

FREQUENTLY ASKED CAV SYSTEM QUESTIONS FOR FACULTY

Q: What is required to enter the unsecured area? A: Nothing. Anyone can enter this area to view the directory, class schedule, and course catalog. Q: What is the User’s ID and PIN? A: The User ID is your social security number or generated identification number. The PIN is initially your birthdate (mmddyy) and then you will be prompted to create a new PIN (must be 6-digits and numeric). Q: Can I see my list of advisees? A: Yes, in the secured area under Faculty and Advisor Menu. Click Student Information Menu, then Advisee Listing. Q: Are students required to see their advisor? A: Yes, for academic advising. Once students are advised, the advisor can give the student their alternate PIN so the student can register on the Cavalier Center. Advisors are encouraged to complete pre-registration forms for advisees and keep a copy for their records. Q: What is the alternate PIN? A: The alternate PIN allows students to access online registration via the Cavalier Center. Alternate PINS are updated each semester and are given out only by the student's assigned advisor. Alternate PINS are located under the Faculty and Advisor Menu. Click Student Information Menu, then Advisee Listing. Q: Can I access my advisee and student unofficial academic transcripts? A: Yes, in the secured area under the Faculty and Advisor Menu. Click Student Information Menu, then Academic Transcript. You may only view and print the unofficial academic transcripts of your advisees and the students registered in your classes. Q: Can I enter my grades on the Self Service System?

A: Yes, all faculty must enter only their Mid-term grades. As soon as mid-term grades are entered, students will be able to view them in the secured area of the Cavalier Center. Final grades will be entered by the Office of the Registrar. Once all grades are submitted and the Office of the Registrar completes the rolling process, final grades will be available on the Cavalier Center. Note: You will be able to view your advisees’ final grades by accessing their transcripts.

Q: Can I see my teaching schedule? A: Yes, in the secured area under Faculty and Advisor Menu. Click on either Faculty Detail Schedule or Week at a Glance. Q: Can I see my class roster? Does it include general information about each student? A: Yes, a class roster can be viewed in the secured area under the Faculty and Advisor Menu, then click Summary Class Roster. The student's general information such as their address and phone number can be viewed here also. Q: Do I need the student’s social security number or generated ID to access their transcripts? A: No, if you are the advisor or faculty of the student, you may access student transcripts by social security number or name search. If you are not, a PIN will be required. Only the student can provide this information if he/she chooses to do so. Q: Can I see personal information for my students and advisees? A: Yes, you can see personal information such as degree, program, major, addresses, and phone numbers. Q: What does the underline under some items on the screens indicate? A: It is a hyperlink. Additional information is available. Q: Are my office hours, location, and syllabus able to be viewed by the students on the Cavalier Center? A: Yes, under faculty detail schedule, you can enter office hours, location, and syllabus for each class that you are teaching.
