What is the Teacher Leader Academy?
The mission of the Teacher Leader Academy is to equip teachers, coaches and specialists
with the leadership knowledge and skills essential to serve as exceptional leaders
in their current and future roles.
This is not a preparation program for an administrative position.
How can I apply the learning?Any role that requires you to lead other adults:
•Coach and Supervisor positions
•Shared Decision Making Team
•Leadership Team
•School Advisory Council
•Parent Teacher Association
•Grade-level Chairperson or Department Chairperson
•After-school Sponsor of Club or Sports
2018-20 Cohorts•Two-year commitment
•Two cohorts of up to 40 participants each• Cohort 1: DCPS Teachers
• Cohort 2: DCPS Coaches and Specialists
•One Full Day of training each month from September – April• Teachers – Tuesdays
• Coaches and Specialists – Fridays

Minimum Criteria for Applicants •3 years of teaching experience
•2 years of Effective or Highly Effective evaluations
•Recommendation from your evaluator (principal, assistant principal, supervisor, director or executive director)
Selection Process
Candidate participates in virtual informational session.
Candidate completes online application.
Recommendation form automatically emailed to
evaluator.
SCREENER 1:
Candidate applications and
recommendations are reviewed for
minimum qualification and completeness .
SCREENER 2:
Candidate completes
Written Response Tasks.
Written tasks reviewed and
scored.
SCREENER 3:
Candidate participates in
in-person interview.
