The GP rooms are located on thegroundfloorofMstaircaseinIvyCourt.Weholdlotsofsocialeventsthere,butit’sawonderfulspacetorelaxaswellaswork.TheGPisalwaysopenandourmembersarefreetohelpthemselvestofreetea,coffee,snacks,newspapersandmagazines,atanytime.TheGPC also organises an active social schedule: from informal suppers to black-tie dinners, frompartieswithlivemusic,tofamilyevents,fromout-of-towntripstoteaandcakeafternoons.WeholdregulardrinksandfilmnightsintheGP,andinthewinter,wehaveanopenfiretositbyandenjoy.Aregulareventworthremembering isBADinner,a three-coursemeal forgraduatesandtheirguests,heldeveryThursdayduringterm.TheGPCalsosupportsPembrokePapers,acollegesocietyrunbygrads,throughwhichMastersandPhDstudentsgiveshortpresentationsabouttheirresearchorothertopicofinteresteachweekduringterm. Previous talks have been on everything from black holes to queer theory. GP–TheCommunityConfusingly,theGraduateParlour(GP)referstoboththeroomandthewholecommunityofgraduatestudentsatPembrokeCollege.Asagraduatestudent,youareautomaticallyamemberof theGP,aswellastheJPwhichincludestheundergraduatestoo.GP–TheRoomThe GP is a common room just for graduates, located inM staircase. It’s always open, and you’rewelcometocomeinatanytime.There’salwaysfreetea,coffee,biscuitsandsavourysnacks,aswellasfreenewspapersandmagazinestoread,andboardgamestoplay(thesecan’tberemovedfromtheGP!).Therearealsolotsofbookstoborrow.Atmealtimes,manygraduatesbringtheirfoodtotheGPtoeat.MostofourorganisedeventstakeplaceintheGP,too.TheGPcomprises3rooms:
• The Puboard Room: the room at the end of the GPwhich hosts the Puboard, and (limited)kitchen facilities. Coffee machine instructions are available. If you would like access to thepuboard,youcanapplytobeastewardinreturnforservingdrinksatevents–talktoDamienandNaciem,ourGPStewards.
• TheTVRoom:themiddleroomhoststheTV,sofasandchairs.PeoplearewelcometousetheTVwhenevertheywish(withinreason–therearestudentroomsnearby)andpeoplewilloftengathertowatchsportsorpopularshows.WealsohaveaNetflixsubscription.
• Study Room: this is a quiet room, reserved for peoplewhowant towork. There’s a printerwhichyoucanuseforfree,althoughpleasebeconsiderateofothersanddon’tprinttoomuch-weonlyhavelimitedsuppliesofpaperandink.
It’sourcollectiveresponsibilitytokeeptheGPcleanandtidy.Thisincludeswashingalldishes/

Manypersonaldecisionsaremadeandproblems solved throughdiscussionswith friends, family, aCollegeTutor,aNurse,Chaplain, colleague,oraGP.However,at times it is right to seekhelpawayfromone’sfamiliardailyenvironment.TheUniversityCounsellingServiceexiststomeetsuchaneed.Seeking counselling is about making a positive choice to get help by talking confidentially with aprofessionallytrainedlistenerwhohasnootherroleinyourlife.TheServiceisstaffedbyateamoftrained and accredited counsellors and therapists.
