Teacher: Mrs King Welcome to the Music Program for 2018! Welcome back to another musical year at TRPS. Music will be full of singing, dancing and the oppor- tunity to learn to play musical in- struments. Students will also get to show off their musical talents with some planned performances throughout the year! Our lessons will be full of interesting facts, as we delve into the history of music with some famous ‘old school’ composers such as Bach, as well as some well known singer-songwriters. As always music theory and Warm-Ups are the basis of all our music lessons. Bring on the ukuleles! This year the music room has been adorned with colourful stringed ukuleles. The Year Sixes will be the first to have the challenge and privilege of learning this awesome stringed instrument, followed by the Year Fives a little later on in the year. These beauti- ful instruments will broaden our musical rep- ertoire and hopefully bring a little Hawaii into the classroom. Our senior classes as well as Year Four will continue with playing the recorder, helping the students consolidate their reading of musical notes and theory. The younger year levels will begin their musical journey with the glockenspiels as it directly correlates with the keys to the piano and reinforces basic musical notation as well as other percussion instru- ments. Students will also incorporate technology to create and record music. Senior Dance Troupe will continue into its second year! Music

Welcome to the Music Program for 2018!

Welcome back to another musical

year at TRPS. Music will be full of

singing, dancing and the oppor-

tunity to learn to play musical in-

struments. Students will also get

to show off their musical talents

with some planned performances

throughout the year! Our lessons

will be full of interesting facts, as we

delve into the history of music

with some famous ‘old school’ composers such as Bach, as well as some well

known singer-songwriters. As always music theory and Warm-Ups are the basis

of all our music lessons.

This year the music room has been adorned

with colourful stringed ukuleles. The Year

Sixes will be the first to have the challenge

and privilege of learning this awesome

stringed instrument, followed by the Year

Fives a little later on in the year. These beauti-

ful instruments will broaden our musical rep-

ertoire and hopefully bring a little Hawaii into

the classroom. Our senior classes as well as

Year Four will continue with playing the recorder, helping the students consolidate

their reading of musical notes and theory. The younger year levels will begin their

musical journey with the glockenspiels as it directly correlates with the keys to the

piano and reinforces basic musical notation as well as other percussion instru-

ments. Students will also incorporate technology to create and record music.

Senior Dance Troupe will continue into its second year!

There will be a Senior Choir and a Junior Choir in 2018 that will be perform-

ing at different events throughout the

school year. Unfortunately, for our Senior

Choir WAGSMS has been cancelled due

to the unavailability of the Crown theatre

as a venue . WAGSMS was a huge suc-

cess last year with our choir demonstrat-

ing their best performance to date! An al-

ternative event to WAGSMS is currently

being investigated to fill the void. Both

Choirs will start the year off with a local

performance at the Sunset Markets,

Charnwood Park in April. I hope to see

you all there supporting the students.

The Senior Choir will be performing at

our usual school events including the

ANZAC Ceremony, and Graduation. We

will also have both Choirs performing at

the ‘Music of the Night’ Concert which is

now in it’s third year. The Junior Choir

will also perform at various events and

will continue to develop their vocal skills

ready for their transition to the Senior

Choir.

Music as always will be integrated with

other learning areas such as Poetry for

lyric writing, Math and Chinese. History

and Geography are made richer by learn-

ing the songs of that era and location

such as ANZAC day songs and Indige-

nous stories, instruments and music.

The Primary Music Institute will be

providing individual and group lessons again this year for keyboard and gui-

tar, and students will be able to showcase their talents in the ‘Music of the

Night’ concert.
