WELCOME to the MAY 2020
Four Seasons Veterans’ Club Flyer
Through the overwhelming support of our friends and neighbors in the Four Seasons community, the Veterans’ Club extends our sincerest thanks to those who value the contribution of Vets who have defended our Nation. Vets & Residents of the Four Seasons community, a reminder that we are cancelling our meetings and rescheduling upcoming events. We ask those who live near a Vet that does not use email, please make a copy and provide this flyer to that Vet and to any neighbors you know that may be interested. Thank you! Notes from our Editorial Staff:
This May edition of our Flyer will be sent electronically to all Four
Seasons residents. Please note that several of our Veterans’ Club
members have listed their phone numbers in case you would like to
talk with them. Feedback is welcome.
Election of Club Officers This is our last reminder that anyone
wishing to “virtually nominate” any club officer can do so by calling
Doug Satterfield at 570-449-4997 by Friday May 1st with the name(s)
of a Vet member you know could lead us. All nominations are
anonymous. There is not much time left, so please call soon.

Shoebox Coordinator Nancy Schweiker continues sending four
shoeboxes to our service people. For the month of April, these boxes were
shipped to Kuwait, Afghanistan, and Bahrain. Starting in February 2020, the
USPS raised the cost of shipping to $19.60 per box. Due to the Clubhouse
being closed, we are unable to pickup donations at that location. However,
if you would kindly contact Nancy at 609-241-8289 or email her at
[email protected], she would be happy to drive to your location and
pickup your donation. Just leave it outside your front door or garage.
Donations needed include cookies, Slim Jims, beef jerky, toothpaste, baby
wipes (non-alcoholic), socks, T-shirts, and underwear. Anyone can donate.
Thank you.
Mailbox Flags Frank Hackbarth reports
that mailbox flags are not ready to be
distributed to Four Season residents.
However, we would like to begin getting
prepared. All residents in Four Seasons can
request a mailbox flag to be installed by the
Vet Club. We recommend that anyone on a street can list the names and
addresses of those who would like a flag. Please write this on a piece of
paper and mail the list to Frank Hackbarth at 515 Emerson Court, Galloway,
NJ 08205. For those who are new and need a hole drilled, then please print
and complete the form at the end of this flyer. Then mail it to Frank.
Donations are, of course, welcome.
Flag Day Luncheon Lou Cannizzaro announced the rescheduling of our
annual Flag Day Luncheon to later this year (exact date not yet established).
We still plan to have the luncheon at the Mays Landing Country Club. Call
Lou Cannizzaro at 609-652-5202 or Dee Wells at 609-652-1492 for more
information.
Non-Profit Organization The Four Seasons Veterans’ Club is a federally
recognized 501(c) non-profit organization under U.S. law. As such, the club

making donations to our club are not eligible to receive tax-deductible

WHAT VETERANS ARE DOING DURING THE
CORONAVIRUS PANDEMIC?
As the Coronavirus Pandemic persists to keep us under lockdown, we
continue to live our lives. Our Veterans, spouses, significant others, family,
and friends are doing those things that continue to help others and keep
ourselves busy. If you would like to make a suggestion, please call Harry
Wolverton at 609-404-4649. We would especially like to know how our
“snowbirds” are coping down south. Here are a few stories:
Harry & Dotty Wolverton have
been making medical masks out of
everyday material. You can see
Harry in his latest mugshot
wearing the latest style. They are
also constructing a number of
complex puzzles. Harry says these
puzzles take about four days each
to complete.
Jim & Gail Norton are calling hospice patients who are shut-ins to ensure
they are getting sufficient supplies and everything they need, then following
up to make sure all is well. Thank you, Jim and Gail for your honorable acts
of kindness to this people.
Steve & Carol Crofton are busy catching up on work at their home,
especially in the garage area that has been needing work for a long time.
Steve also said he’s catching up on “paperwork.”
Ed Sperling continues to give us some great patriotic works of art. He has
displayed his works at various venues, including our Four Seasons Art
Show. Several people commented favorably on his works; well, more than
that … they love his works. He uses various mediums and is always willing
to try something new. Two of his art pieces are on the next page.

QUESTIONS AND ANSWERS:
Is there someone I can talk to about the benefits of being a Vet? Yes,
the best person to call is Bob Frolow at 609-677-5700. He is our Atlantic
County local Veteran Service Officer.
Does my military service allow me to free burial in a National Cemetary?
Many Vets don’t realize that their service entitles them to be interred in a
national cemetery at no cost to them or their families. However, there are
requirements. For example, the Vet’s discharge must be under conditions
other than dishonorable. “Pre-need” eligibility is covered under the VA. To
determine eligibility for a VA burial and memorial benefits before you are
deceased, simply fill out VA Form 40-10007 and mail it in to the St. Louis
office (address found in the following link) or complete the application on-line.
This information can be found here: www.cem.va.gov/pre-need.

How Do I get a federal Veteran ID Card? First, you must be eligible. To
be eligible, the person must meet both the following: 1) have served on active
duty, in the Reserves, or National Guard [includes the Coast Guard] and 2)
received an Honorable or General Discharge (under honorable conditions). If
eligible, go to the VA website here to get started.
https://www.va.gov/records/get-veteran-id-cards/vic/
How Do I Request Copies of Military Records? Several local residents
asked how to obtain official military records of their relatives. Others have
asked to obtain their own personal records. There are several methods to do
this. What is important to remember is that the U.S. Government Personnel
Records Center does not charge you for this service (except in rare cases).
Unfortunately at this time, only emergency requests are being granted. We
recommend that you speak with a Vet who understands the process before
attempting it yourself. Call Doug Satterfield at 570-449-4997 for more
information. This link can get you started.

Does the VA have a Women Veterans Hotline? Yes, the VA recently
launched its women Veterans hotline: 1-855-VA-WOMEN (1-855-829-6636).
A call center will receive and respond to questions from Veterans, their
families, and caregivers about the many VA services and resources available
to women Vets.
More info can be found on the U.S. Veterans Administration Website:

From: Pvt Murphy Facebook at https://www.facebook.com/privatemurphyslaw/
A BIT OF MILITARY HUMOR from PVT Murphy’s “Rules of Combat”:
1. Never share a foxhole with anyone braver than yourself.
2. The enemy attacks on two occasions, when he’s ready and when you’re not.
3. If it’s stupid but it works, it isn’t stupid
4. No plan ever survives initial contact.
5. The easy way is always mined.
6. Never draw fire, it irritates everyone around you.
7. If you are short on everything but the enemy, you are in a combat zone.
8. If the enemy is in range, so are you.
9. No combat ready unit has ever passed inspection.
10. Tracers work both ways.
11. All 5-second grenade fuses burn down in 3 seconds.
12. & …. The most dangerous thing in a combat zone is a Lieutenant with a map.
WE’RE ALWAYS LOOKING FOR NEW MEMBERS
We welcome ALL veterans from Active Duty, Reserve,
National Guard, & all military services, including
Merchant Marines to join our Veterans Club. We also
highly encourage spouses of deceased members to join.
