Dear Holy Family, St. Mary and St. Anthony’s:
“You are lacking one thing. Go, sell what you have, and give to the poor and you will have treasure in heaven, then come, follow me.” (Mark 10:21)
Maybe best ever! We won’t know for sure until all the bills are paid and the books closed, but the early indications for this year’s St. Anthony Fall Festival are very good. Last year about 640 dinners were served on Sunday. This year it was over 800! Other numbers com-ing in are equally positive. We definitely felt the effect of the presence of Rich & Gabe Yurkovich, most visibly in the lovely full church for the Polka Mass. There was a puzzle about the weekend though. Despite the good sales, we did not have large groups of people in the tent listening either to the Balsam Road Ramblers Saturday evening or to Rich and Gabe on Sunday afternoon. If anyone can explain to us why, we would appreciate it! That leaves us something to work on for next year.
Meanwhile, thank you to all of the volunteers who worked for weeks gathering prizes, decorations and food. Thank you for the army that showed up Saturday to put up the tents, then decorate them so beautifully….. only to take them all down again 24 hours later and stow them away for next year. My prayer is that in giving so deeply of your time and resources you now have in your heart some deep peace and satisfaction, some of that heavenly treasure.
This weekend finally, Shae Horvat is making a presentation at all the Masses about her trip to Casa Hogar orphanage in Lima Peru. She made the trip back in July but between her college schedule and our parish schedules this was the first we could align on an open date. If I believed in coincidences I’d say her speaking on the same weekend we are launching our Annual Diocesan Appeal was one. But I don’t believe in coincidences. I believe if a community is focused on God’s work, he brings about many grace filled opportunities.
Bishop Callahan trusts us! He, like all of us, when truly in need, turns to the people he trusts the most. Our targets this year are $5,847.00 for Holy Family, $14,054.00 for St. Mary’s and $24,772.00 for St. Anthony. If you haven’t already, you will receive a mailing directly from the Bishop asking for your help with the ministries the Diocese are engaged in. A brochure in the mailing will detail the amounts going to fight hunger and poverty, support our senior priests, educate seminarians, and provide for the operation of the diocese. Is it not a privilege to be a part of the great works of the Church?
The mailing includes a Pledge Card. People are invited to make a weekly or monthly contribution over the next 8 months. Many choose to make a one-time contribution. As in the past all contributions exceeding the targets are returned to the parish free of diocesan assessments (tax). These distributions have been very helpful in our balancing the budget in past years. But more than funding ministries here on earth, the Annual Diocesan Appeal is another opportunity for us to store up some of that treasure in heaven.
At the time this letter was written, we had about 85 families signed up online to have their pictures taken for our new Pictorial Directory. We are off to a great start! Beginning today (Saturday, Oct. 10) sign up sheets will be available in the Church entrance ways on the weekends. So as to avoid duplication, the online sign up option will be turned off on the weekends. Please be a part of this pictorial directory. It costs you nothing but an hour of your time and in return you get a free 8 X 10 portrait and a triple pictorial directory having the pictures of people in all three of our parishes…. And their pets! A pictorial directory with people’s home phone, cell phone, and e-mail addresses is a tremendous community builder. I use our present parish directories many times every day. But they have become seriously outdated. Please be a part of this effort!
This Monday and Tuesday I will join the priests of the diocese and Bishop Callahan in La Crosse for our an-nual Fall Clergy Conference. And as mentioned before, our speakers are Michael White and Tom Corcoran, the authors of the book Rebuilt: Awakening the Faithful, Reaching the Lost, Making Church Matter. Although I feel we are well on our way in fulfilling our Mission Statement, I am eager to learn more about how they turned their dying 400 household parish into a 4000 household magnet church. I will no doubt return with more strategies for storing up treasure in heaven!
Fr. Steve

Last year St. Anthony’s started an All Soul’s Day Service of Remembrance where family members
remembered St. Anthony parishioners who had entered eternal life the past year. This year we would like to
invite current parishioners of Holy Family, St. Mary’s, and St. Anthony’s who have lost a loved one this past
year to participate. If you have had a loved one enter eternal life this past year, whether your loved one was a
parishioner or not, we invite you to take part in presenting a candle in remembrance of them during a special
ceremony at the 10:30 mass at St. Anthony’s on Sunday, November 8, 2015. In order to plan for this event
we ask that you call the parish office at 715-255-8017 and let us know who you would like remembered and
who will be taking part in the procession. We request that you let us know your intention of
participating by October 14, 2015 as we will not be able to accommodate requests the day of
the service.
It's HERE!!
St. Mary's is now on-line! Save a check and give on-line. Easy sign up, look for access at www.stanthonyloyal.org website and instructions in the back of church. For questions please call Fr. Steve 715-937-1644 or Sharon Street 715-937-2838.
Preparations are underway for the Annual Fall Harvest Sale at St. Mary's on October 31st. Raffle tickets for the Harvest Sale raffles available in the back of church. All ladies of the parish are asked to pick up an envelope with tickets in to sell. Everyone's help is needed. If you would like to
donate a theme basket for the silent auction, please contact Florence Briski at 715-267-4610. This is also a good time to pay your annual dues of $25.00. Please send that to our treasurer, Florence Briski, at 108 N. River Rd, Greenwood. We also need craft items, baked goods, and workers to help on Friday and the day of the sale. Please contact Colleen Adler (715-267-6459), Pat Lindner (715-267-6355), or Joyce Rondorf (715-267-6076).

40 Days of Life Campaign—Sept. 23 –Nov. 1, 2015 There has been 15 coordinated 40 Days of Life Campaigns since 2007, mobilizing people of faith and conscience in 599 cities across the United States and in 27 countries. Reports document 10,331 lives spared (these are the known ones), 118 abortion workers quit their jobs and 60 abortion facilities shut down. We all cannot pray at an abortion facility, but we can do penance and sacrifices and pray to protect the unborn. There are pro-life prayers in the back of church for you to take and join in this 40 Days of Life Campaign.
An Invitation to Sing. We had a good turnout and lots
of fun preparing for our last choral event. Once again,
for the All Souls Day Mass, I would like to invite people
from Holy Family, St. Anthony’s, and St. Mary’s to raise
our voices to God for this special occasion. All rehears-
als will be from 6:00 -7:30 pm. in St. Anthony’s choir loft.
The dates are as follows: Sunday, October 11; Monday,
October 19; Sunday, October 25; Monday, November 2.
I look forward to singing with you, and I hope to see you
there! ~ Seth Duprey
