THE PROCLAMATION OF THE WORD Please be seated
The First Reading Revelation 7.9-17 Read by Nora Lowe
Reader A reading from the Book of Revelation.
After this I looked, and there was a great multitude that no one could count, from every
nation, from all tribes and peoples and languages, standing before the throne and before the
Lamb, robed in white, with palm branches in their hands. They cried out in a loud voice,
saying, "Salvation belongs to our God who is seated on the throne, and to the Lamb!" And all
the angels stood around the throne and around the elders and the four living creatures, and
they fell on their faces before the throne and worshipped God, singing, "Amen! Blessing and
glory and wisdom and thanksgiving and honour and power and might be to our God forever
and ever! Amen." Then one of the elders addressed me, saying, "Who are these, robed in
white, and where have they come from?" I said to him, "Sir, you are the one that knows."
Then he said to me, "These are they who have come out of the great ordeal; they have washed
their robes and made them white in the blood of the Lamb. For this reason they are before the
throne of God, and worship him day and night within his temple, and the one who is seated on
the throne will shelter them. They will hunger no more, and thirst no more; the sun will not
strike them, nor any scorching heat; for the Lamb at the centre of the throne will be their
shepherd, and he will guide them to springs of the water of life, and God will wipe away
every tear from their eyes."
Reader The word of the Lord.
All Thanks be to God.

Psalm 34.1-10, 22 Benedicam Domino. Sung by the Cantor
I I WILL alway give thanks unto the Lord; /
his praise shall ever be in my mouth. 2
My soul shall make her boast in the Lord; /
the humble shall hear thereof and be glad. 3 O praise the lord with me, /
and let us magnify his Name together. 4 I sought the Lord, and he heard me; /
yea, he delivered me out of all my fears. 5 O look unto him and be lightened; /
and your faces shall not be ashamed. 6 This poor man cried, and the Lord heard him; /
yea, and saved him out of all his troubles. 7 The angel of the Lord tarrieth round about them that fear him, /
and delivereth them. 8 O taste and see how gracious the Lord is: /
blessed is the man that trusteth in him. 9 O fear the Lord, ye that are his saints; /
for they that fear him lack nothing. 10
The lions do lack, and suffer hunger; /
but they who seek the Lord shall want no manner of thing that is good. 22
The Lord delivereth the souls of his servants; /
and all they that put their trust in him shall not be destitute.
The Second Reading 1 John 3.1-3
Reader A reading from the First Book of John. Read by Nora Lowe
See what love the Father has given us, that we should be called children of God; and that is
what we are. The reason the world does not know us is that it did not know him. Beloved, we
are God's children now; what we will be has not yet been revealed. What we do know is this:
when he is revealed, we will be like him, for we will see him as he is. And all who have this
hope in him purify themselves, just as he is pure.
Reader The word of the Lord.
All Thanks be to God.

The Holy Gospel Matthew 5.1-12
Gospeller The Lord be with you.
All And also with you. Gospeller The Holy Gospel of our Lord Jesus Christ according to Saint Matthew.
All Glory to you, Lord Jesus Christ.
When Jesus saw the crowds, he went up the mountain; and after he sat down, his disciples
came to him. Then he began to speak, and taught them, saying: "Blessed are the poor in spirit,
for theirs is the kingdom of heaven. Blessed are those who mourn, for they will be comforted.
Blessed are the meek, for they will inherit the earth. Blessed are those who hunger and thirst
for righteousness, for they will be filled. Blessed are the merciful, for they will receive mercy.
Blessed are the pure in heart, for they will see God. Blessed are the peacemakers, for they will
be called children of God. Blessed are those who are persecuted for righteousness' sake, for
theirs is the kingdom of heaven. Blessed are you when people revile you and persecute you
and utter all kinds of evil against you falsely on my account. Rejoice and be glad, for your
reward is great in heaven, for in the same way they persecuted the prophets who were before
you."
Gospeller The Gospel of Christ.
All Praise to you, Lord Jesus Christ.

Sermon The Reverend Canon Dr. David Neelands Please be seated
The Nicene Creed Please stand
Bishop: Let us confess our faith, as we say,
All: We believe in one God, the Father, the Almighty,
maker of heaven and earth, of all that is, seen and unseen.
We believe in one Lord, Jesus Christ, the only Son of God,
eternally begotten of the Father, God from God, Light from Light,
true God from true God, begotten, not made,
of one being with the Father.
Through him all things were made.
-
7
For us and for our salvation he came down from heaven:
by the power of the Holy Spirit
he became incarnate from the Virgin Mary, and was made man.
For our sake he was crucified under Pontius Pilate;
he suffered death and was buried.
On the third day he rose again in accordance with the scriptures;
he ascended into heaven and is seated at the right hand of the Father.
He will come again in glory to judge the living and the dead,
and his kingdom will have no end.
We believe in the Holy Spirit, the Lord, the giver of life,
who proceeds from the Father.
With the Father and the Son he is worshipped and glorified.
He has spoken through the prophets.
We believe in one holy catholic and apostolic Church.
We acknowledge one baptism for the forgiveness of sins.
We look for the resurrection of the dead,
and the life of the world to come. Amen.
Bishop invites congregation to be seated.
The Presentation Congregation is seated

Diocese of Toronto, we present you Michael to be ordained a priest in Christ’s
holy catholic Church.
Bishop Has he been selected in accordance with the canons and customs of this
Church? And do you believe his manner of life to be suitable to the exercise of
this ministry?
Presenters We certify to you that he has been duly selected, and we believe him to be
qualified for this order.
The Bishop says to the Ordinand
Bishop Will you be loyal to the doctrine, discipline, and worship of Christ as this

Church has received them? And will you, in accordance with the canons of
this Church, obey your bishop and other ministers who may have authority
over you and your work?
Ordinand I am willing and ready to do so; and I solemnly declare that I do believe the
holy scriptures of the Old and New Testaments to be the word of God, and to
contain all things necessary to salvation; and I do solemnly promise to
conform to the doctrine, discipline, and worship of the Anglican Church of
Canada.
Presenters return to seats.
Bishop invites congregation to please stand.
Bishop Dear friends in Christ, you know the importance of this ministry, and the
weight of your responsibility in presenting Michael Perry for ordination to the
sacred priesthood. Therefore, if any of you know any impediment or crime
for which we should not proceed, come forward now and make it known.
If no objection is made, the Bishop continues.
Bishop Is it your will that Michael be ordained a priest?
All It is.
Bishop Will you uphold him in this ministry?
All We will. Bishop invites congregation to be seated.
The Examination Congregation is seated.
The Ordinand stands before the Bishop.
Bishop Michael, the Church is the family of God, the body of Christ, and the temple
of the Holy Spirit. All baptized people are called to make Christ known as
Saviour and Lord, and to share in the renewing of his world. Now you are
called to work as a pastor, priest, and teacher, together with your bishop and
fellow presbyters, and to take your share in the councils of the Church.
As a priest, it will be your task to proclaim by word and deed the gospel of
Jesus Christ, and to fashion your life in accordance with its precepts. You are
to love and serve the people among whom you work, caring alike for young
and old, strong and weak, rich and poor. You are to preach, to declare God’s
-
9
forgiveness to penitent sinners, to pronounce God’s blessing, to preside at the
administration of holy baptism and at the celebration of the mysteries of
Christ’s body and blood, and to perform the other ministrations entrusted to
you.
In all that you do, you are to nourish Christ’s people from the riches of his
grace, and to strengthen them to glorify God in this life and in the life to come.
Do you believe that you are truly called by God and his Church to this
priesthood?
Ordinand I believe I am so called.
Bishop Do you now in the presence of the Church commit yourself to this trust and
responsibility?
Ordinand I do.
Bishop Will you respect and be guided by the pastoral direction and leadership of
your bishop?
Ordinand I will.
Bishop Will you be diligent in the reading and study of the holy scriptures, and in
seeking the knowledge of such things as may make you a stronger and more
able minister of Christ?
Ordinand I will.
Bishop Will you endeavour so to minister the word of God and the sacraments of the
new covenant, that the reconciling love of Christ may be known and received?
Ordinand I will.
Bishop Will you undertake to be a faithful pastor to all whom you are called to serve,
labouring together with them and with your fellow ministers to build up the
family of God?
Ordinand I will.
Bishop Will you do your best to pattern your life in accordance with the teachings of
Christ, so that you may be a wholesome example to your people?
Ordinand I will.
Bishop Will you persevere in prayer, both in public and in private, asking God’s
grace, both for yourself and for others, and offering all your labours to God,
-
10
through the mediation of Jesus Christ, and in the sanctification of the Holy
Spirit?
Ordinand I will.
Bishop May the Lord who has given you the will to do these things give you the grace
and power to perform them.
Ordinand Amen.

Hymn Come Holy Ghost, Our Souls Inspire VENI CREATOR SPIRITUS
Please kneel Bishop Come, Holy Ghost, our souls inspire, Cantor And lighten with celestial fire…
A period of silent prayer follows. The Bishop stands with the priests who assist and begins the
following Prayer of Consecration.
Bishop We praise and glorify you, almighty Father, because you have formed throughout
the world a holy people for your own possession, a royal priesthood, a universal
Church.
We praise and glorify you because you have given us your only Son Jesus Christ
to be the Apostle and High Priest of our faith, and the Shepherd of our souls.
We praise and glorify you that by his death Christ has overcome death; and that,
having ascended into heaven, he has given his gifts abundantly to your people,
making some, apostles; some, prophets; some, evangelists; some, pastors and
teachers; to equip them for the work of ministry and to build up his Body.
And now we give you thanks that you have called this your servant to share this
ministry entrusted to your Church.
Send down your Holy Spirit upon your servant Michael whom we now
consecrate in your name to the office and work of a priest in the Church.
The Bishop then continues, with hands extended.
Almighty Father, give to this your servant grace and power to fulfill his ministry
among the people committed to his charge; to watch over them and care for them;
to absolve and bless them in your name; and to proclaim the gospel of your
salvation. Set him among your people to offer spiritual sacrifices acceptable in
your sight, and as you have called him to your service, make him by the gift of
your Holy Spirit worthy of his calling. Give him wisdom and discipline to work
faithfully with all his fellow servants in Christ, that the world may come to know
your glory and your love.
-
13
Accept our prayers, most merciful Father, through your Son Jesus Christ our
Lord, to whom, with you and your Holy Spirit, belong glory and honour, worship
and praise, now and for ever.
All Amen.

in the lives of all his saints.
Receive all we offer you this day,
and help us, like them, to run our course with faith,
that we may come to your eternal kingdom.
We ask this in the name of Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.
The Great Thanksgiving
Bishop The Lord be with you.
All And also with you. Bishop Lift up your hearts.
All We lift them to the Lord.
Bishop Let us give thanks to the Lord our God.
All It is right to give our thanks and praise.
Bishop Blessed are you, gracious God, creator of heaven and earth; in the multitude of
your saints you have surrounded us with so great a cloud of witnesses, that we,
rejoicing in their fellowship, may run with patience the race that is set before us,
and together with them receive the crown of glory that never fades away.
Therefore with angels and archangels and with all who have served you in every
age, we raise our voices to proclaim the glory of your name.
All (Said) Holy, holy, holy, Lord, God of power and might,
Heaven and earth are full, full of your glory.
Hosanna in the highest.
Blessed is he who comes in the name of the Lord.
Hosanna in the highest.
Bishop We give thanks to you, Lord our God,
for the goodness and love
you have made known to us in creation;
in calling Israel to be your people;
in your Word spoken through the prophets;
and above all in the Word made flesh, Jesus your Son.
For in these last days you sent him
to be incarnate from the Virgin Mary,
to be the Saviour and Redeemer of the world.
-
15
In him, you have delivered us from evil,
and made us worthy to stand before you.
In him, you have brought us out of error into truth,
out of sin into righteousness, out of death into life.
On the night he was handed over to suffering and death,
a death he freely accepted, our Lord Jesus Christ took bread;
and when he had given thanks to you, he broke it,
and gave it to his disciples, and said, “Take, eat:
this is my body which is given for you.
Do this for the remembrance of me.”
After supper he took the cup of wine;
and when he had given thanks, he gave it to them, and said,
“Drink this, all of you: this is my blood of the new covenant,
which is shed for you and for many for the forgiveness of sins.
Whenever you drink it, do this for the remembrance of me.”
Therefore, Father, according to his command,
All we remember his death,
we proclaim his resurrection,
we await his coming in glory;
Bishop and we offer our sacrifice, of praise and thanksgiving
to you, Lord of all; presenting to you, from your creation,
this bread and this wine.
We pray you, gracious God, to send your Holy Spirit upon these gifts,
that they may be the sacrament of the body of Christ
and his blood of the new covenant.
Unite us to your Son in his sacrifice, that we, made acceptable in him,
may be sanctified by the Holy Spirit.
In the fullness of time, reconcile all things in Christ,
and make them new, and bring us to that city of light
where you dwell with all your sons and daughters;
through Jesus Christ our Lord, the firstborn of all creation,
the head of the Church, and the author of our salvation;
by whom, and with whom, and in whom,
in the unity of the Holy Spirit,
-
16
all honour and glory are yours, almighty Father, now and for ever.
All Amen.
The Lord’s Prayer
Bishop As our Saviour taught us, we are bold to say,
All Our Father, who art in heaven, hallowed be thy name,
thy kingdom come, thy will be done, on earth as it is in heaven.
Give us this day our daily bread.
And forgive us our trespasses,
as we forgive those who trespass against us.
And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil.
For thine is the kingdom, the power, and the glory,
for ever and ever. Amen.
The Breaking of the Bread
Bishop “I am the bread which has come down from heaven,” says the Lord.
All Give us this bread for ever. Bishop “I am the vine, you are the branches.”
All May we dwell in him, as he lives in us.
Bishop The gifts of God for the People of God.
All Thanks be to God.

Communion Hymn: Ubi Caritas Deus ibi est TAIZÉ
Ubi caritas, et amor, ubi caritas Deus ibi est. Where there is charity, selfless love, where there is charity, God is truly there. God so loved the world that he gave his only Son so that all who believe in him may not perish but may have eternal life. God did not send the Son into the world to condemn the world but in order that the world might be save through him. Let us love one another because love is from God; everyone who loves is born of God and knows God. God’s love was revealed among us in this way: God sent his Son into the world so that we might live through him. In this is love, not that we loved God but that God, first, loved us. No one has ever seen God. If we love one another, God lives in us and his love is made perfect in us. We have known and believe the love that God has for us.
God is love and those who abide in love, abide in God and God abides in them.
Motet: Ave Verum Corpus WILLIAM BYRD

O loving, O holy, O Jesu, thou Son of Mary, O have mercy on me. Amen.
