IB Phrases to KnowSL – Standard Level: A course that has 150 seat hours. Students must take three SL courses.

HL – Higher Level: A course that has 240 seat hours. Students must take three HL courses.

* NOTE * In some instances, a student may take four HL classes and two SL classes.

IB Phrases to KnowInternal Assessment: An evaluation instrument that is graded by the teacher but is moderated by another teacher somewhere in the world.

External Assessment: The culminating exam given in May of a student’s senior year, though one or two tests may be taken at the end of the junior year.
