Purpose of Title One

To identify areas which may be difficult for children

Provide instruction and support Help the children succeed

What is Title I ?

Federally funded programReading and Math supplemental

intervention programBased on Free and or Reduced

their proficiencies

Is Title Special Ed?

NO!!! Title One is not special education.

It is an individualized, supplemental instruction that reinforces skills already taught in the regular instructional program.

Why small groups?

It’s on a more individualized basis. Children feel more at ease to take risks. Children get more opportunities to answer

questions and feel successful and gain self confidence that carries over into the regular classroom.

How did your child qualify for Title I ?

– Reading: DIBELS = Dynamic Indicators of Basic Early Literacy Skills- this measures early

literacy development– Teacher and/or Principal Recommendations– Recommendations from the previous year’s teacher

Title I Program

– Kindergarten, First, Second, Third

– Reading pull out

– First – Third: 35 minutes a day, 4/5 days a week

– Kindergarten: 35 minutes a day, 4/5 days a week

– Differentiated Learning: Books, letter play, sentence writing, word wall words, word patterns, picture and word sorts, and reviewing letter sounds and letter names.

– Different Reading Strategies: Predict, Questions, Clarify for Phonics, Clarify for an Idea, Summarize

– Kindergarten: Early Reading Intervention

– 1st - 3rd : My Sidewalks Series

Title I Folders:

–Reading/Sight Words Logs.

–Folders –(Reading, Poetry, Letter Play)

–Communications: Newsletters, Title I Family Events

How can you help your child?

– Have your child read everyday: 15/20 minutes a night.

– Review sight words, vocabulary words, and letter names and letter sounds.

– When reading …ask your child questions, stop and predict what is next, have them summarize in their own words, and have them clarify for phonics.
