OUR ASSESSMENT JOURNEY IN HCPSS
NEXT GENERATION ASSESSMENTS…
WITH…
Assessment Tasks for Language Arts Assessment Tasks for Mathematics
SHIFTS IN ASSESSMENT IN HCPSS The Common Core will be assessed with new
innovative item structures that were not used on previous assessments.
Local assessments were administered within a testing window that did not align with some students’ needs.
Assessments should drive daily instruction and customizing assessments will allow for more timely data-driven decision making.
Teacher-designed assessments will increase teacher knowledge of Common Core standards.
OUR NEW DIRECTION… Avoids over-testing by replacing formal local
assessments with a menu of tasks that can be used at the discretion of each teacher.
Provides teachers with assessment examples to develop their understanding of CCSS.
Provides opportunities for students to work with rigorous items.
Provides models that teachers can use to develop their own assessment items.
Supports data conversations.

P.B.I.S. BIG IDEAS Positive Behavior Interventions and Support
is a process for teaching children appropriate behavior and providing the supports necessary to sustain that behavior.
PBIS is not a curriculum- it is a framework for systems to identify needs, develop strategies, and evaluate practices towards success.
PBIS BIG IDEAS Ducketts Lane has identified 3 overarching
expectations which reflect the needs of the school community. The expectations are stated briefly and in a positive manner.
The expectations for DLES are: Respectful Responsible Ready to Learn
Incentives include DLES owl feather tickets, Team Celebrations, etc. for displaying positive behaviors
PBIS BIG IDEAS Character Education
Character Trait lessons will occur each month with Mrs. Miller, your school guidance counselor
Bully-Free School Lessons and a pledge will occur with each class
5 CORE RULES IN 1ST GRADE Follow directions quickly Raise your hand for permission to speak Respect yourself, others, and property Make wise choices Take responsibility
