FOCUS OF DUAL CREDIT PROGRAMS

transportation, books and supplies are covered)• Students can earn up to four elective credits towards their OSSD.
CATEGORIES OF DUAL CREDITS

apprenticeship• Credit is recorded on the college record
using college course codes and on the OST using special dual credit codes
• May be integrated with college students or congregated with high school students
Team Taught• Curriculum alignment between college
and high school course• Taught by secondary school teacher
and college professor• Credit is recorded on the college
record using the college course codes and on the OST using the secondary school code
COLLEGE DELIVERED MODELS
Integrated• Students are in courses with
other college students. • Gives the truest college
experience.• Student must be more
independent and academically strong.
Congregated• Students are in courses with
other high school students.• Courses are taught by a college
instructor.• Better suited for students who
are not as independent or have anxiety about coming to college.
TARGET GROUP FOR DUAL CREDITS
• “Primary focus group includes disengaged and underachieving students who have the potential to succeed but are at risk of not graduating, and students who left school without graduating” (Dual credit programs, Policy and Program Requirements, 2013)
• Handout outlines examples of what is meant by this statement. Many students benefit from dual credits and the definition is quite broad.
