Prayer For Priests

Lord Jesus Christ, eternal High Priest, you offered yourself to the Father on the altar of the cross and through the outpouring of the Holy Spirit gave your priestly people a share in your redeeming sacrifice. Hear our prayer for the sanctifica-tion of our priests. Grant that all who are ordained to the ministerial priesthood may be ever more conformed to you, the Divine Master. May they preach the Gospel with pure heart and clear conscience. Let them be shepherds according to your own heart, single-minded in service to you and to the Church, and shining examples of a holy, sim-ple, and joyful life. Through the prayers of the

Blessed Virgin Mary, your Mother

and ours, draw all priests and the

flocks entrusted to their care to the

fullness of eternal life where you live

and reign with the Father and the

Holy Spirit, one God, for ever and

From The Pastor’s Desk Our gradual return to Sunday Mass continues to go well. As time goes on, more and more parishioners are feeling comfortable and confident to rejoin times of common worship. However, I still encourage all parishioners to make prudent choices for their own health. Many heartfelt thanks to our amazing volunteers for stepping forward and assisting with all the ministries and tasks! Your com-mitment and generosity has helped many people receive Holy Communion. That is a great thing, especially on this Feast of Corpus Christi.

Based upon the very low numbers for the Sunday evening Mass, we have decided to cancel it. We simply do not need it at this time. This also will give us greater flexibility in scheduling First Holy Communion in July, which remains a top priority for us. Therefore, this Sunday, June 14, will be the last SUNDAY 4:00 P.M. Mass. Thanks for your understanding.

We raise up our heartfelt prayers for our nation and the world. These are challenging times. How-ever, we can be certain that prayer makes a positive difference. We pray for healing and reconcili-ation. We pray for respect for the rule of law and for equal justice under it. We pray for all victims of violence. We pray for our government leaders. And, we pray for the good men and women of law enforcement (including the many members of our parish who serve our community with dedi-cation and distinction). With the gradual reopening going well, we are happy to have a gradual return to other forms of prayer including Daily Mass (see bulletin each week for the current sched-ule) and a return to our common devotional prayers like Marian Devotions and Eucharistic Adora-tion.

I recently received word of my new assignment. Starting later this summer, I will be serving at the Congregation for Bishops in Rome. The Congregation for Bishops is one of the “departments” of the Holy See. This new appointment will be both a challenge and an adventure. In your kindness, please remember me in your prayers, as I prepare to take up this task and move far from home. As previously mentioned, I will remain as pastor of St. Alphonsus Parish until August 4, when Fr. Kevin McManaman takes up the mantle of leadership. We continue to pray for him during this time of transition.

Sincerely yours in Christ,

- Fr. Aaron Esch

Archbishop John Carroll’s Prayer For Government Composed for the Inauguration of George Washington-1789

Father Aaron concluded his homily this past Sunday with a Prayer composed by the first Catholic Bishop of our country, Archbishop John Carroll. We would like to share it with you:

We pray you, O God of might, wisdom, and justice, through whom authority is rightly administered, laws are enacted, and judgment decreed, assist with your Holy Spirit of counsel and fortitude the President of these United States, that his administration may be conducted in righteousness, and be eminently useful to your people, over whom he presides; by encouraging due respect for virtue and religion; by a faithful execution of the laws in justice and mercy; and by restraining vice and immorality.

Let the light of your divine wisdom direct the deliberations of Congress, and shine forth in all the proceedings and laws framed for our rule and government, so that they may tend to the preserva-tion of peace, the promotion of national happiness, the increase of industry, sobriety, and useful knowledge; and may perpetuate to us the blessing of equal liberty.

We pray for the governor of this state, for the members of the assembly, for all judges, magis-trates, and other officers who are appointed to guard our political welfare, that they may be enabled, by your powerful protection, to discharge the duties of their respective stations with honesty and ability.

We recommend likewise, to your unbounded mercy, all our fellow citizens throughout the United States, that we may be blessed in the knowledge and sanctified in the observance of your most holy law; that we may be preserved in union, and in that peace which the world cannot give; and after enjoying the blessings of this life, be admitted to those which are eternal.

Grant this, we beseech you, O Lord of mercy, through Jesus Christ, our Lord and Savior. Amen.
