HomeworkTuesdays-Read story of the week to a
grownup. Thursdays-Study spelling and review for story test.
Fridays-Study for religion test.Other tests, etc. do not always fall on
the same day. Most days we will have math.
All ASSIGNED homework should be written in planner. Work not finished in class will just be in the bring right back side of folder.
Correct and ReturnAny papers marked correct and
return should be corrected as soon as possible and returned to school.
These papers will be rechecked and sent back home.

Ways to Help Your ChildHave your child read a lot. The more you
read, the better you get. Read to your child.
Have your child retell a story he/she just read.
Ask questions such as, “Why do you think that character did that?” “Did you ever do something like that?” (Connections to self), “Can you think of another book you read where something similar happened?” (Text to text connections).

strategies in our reading groups and in whole class.

More Ways to Help Your ChildPractice math facts.Basic math facts are the foundation
for more advanced math. Having them memorized helps make learning the more advanced concepts easier.
We will have times math fact tests this year. (Addition and Subtraction basic facts). Those who need enrichment will be able to progress to multiplication basic facts.
EnrichmentProblem solving skills for mathTimed fact tests-Students
progress through at their own rate.
Leveled readers, book boxes, and literature circles for reading.
What to Study for TestsStory Test-Practice reading
vocabulary words, reread story, retell story
Spelling Test-Practice spelling words on sheet that was sent home (Spelling City, practice test, games on computer, magnet letters, etc.)
Science and Social Studies Tests-Study guide will go home approximately a week before the test.
What to Study for Tests (continued)Religion-Review key words
(highlighted) in the chapter. Chapter “test” as the end of each chapter.
Math-Watch the papers that come home in your child’s travel folder. Check that he/she is understanding concepts. I will send the test from the end of the chapter to do as a review the night before.
