Parishioners’ Thoughts on Surviving the Corona Virus and Quarantine

If you would like to share your thoughts with our parish family, please send a note to the rectory office or email [email protected]. Whatever you or your family are doing that works for you may help someone else and also helps us stay in touch until we can get together again. Some of you may even have a funny story to share.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Mary Lawson: I do stay in touch with some church friends by telephone or email & on sunny days visit with a few friends outside, 6 ft apart. I watch the Sunday Mass on channel 8 & Sacred Heart Mass by computer a couple times a week, plus I can read the bulletin there also.
When I think I am bored or weary, I thank God for a house & yard & computer and shape up!
As for attending Mass, I miss it a lot, but will choose to wait to see how this plays out the next few weeks, as I am a poor candidate for a ventilator!
Thanks to Fr Kosch & helpers for providing streamed Mass & church updates & messages. Colleen Michels: The first Sunday we celebrated Mass at home, via EWTN, something struck me in a new way: the realization that our home truly is a "little domestic Church" on earth. This little "nudge" from the Holy Spirit gave me pause. I thought about how the coronavirus is way too big for me to even wrap my head around it, BUT it is not too big for God. He is in control. This gave me peace. His love is unchanging, and He promised He'd never leave nor forsake us. Within that moment, it all seemingly "came together" for me.
This led me to think about how the Sacraments are paramount in my life. Through them, Jesus has brought healing, strength, and restoration. The fact that Jesus comes to me in all of His fullness; body, blood, soul, and divinity is beyond incredible! How very important, then, that Steve and I--with the aid of God's grace--always teach our children how very important their faith is and the reception of the Sac-raments. This is accomplished through our "little domestic Church" on earth. Pat Claussen: Because I work in a diagnostic laboratory I have had training in biohazard safety. I was familiar with PPE and the procedures to protect against exposure and preventing the spread of diseased samples. Because of health problems, I have already had limited social options the last couple of years, so self quarantine was nothing new.
I have relied heavily on KVSS radio for Mass and spiritual programs. The Word Among Us was also very helpful. I connected with my friends by phone and social media. My prayer life is much deeper, espe-cially the Rosary.
Spending time with nature was helpful. I turned to sources I trusted for news once a day for a limited amount of times on weekdays.
I appreciate the way Father Kosch uses precaution without excessive measures in distributing commun-ion. I feel it is safe to receive on the tongue. I feel strongly every individual should have that choice unless the Bishop mandates differently. Chris and Marty Lesiak: I (Chris) have been working from home since a six day shutdown at the end of March. Email and Microsoft Teams allow communication with coworkers -- we even turn our cameras on for Monday morning group meetings.
Marty has kept in touch with coworkers at Lincoln High mostly over text messages, but as a paraeduca-tor there really wasn't much work to be done from home.
We've seen Lauren a few times but mostly keep in touch with text messages. She graduated from UNL this spring and will continue her studies at the University of California, Berkeley.
Eric moved home from the dorms at UNL in April and was back to work at Blue Sushi Sake Grill when they reopened about a week ago.
William is happy that school is over for the spring.
We've kept in touch with other family and friends via email, texts, and the occasional phone call.
My spiritual life has been fed with the daily Mass readings and a weekly Holy Hour.
We look forward to attending Mass soon. We haven't attended yet because we wanted to see how infec-tion numbers in Lincoln changed when things started opening back up.
We have room for people at most Masses: There is room for about 60-70 people per Mass, even with the closed areas. If you are thinking about returning to Mass, note that the fullest have been the 7:30am and 11:00am on Sundays. The smallest number has been Saturday at 5:00 pm. Weekday Masses have generally had about 30 people, with room for 30 more.
Reminder to pray well at home: If you are not able to attend Sunday Mass, please remember that you have the privilege and duty as a Baptized Catholic to worship God as best you can on Sundays. Keep making time for prayer at home, such as participating in the Mass online or on TV, reading the Bi-ble, and/or praying the Rosary. May our faith keep growing as we take little steps towards “normalcy”.
If you or others around you are at risk, please stay home. We will continue to livestream 7:30 am Mass on Sundays, as well as some weekday Masses. Go to: www.Facebook.com/sacredheartlincolnNE
The new missalettes are in a box in the back of church. You may take one to use at home, or to bring back-and-forth to Mass. If you take a missalette, please do NOT give it back unless you are asked.
