The ACCUPLACER
Placement Exam covers two subjects
Math and English
Your College Transcripts, SAT, AP, and CLEP Scores are
reviewed to determine which subject(s) you will need to test for.

MATH PLACEMENT TEST
Consists of Two Sections:
You will be given 1 ½ HOURS (90 MINUTES)
TO COMPLETE THE ENTIRE MATH TEST
Calculators are not permitted on the exam.
There may be some questions that a calculator is permitted. A calculator icon will appear on the specific question.
**There are no exceptions for use of a personal calculator**

ENGLISH PLACEMENT TESTIf you are not scheduled to take the English Exam the next 2 slides do not apply to you
Consists of Three Sections:
You will be given 2 1/2 HOURS (150 MINUTES)
TO COMPLETE THE ENTIRE ENGLISH TEST
1) Reading Comprehension2) Sentence Sense
*You have 90 minutes (1 ½ hours) to complete the first two sections
3) Essay Questions *You have 60 minutes (1 hour) to complete the essay question

opportunity to read the
passage and assignment

You will be given 60 Minutes
to complete the essay. If you are
not finished with the essay, your response will
be submitted as is.

TESTING PROCEDURES…
Please Review• Do Not Open Any Pages On The Computer (i.e. Internet Explorer,
Word, Excel, etc.)
• All Cell Phones Must Be Turned Off **Please take a moment to ensure that your phone is turned off or on silent**
• No Calculators
• Sign And Date Scrap Paper
• Scrap Paper Must Be Turned Into A Proctor After The Math Test
• Scrap Paper Can Not Be Used During English Placement Testing
• Please Remove Everything From Your Desk Except The Scrap Paper and Pencil After You Sign In With Your RUID Number

Pending Transcripts
If you are a Freshman that has taken a college course
or a Transfer Student please note:
All OFFICIAL transcripts with college credits MUST be sent to
Rutgers University-Newark for evaluation by July 1st.
If you have taken a college course while in High School (HS)
you should inform the academic advisor during registration. The
University does not receive notification from your HS of college
credits you have earned.
• Official AP or CLEP exam scores also need to be sent to
Rutgers by the deadline.
• It is important that you DO NOT register for a course at RU-N
that you MIGHT receive transfer credit for.
