  • The real heart of Scotland, where Highland and Lowland meet. Mountains and glens lie to the north. Below them are attractive and old-established towns, along with the vibrant cultural and historical hub of the city of Perth.

Towns and VillagesPerthshires towns are clustered around the Highland line, with long-established little resorts like Dunkeld, Pitlochry and Crieff attracting generations of visitors. They offer plenty to do and see, from Pitlochrys Festival Theatre to Crieff s Famous Grouse Experience. Speciality shopping for crafts and antiques, say, at Dunkeld or Aberfeldy, is another feature, while smaller communities such as Killin or Comrie also have lots to offer.

Easy TouringThe long east-west glens and the speedy A9 Highland Road make for rewarding circular day tours, wherever your holiday base. Link up attractions such as Scone Palace on the outskirts of Perth with Blair Castle on the A9 and Castle Menzies near Aberfeldy for a castle-visiting excursion. Or go from Edradour Distillery in Pitlochry via Dewars Aberfeldy Distillery to Glenturret

Distillery in Crieff for a journey round some fine malt whiskies! The Queens View over Loch Tummel and the Scottish Crannog Centre are just two of the other must-sees you can fit in on the way.

Trees and GardensAround 13% of the landscape of Perthshire is forested. This is Big Tree Country. Dont miss the worlds tallest hedge at Meikleour near Blairgowrie, or the oldest living tree in Europe - a yew at Fortingall in Glen Lyon. A tour round Perthshire takes you round the finest gardens, from the Meconopsis, the famous blue poppies of Branklyn, via the clipped formality of Drummond Gardens, to the glorious rhododendrons of Glendoick.

Activities and AdventuresGleneagles and Rosemount (Blairgowrie) head a long list of parkland courses in glorious settings. Discounts such

  • as the Perthshire Highlands Golf Ticket and the Perthshire Green Card make this area a great golfing choice. Anglers have the Tay, the Earn, Isla and Ericht, and one of Scotlands best-known trout-fishing lochs - Loch Leven - plus a big range of hill lochs. Watersports companies offer activites including white-water rafting down to the rapids at Grandtully. On land, activity providers organise everything from upland Perthshire safaris to sphereing and bungee jumping.

ShoppingPerth offers an excellent shopping choice with its mix of High Street and speciality stores. Elsewhere look out for the choice of local businesses - crafts, countrywear, gifts, delicatessens - in towns such as Aberfeldy and Crieff, Auchterarder and Blairgowrie.

Walking and WaterfallsSerious hillwalkers have a great choice of high tops, from the high-level reaches of the Carn Marig group north of Glen Lyon to the lonely and wild peaks around Beinn a Ghlo in Atholl. But there is plenty at lower level as well. Take a gentle stroll on Lady Marys Walk at Crieff - just one of many walks in this area. Try the Birks of Aberfeldy and the Falls of Moness above Aberfeldy, or the Falls of Braan at the Hermitage by Dunkeld. Endless choice and plenty of wildlife too, from red squirrel to leaping salmon.

The Cairngorms National ParkWelcome to The Cairngorms National Park in the heart of the Scottish Highlands. The largest National Park in Britain offers a broad base of accommodation, activity and attractions - making this the no.1 holiday destination in the UK.

Our towns and villages have a great range of small independent shops, restaurants, cafes and bars to suit all your needs. If you are looking for attractions and activities then you have hit the jackpot! On the land, on the mountain, on the water, on the cycle track - there is fun to be had here for the whole family.

Year of Innovation, Architecture and Design 2016From textiles and technology, to architecture, fashion, and more, this year shines the spotlight on Scotlands greatest assets, icons, and hidden gems. Perthshires Cairn oMohr Fruit Winery and CiderhouseThe Cairn o Mohr winery started out from nothing and a demijohn in 1987. The winery is set around an 18th century steading in a charming little spot in the country. Here we produce award winning fruit wines from the berries, leaves and flowers that grow around the rolling hills of Perthshire, usually. We now produce cider from local apples.

    What is there anyway?

Winery tours and tastingsA full tour of the winery premises with an explanation of the winemaking process given by our knowledgeable guides. The party then proceeds to the tasting rooms where they may sample their way through the range before purchasing some to take home with them, from the shop obviously.

Cairn oMohr CafeServing exquisite soups, massive gourmet sandwiches and fabulous-looking cakes and sconnery by our own masterchef, Ali Abercrombie.

    Cairn oMohr Shop

Sampling in our shop at the winery with a chance to buy. Also try the special varieties that cant be seen elsewhere like Mutiny, Strawbubbly and sparkling Oak and Elder (wedding Blend).

Also a selection of strange micro beers.

  • The Cairn o Mohr RangeWe make real fruit wines

notes: If I open a bottle of my wine the cap is rarely replaced. Dont be like me though, you be good. Some like to drink them as they would a liqueur. Just to say they do keep well up to a week in the fridge. The year produced is indicated by the last two digits on the batch code.

You dont need grapes to make good wine you know. At the Cairn O Mohr winery we make wine out of strawberries, raspberries, brambles and lots of other things that grow fine right here in Scotland.

Join us on facebook to see what our fans are saying and find out whats happening at the winery this week

Oak leaf wines These are a couple of recipes from way back. We hire a squad of trained monkeys from Edinburgh zoo, minimum wage, hey, theyre happy for the work. They pick loads of Oak leaves for us and we make a strong, sweet, green leaf tea with oranges and lemons mixed in, ferment them all together in the tank then top it with a run of elderflower. Very easy drinking, fruity and aromatic. Thank you monkeys.

Spring oak leaf, medium sweet, 13.3% Soft as a mattress, the soft kind. Juicy fruity, it blooms and sparkles fragrantly as it meanders its way gracefully over and down to you know where (your stomach)

Autumn oak leaf, medium dry This is a drier, less fattening version, all soft focus, poetry and theological discussion by the fireplace in slippers, or giving vent to fits of mirth over something Stephen Fry said, or similar.

    SparkliesOak and Elder, medium, 12.5%

A crackling oak leaf and elderflower wine that Judith and I first made for our wedding 100 years ago, ouch, why is it always the same shin? Still going strong apart from a couple of little niggles.

A tasty wine. I like it with my tea. Try with seafood or smoked salmon.

Incidently if youre thinking of getting married or even staying married, the Oak and Elder is what you should be having, its better than boring old, you know who.

Strawbubbly, medium sweet, 11% A delicious blend of strawberries and elderflowers This creation came about when Judith took to blending the strawberry wine with our non alcoholic elderflower in order to beat me at backgammon on a Friday night. The flavours worked well together and certainly seemed to give her an advantage so she kind of blended it up permanent like. Ill be back! Ive got her on chinese chequers though (raspberry full strength)

Braes o Gowrie This isnt alcoholic at all. Its elderflowers picked by desperate illegal immigrants from the Sidlaw hills then hand stripped by country style maidens on their thighs. Works a treat. Mildly hypnotic.

Cider, dry, 5% The only true Scottish cider made from the famous apples of the Carse of Gowrie & nearby.

Wild elderberry, rich and fruity, 13.3% Just the sweetest little thing, bounding with rich flavours like

a deer bounding over the fields after being surprised by a man with a gun but it was only a stick. Dry at the end like a w
