three grades, each with seven classes of about forty students. Takada High School has a 140-year
history, and the school has produced quality graduates all over the country. Takada High School
aims to develop future leaders with intelligence, physical and mental strength, and strong will.
School Motto 第一義 Dai Ichi Gi
The school motto Dai Ichi Gi originally comes from a Buddhist term and
literally means “first principle”.
In the age of provincial wars in Japan, Uesugi Kenshin ― a feudal
warlord who ruled over Niigata and is a historical hero in Joetsu ―
made this phrase his cherished motto.
People today believe that Dai Ichi Gi means that humans should
treasure not material things but the heart and compassion. Students at
Takada High School are encouraged to find their first principle to enrich
their lives and future.
