Welcome to our school! Takada High School is located in the southwestern part of Niigata Prefecture. The high school has three grades, each with seven classes of about forty students. Takada High School has a 140-year history, and the school has produced quality graduates all over the country. Takada High School aims to develop future leaders with intelligence, physical and mental strength, and strong will. School Motto 第一義 Dai Ichi Gi The school motto Dai Ichi Gi originally comes from a Buddhist term and literally means first principle. In the age of provincial wars in Japan, Uesugi Kenshin a feudal warlord who ruled over Niigata and is a historical hero in Joetsu made this phrase his cherished motto. People today believe that Dai Ichi Gi means that humans should treasure not material things but the heart and compassion. Welcome to our school!

Takada High School is located in the southwestern part of Niigata Prefecture. The high school has

three grades, each with seven classes of about forty students. Takada High School has a 140-year

School Motto 第一義 Dai Ichi Gi

The school motto Dai Ichi Gi originally comes from a Buddhist term and

warlord who ruled over Niigata and is a historical hero in Joetsu ―

School Life

Classes Classes begin at 8:55. There are six 55-minute lessons. Takada students take courses

in: Art, Calligraphy & Music / English / Health & P.E. / Home Economics /

Information Science / Japanese / Mathematics / Biology / Chemistry / Physics /

History / Geography / Civics / Integrated Study

Lunch Time Students bring their own lunches to eat with their friends. Bread is available for

purchase during lunch time.

After school After the sixth period lesson, at 15:50, students participate in cleaning the school.

Senior students can take elective classes, while other students participate in club

activities.

Holiday Classes are held Monday through Friday. There are special Saturday lessons held

several times a year. On holidays, students can join club activities, or spend time at

home.

Two Courses

○ General Course

The General course is designed to develop academic and life

skills necessary for students to become leaders in a wide range of

fields in the future. In this course, students find rich

opportunities to exploit broader topics, acquire proficiency in

various fields and sharpen their intellect. By taking advantage

of the wealth of opportunities at Takada High School, students

acquire the skills necessary to craft successful career and future.

Every year the majority of graduates confirm their studies at

various universities to make their dreams come true.

○ Science Course

The science course aims to educate students who have a

special interest in science and will take leadership roles in

science and technology in the future. The course includes

research, fieldwork, experiments, science tour, and so on. The

curriculum is designed for students to acquire science-specific

ability as well as comprehensive knowledge and skills. Many

graduates go on to take medical, science, technology and

agricultural coursework at the university level.

SSH (Super Science High School)

Takada High School was designated as SSH by Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and

Technology in 2013, and started a special educational program focusing on science and global

education. In the program, students have more chances to have scientific experiments, presentation

training in English, critical thinking training, thesis research, and so on.

History

1874 The school was founded as the fourth branch of Ni igata Publ ic School .

1900 Reorganized into Ni igata Prefectural Takada Junior H igh School .

1904 30th Anniversary Ceremony was held and the school song was written .

1948 Reorganized into Ni igata Prefectural Takada High School .

1950 Takada High School became co -educated, admitting f emale students for

the f irst t ime.

1963 90th Anniversary Ceremony was held and the new school building was

completed.

1995 Sc ience Course started. A 65-minute lesson began.

1999 Semester system began.

2007 The school ’s current buildings were completed.

2009 A 55-minute lesson and tr imester system began .

2013 Takada High School was designated as SSH (Super Science High school )

by Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Sc ience and Technology .
