Lenten Outreach Project: Due to the great generosity of many parish members, a check for $1,584.00 was sent to Heifer International for its

Knitter's Gift Basket, which includes 4 "fuzzy friends" (a llama, an alpaca, an angora rabbit and a sheep). These animals provide wool or fiber prod-ucts and other valuable resources to help the poor in our global family to

have a better quality of life and a more promising, secure future. The cost of each Knitter's Gift Basket is $480.00, so our Lenten almsgiving activi-ties will cover the cost of 3 such baskets, with some extra funds for other livestock resources. Thank you for your generosity and God bless you!

BANNS OF MARRIAGE II Jill Dirksen & Alex Emenhiser

The Musings of Our Pastor

"Spur-of-the-moment" activities can often resonate with many flavors or signs of virtuous behavior, if we choose to allow them to do so. Hindsight allows me to think of one example of the truth of this, which evolved in my life not so long ago. On Saturday, March 30th (the weekend for the parish celebration of Confirmation), around 9:30 in the morning a call came in from Bishop Timothy Doherty to inform me of several things. First of all, no Mas-ter of Ceremonies (a Deacon), would be coming along with him for the cele-bration of Confirmation. A Master of Ceremonies often works with the Bish-op and the Altar Servers to make sure the Mass moves along in an orderly and prayerful fashion, to the best extent possible. The Bishop said to me on the phone: "You and I will make it work!" The second thing the Bishop shared with me on the phone was that he would be traveling to Muncie on Sunday afternoon, following the Confirmation festivities, in order to visit the funeral home and pay his respects to Fr. Tom Metzger, in light of his father's recent death. Hence, the Bishop, who started his trek to Holy Trinity very early in the day on Sunday, amidst the rising sun from the East, plus snow and challenging road conditions, would be "on the move" for a good portion of the afternoon and into the evening. In a "spur-of-the-moment" decision, I rooted around in my freezer and found some home-cooked ham, which I pulled out to thaw. After breakfast and before the 7:30 Mass on Sunday morning, I "threw together" a fruit sal-ad, cut up some broccoli, opened up a can of pork and beans, and set my kitchen table for two, just in case the Bishop might be interested in some lunch before he headed off to Muncie. At some point before the Confirma-tion Mass, I mentioned to Bishop Doherty that I had a simple, humble lunch available, if he would like some nourishment before leaving Trinity later on. Without hesitation, he not only accepted the invitation, but he expressed appreciation for some substantial nourishment in the midst of day's journey. After allowing ample time for pictures with the newly-confirmed and so-cializing with families during the reception, the Bishop and I sat down in the quiet of my kitchen for the enjoyment of some pretty simple food and some pretty wholesome, light-hearted conversation and fellowship together. I sensed quite clearly how much the Bishop valued the gesture of thoughtful-ness, the spirit of hospitality, the humble service and sacrificial love, all fla-vored with virtue and goodness, which fueled this rather "spur-of-the-moment activity. It was not required, requested or even necessary, but for both of us it was a very "graced moment", which wrapped up the Confirma-tion festivities in a restful and refreshing manner. As we head into the Summer Season, please try to appreciate the so-called "spur-of-the-moment" activities. They truly may be "graced mo-ments", which can often resonate with many flavors or signs of virtuous be-havior, if we choose to allow them to do so. Whenever embraced and used appropriately, these "spur-of-the-moment" activities can enrich our own lives or the lives of others with joy and other refreshing or life-giving things. With hindsight, think about some such activities in your personal experience, and give praise to God for the fruits of virtue and goodness you managed to dis-play in these endeavors, which became wonderful avenues of God's bless-ings to others. May God bless you. Have a safe, healthy and refreshing summer! —Fr. Ken
