PVPV/Rawlings PTO’s mission is to collaborate & communicate with administration, teachers, staff, parents, students & community partners to coordinate school activities and events that help bridge the gap in funding while promoting a sense of community.

There are three ways we raise funds: Membership: no overhead—the easiest way to raise money for our school.Fundraising: Fun Fund Run & Spring Carnival. Only two major events and we need your help on both.Community Partners in Education: Mutually beneficial partnerships with multi-year contracts.

Fourth Grade CurriculumWriting

• Writing to brief prompts is being replaced by writing in response to the reading of several 2 rigorous texts. Students will then be asked to support their response with the text.

• Example in your packets

• The score point will most likely be a 4-point scale as opposed to the 6-point scale

• The writing assessment will now be administered in grades 4, 5, 6, 7, 8, 9, 10, and 11

• Pearson integrated into Language Arts

• Grades can be taken for both reading and social studies

• DBQ: Document Based Questioning- Use of primary and secondary sources giving students the opportunity to investigate history from a variety of perspectives.

• Students will participate in two class battles during Media Resource Classes in January and February. Students will receive scores for these battles.

• Students must read and take the AR quiz to receive credit for reading the SSYRA book. (AR score must be 60% or higher to pass. One quiz retake is permitted during Media Resource Class if necessary)

• We will add the number of SSYRA books read and passed to their battle scores.

The 5 highest scores will make up our class team. In the event of a tie, we will average AR test scores for the SSYRA books read.

Example: Class Battle Score from round 1 = 25Class Battle Score from round 2 = 21

Number of SSYRA Books read = 15Student Score = 61

School Team Selection ProcessAll students from the winning class teams of each grade level will compete to represent our school at the district battle. 5 Students and 2 alternates will be selected for our school team.

How to help your child:

Check the student planner daily

Help your child be an advocate for their learning-encouraging them to ask their teacher questions

Encourage your child to read

Help your child set up a scheduled time to work on homework, study for tests, or read for recreational reading

Look through your child’s binder to help keep them organized

Please remove items that can stay home (Newsletters)

Set up a place in the house to keep school related items
