Happy New Year Doral Explorer Families! It is amazing to
think that 2016 is already behind us. What a fun and ex-
citing year it was! Our faculty and staff closed out De-
cember with continued hard work and hands-on learn-
ing. Our 3rd graders observed as a monarch caterpillar
changed into a chrysalis and eventually a butterfly! Our PE classes stretched
as they strove to maintain their physical health… AND our 5th and 6th grade
classes took advantage of our Science Lab and conducted chemical reac-
tion experiments! With all of this hard work, the Doral Explorers also took some
time to enjoy the season with family, friends, and good music. Winterfest was a
big hit, and we had a number of musicians visit us in December. We can’t wait
to see what 2017 has in store for us!

Welcome to 2017! We hope everyone had a wonderful holiday break
with family and friends. It is amazing to realize that half the year is already be-
hind us. With that being said, it’s time to resume working diligently towards our
goals. FSA tutoring is being conducted as scheduled and our school-wide FSA
Crunch Plan will begin to take effect soon! More information to come!
This month, we have very important dates to remember! On January 16th
and 23rd there is no school. Additionally, January 24th marks the first day of
the third academic quarter. Students, please remember to do your best so that
you are able to earn honor roll. Finally, the week of January 24th through the
27th we will be celebrating our annual “National School of Choice”
week. Throughout the week, our students, teachers, and parents will receive
special rewards and treats in order to celebrate being part of a school of
choice! In closing, let’s continue to work together to help our Explorers succeed
in all that they do. Parents, remember to help students arrive on time for the
morning bell in order to be prepared for the day ahead. We are confident that
with your partnership as parents, our students will continue to meet and ex-
ceed their academic goals this school year!

Mrs. Marchal’s 6th grade Spanish classroom was full of creativity during
“El Show de los Talentos en Español.” The students developed different
activities and performances related to a high variety of different top-
ics. We saw magic tricks, puppet shows, Spanish songs and dances be-
ing performed, interesting science experiments, poetry recitation,
Legos creations, amazing gymnastic spectacles, origami sculptures,
and much more! The students worked hard for the audience, and all
of them enjoyed the event in Spanish class. We will have more Shows
de Talentos, as the first one was a success!

Thank you to our parents who help every
day with arrival, smiled through Winterfest
and completely outdid themselves with our
Book Fair. Though we do not have everyone
pictured, we would like to thank each and
every one who helped out.
Thank you to the Osorio Family! We are so
grateful to the phenomenal singer-songwriter,
Fernando Osorio, and his family for providing
holiday cheer to our Explorers during their lunch
before setting off for the holiday! Our students
just loved hearing them sing and play their in-
struments.
Thank you also to Ms. Eirini Tornesaki, a
professional singer from Cirque du So-
leil (she is pictured in the center).
Thank you Mr. Milesis for organizing
such a wonderful practice session, our
students loved it and they learned a
great deal about what it takes to per-
form their talents on stage!
A Big THANK YOU to ALL who make our school
such a special place to be!
