MINING• Mining is well known industry to India practised from ancient
times.
• India is endowed with rich mineral wealth.
- 52 minerals
- 3 Fuels
- 11 Metallic
- 38 Non Metallic • Value of production of minerals Rs.595, 093 million
- Fuel minerals Rs. 485, 475 million ( 81.6% )
- Mettalic minerals Rs. 38, 062 million ( 6.3% )
- Non-mettalic Rs. 19, 984 million (3.4%)
- Minor minerals Rs. 51, 571 million ( 8.8%)
LEGISLATION
• Liberalisation policy, 1991. • New Mineral Policy was announced in the year 1993. • Mineral industry opened to the Private Sector
- Domestic
- Foreign • Hitherto predominantly under Public Sector.• Further, various amendments brought in simplifying the procedure for
expeditious grant of mineral concessions.• Mining is a concurrent subject of Union and State Governments.• Policy by the Govt. of India
- implementation and grant of mineral rights by the State Govts.• Certain category of minerals, particularly, minor minerals are entirely
within the powers of State Govts.

• Minerals are the property of the State even if occurring in Pvt. Lands.• Transparent procedure prescribed, first-cum-first served basis for grant
of mining leases.• Mining Lease is preceded by Prospecting License. PL holder will have
the priority for grant of ML.• The grant of ML is minimum 20 years and maximum 30 years.• Eligible for 2 renewals of 20 years each on satisfactory performance
unless mineral deposit is exhausted.• Royalty to the Govt. on certain percentage of advolrem ranging from
2 ½ to 10% varying from mineral to mineral. Barytes 5.5% of sale price
on advolrem.
Barytes Mining & Marketing• India leading producer and exporter and ranks Second in the world.• Country’s Reserves – 85 million tonnes• Andhra Pradesh accounts for 95% of the reserves.• Mangampet deposit is the single largest in the world containing
about 70 million tonnes contributing

- ONGC, Oil India : 200 thousand tonnes
- Barium Chemical Industries : 200 thousand tonnes• Domestic consumption may go up with the Private Sector in oil well
drilling like Reliance.

• Has the potential to meet export and Domestic domestic demands.
• Low grades ( C&D ) amenable for beneficiation .
• Need for improving the logistics
