Welcome to Fellowship Christian School,

As a parent you are faced with a vety important responsibility, the education of your child. You

may ask yourself "what is a successful education?". "How can I measure my child's progress?"

and "What do /look for in a school?"

Education in itself does not guarantee a successful career nor the ability to thrive in a complex

and competitive world. At FCS we believe that education goes beyond preparing our children

for a career and self management. Education affects the whole person and thus needs to be

holistic, encompassing growth in multiple areas: intellectual, spiritual, emotional and physical.

We believe that teaching and role modeling are most effective when the Family, the School and

the Church work together. At FCS we evaluate the progress of each individual student and

encourage them to grow in their God given skills and gifts to

their fullest potential.

Our success is achieved when our students leave for High

School strengthened academically and rooted in Christian

values with a heart soft towards God.

On behalf of the

Board of Directors,

Trevor Long, Principal

"The end then of learning is to repair the ruins of our first parents by regaining to know Him aright, and out of that knowledge to love Him, to imitate Him to be

like Him." John Milton

Biblical Principles for Parents to Consider

The education of children and youth must have as its primary goals the salvation and discipleship of the next generation. (Matthew 28: 19-20 I Psalm 78:6-7)

The education of children and youth must be based on God's Word as absolute truth. (Matthew 24:35 I Psalm 119:89 I Isaiah 40:8) What a child is exposed to Christian or non Christian will have an effect on their mind and heart. The effect will either soften or harden their heart towards God. It may callous them so they view sin as more "normal". It may harden them so they care more about the things of the world and less about God. It may desensitize them so they are more comfortable living in the midst of repeated sin against their Lord.

The education of children and youth must hold Christ preeminent in all of life. (Colossians 2:3 I Luke 11 :52 I Colossians 2:6-1 0) The Bible teaches that there is no neutral ground or actions - everything is either for or against Christ. (Matthew 12:30)

The education of children and youth results in the formation of lifestyles and worldviews that will be patterned after the belief systems or worldviews of their teachers. (Luke 6:40 I Philippians 4:9) God tells us that what goes in through the eyes and ears will affect a person. (Luke 11 :34)

The education of children and youth must have a view of the future that includes the eternal perspective. (Colossians 2:1-2 I Matthew 6:19-21 I Hebrews 11:13 I 2 Timothy 4:6-8 I Acts 20:24)

School is where we learn how to think. It is where we learn how to work and relate to others and influence the world. But, if that whole process excludes God's own viewpoint from Scripture for 12 years (40 weeks per year, 1200 hours per year for a total of 14,400 hours of our children's lives) our Christian witness grows accustomed to being mute.

"Christian Education is the study of God and His Creation through which He reveals His nature to the learner so that he can know Him and glorify Him."

Glen Schultz

"but bring them up in the nurture (paideia) and admonition of the Lord." Ephesians 6:4b If we are called to live out our lives as disciples of Christ, we must follow in His footsteps and walk the path before us. Our children must do the same. There are no options. The path is difficult and following it is fraught with danger and opposition. So we must prepare our children as best we can and equip them with as many tools as possible so that they will not be afraid and they will not get lost or distracted. They will walk the path with courage, integrity and wisdom.

At FCS we are confident and excited that we have chosen the Christian and classical approach to address the needs of our students, which is the cultivation of wisdom and virtue by nourishing the soul on the true, the good and the beautiful, by means of the Holy Scriptures and the seven liberal arts, so that in Christ the student is better able to know, glorify and enjoy God.

Today's Challenges: "Fathers and mothers have lost the idea that the highest aspiration they might have for their children is for them to be wise... Specialized competence and

success is all they can imagine." Allen Bloom

"Is not the great defect of our education today ... that although we often succeed in teaching our pupils "subjects," we fail lamentably on the whole in teaching them how to think: they learn everything, except the art of learning."

Dorthy Sayers

"Education without values, as useful as it is, seems rather to make man a more clever devil."

C.S. Lewis

The Remedy

"We don't even know what skills may be needed in the years ahead ... We must train our young people in the fundamental fields of knowledge, and equip them to understand and cope with change . ... We must give them the critical qualities of mind and durable qualities of character that will serve them in

circumstances we cannot now even predict." John Gardner

"The entire object of true education is to make people not merely to do the right things, but to enjoy them, not merely industrious, but to love industry; not merely learned, but to love knowledge; not merely pure but to love purity; not

merely just, but to hunger and thirst after justice." John Ruskin

"Isolating the student from large sections of human knowledge is not the basis of a Christian education. Rather it is giving him or her the framework for total truth, rooted in the Creator's existence and in the Bible's teaching, so that in each step of the learning process the student will understand what is true and

what is false and why it is true or false." Francis Schaeffer
