Attraction in Scotland 2013 Welcome to...

EdinburghThis is your guide to some of the best places to visit in and around one of the most beautiful and vibrant cities in Europe.

Using this Guide...We’ll give you the lowdown on some of the things to see and do; shops, attractions, restaurants, bars and cafes, accommodation and plenty more - all you have to do is explore and enjoy them!

For simplicity, we’ve split the guide into five sections; attractions, tours, speciality shops, eating and drinking, and accommodation.

Edinburgh, beautiful, brilliant and breathtaking...Ok, so we might be biased, but we reckon it’s one of the most perfect cities in the world.

Now you’ve probably heard of A Tale of Two Cities, but here, in Edinburgh, it’s more A Tale of Two Towns. The medieval Old Town contrasts sharply with the Georgian splendour of the New Town, making for a stunning experience - it’s no surprise it was declared a World Heritage Site.

But that’s not the only way the city can be split into the old and the new. Edinburgh might be steeped in history, but it definitely doesn’t live in the past. Modern and cosmopolitan, it’s got plenty to offer. If you’re willing to delve a little deeper below the surface, you’ll find a city that’s alive with culture and excitement.

Of course, no stopover in Scotland’s capital is complete without a trip to the magnificent Edinburgh Castle, which dominates the city skyline, or a wander down the famous Royal Mile, but just remember, there’s plenty more to discover besides. The National Galleries of Scotland comprises three galleries in Edinburgh, each home to a world-class collection of art alongside award-winning cafes and shops.

The compact nature of the city means you can explore at your own pace - getting around on foot is fairly easy, and it gives you time to soak up the real Edinburgh. While it might not be the biggest of cities, we’ve certainly packed a lot in.

Don’t forget to explore beyond the city limits for the perfect day out! To the south you’ll find much to interest you in the historic villages, and along the scenic coast. And to the immediate west of the city, Queensferry is a delightfully unspoilt conservation town in a spectacular setting beneath the magnificent bridges that span the river Forth.

Have fun!

Speciality ShopsShopping in Edinburgh isn’t like most other cities, thanks to a mix of big brands, top designers and one-off boutiques.

For your favourite high street names, make tracks for Princes Street. One street up, George Street is home to a host of upmarket stores, and for designer labels the nearby Thistle Street and Multrees Walk are hard to beat.

If you’re after something unique or quirky, then your best bet is to try the Royal Mile, Grassmarket, West End Village, Morningside or Stockbridge, where you’ll find a range of independent retailers.

Here are some ideas to give you some inspiration.
