Last Week’s Meeting

Rotary International initiated a Satellite Club pilot for the period of 2011-2016. It worked , has shown success and is now a part of RI's club types. Our club has approved sponsoring one to be chartered this year. So, why did we need them? And, what are the differences ?? "Feedback from numerous Rotary surveys and focus groups has repeatedly shown that prospective Rotary members require flexibility in their Rotary club membership." (RI, 2011) The purpose of the Satellite Club program is to accommodate changes that have occurred in our professional environments, in family structures, and in personal commitments. Why a Satellite Club

After members were presented belated perfect attendance pins, it appears that Mark wants to second term as president, and is prepared to do almost anything to achieve his goal. Following his presentation on MS and the planned walk in Charlotte County, Nick is pre-sented a certificate by President Bob for the Imagination Library. President Bob shows the fine article in the sun featuring our 60th Charity Quiz Challenge and Rick Zander won the 50-50, much to the surprise of Jose.

Crushing hopes that Africa could soon de declared polio-free, Nigeria announced two children have been paralyzed by the disease two years after the country’s last case. Both polio cases were diagnosed in Nigeria’s Borno state where militants, including Boko Haram terror-ists, have attached health workers, making it difficult to vaccinate children and monitor residents for signs of polio. Health workers have been killed in Nigeria and Pakistan while trying to vaccinate chil-dren. Liz Szabo

President’s Message Today is a special day, our District Governor’s Official Visit. Until 1915 Rotary did not have Districts. That year, at the San Francisco Convention, Rotary was divided into 10 districts. Each was to have a District Gover-nor. The first Rotary Club in Southwest Florida was Fort Myers in 1922, sponsored by Lakeland, originally Dis-trict 8. The International President at that time was Crawford McCullough of Thunder Bay, Ontario, Canada.

Punta Gorda Rotary was sponsored by Fort Myers in 1929, then District 39. RI President was Tom Sut-ton of Tampico, Tamaulipas, Mexico.

Charlotte Harbor was formed by Punta Gorda in1980, chartered under Rotary International President James Bomar, of Shelbyville, Tennessee with the theme Let Service Light the Way. We were part of District 696; in 1994 we added a zero and became District 6960.

Please welcome Governor Ladd who will tell us about President John Germ and Rotary Serving Humani-

ty.

Invocation May each of us assembled here today enjoy the many offerings of Rotary. May we abide by the rules we have established – those of trust, fellowship and ethics. May we place Service Above Self, in our daily endeavors.

May we always test ourselves and our efforts to be sure they are the truth, good for all concerned, of benefit to mankind, and provide peace and understanding. Amen Sherry Penfield

Today’s Speaker Hired as Rotary International Chief Financial

Officer in 2000, Ladd served as Secretary for his club in Illinois.

Moving to Florida in 2006, he joined Lakewood Ranch, serving as Club President and Area 10 Assistant Governor. He is a sustaining donor, multiple Paul Har-ris Fellow and member of the Bequest Society.

As a CPA, he has worked as for hospitals, a lib-eral arts college, a hospice and Rotary International. He has served Easter Seals of Southwest Florida as Chief Financial Officer and Executive Director.

He and his fellow Rotarian Sally have four chil-dren and seven grandchildren. In his spare-time he en-

joys gardening and golf.

The FOUR-Way Test of the things we think, say or do: 1. IS IT THE TRUTH? 2. IS IT FAIR TO ALL CONCERNED? 3. WILL IT BUILD GOOD WILL AND

BETTER FRIENDSHIPS? 4. WILL IT BE BENEFICIAL TO ALL

CONCERNED?
