Notes From Mrs. MizellDear Parents,

As principal, the most important thing I do is to provide our students with the best teaching staff possible. The teachers are highly qualified and are committed to the success of all students. With the Common Core Standards, we are dedicated to integrate technology into your child’s education: iPads, computers, and use of Promethean Boards. Our teachers have on-going professional development throughout the year; instructing with the latest research proven strategies.

I encourage you to stay in contact with your child’s teacher. When parents and teachers communicate and work together, your student’s academic performance will be more successful. We invite you to visit our school, join in our celebrations, attend rise and shine on Friday mornings, and come eat lunch with your child. With the support of the community, parents, teachers and students, we will work collaboratively to help each student reach their potential.

We at Central care about your child and want to make a positive difference in their life. Second semester is a busy time. We are working toward all achieving the scores of 3s and 4s in reading, math and writing. Students should be read to or read independently for at least 20 minutes each night, have a good supper, and have a consistent bed time. If you have any concerns, questions or comments, please feel free to contact me.

Kindergarten Registration for the

2015-2016 school year is on Friday, April 24, 2015, beginning at 8:00 a.m.

Kindergarten students for the 2015-2016 school year

must turn five years old on or before August 1,

2015. Parents should bring a copy of their child’s shot

record, birth certificate, social security card, and proof of

a physical exam from a doctor within the past two years.

During March and April, students participate in state testing. Their hard work and perseverance will pay off as they show what they’ve learned this year.

Make it the best day possible by:• Picking out a comfortable outfit to wear

• Setting your alarm clock so that you do not oversleep.• Going to bed on time – or even early – so that you get a good night’s sleep and

feel rested when you wake up in the morning.• Making sure that you have time to eat a good breakfast. Eat healthy foods

that will give you plenty of energy.• Leaving for school or the bus stop a little early so you are sure to get to

school on time. • Remembering that school starts at 8:00 a.m.

Spring Break would be a great time to take your student to the public library!

Reading and Writing:We are getting closer to TESTING SEASON!!!!! We are

starting our Test Prep Unit in both Reading and Writing. In these units, we are teaching the students what the PARCC

exam will look like, how to answer open response and multiple choice questions. We will be analyzing reading passages looking

for the main ideas and supporting details. In writing, we will look at different types of writing (narrative, fiction, essay,

poem) and then going over how to answer them!

Math:We are reviewing multiplication!! This unit, we are working at finding fair shares (fractions,

such as ½. 1/3, ¼, etc.) and working with decimals!!

A HUGE shout out to our students that are reading EVERY night for at least 20 minutes!!! Thank you to the parents that are

signing those Million Minute Reading Logs!!!

4th Grade

working on goal setting.
