Home (School) Visits• Home (School) visits are offered to new children joining our school.

• Due to social distancing rules, and to reduce the risk of spreading coronavirus; we will be organising visits to the school instead of in your home.

• Children already in Campsbourne Nursery will get the opportunity to meet their reception teacher. Their current nursery teacher (Fiona) will also have a handover meeting with your reception teacher.

• Our plan is for school home visits to take place during the week beginning

7th September.

• During this time your child will be able to explore their new classroom and play with some of the toys available whilst you meet with the class teacher to discuss your child's interests and needs.

• This will be for 30-45 minutes.

Settling In

• On their first day your child will be shown where to hang their belongings on their named coat peg and will then have an opportunity to explore the indoor and outdoor areas and enjoy playing.

• Ideally you are more than welcome to come into the classroom to help them settle but due to Covid 19, we will review this closer to the time.

If you are concerned about how your child is settling in please speak to a member of staff straight away so we can discuss how to adapt the process to support your child.

Forest School

• Forest School is an inspirational process, that offers ALL learners regular opportunities

to achieve and develop confidence and self-esteem through hands-on learning experiences

in a woodland or natural environment with trees. Forest School is a specialised learning

approach that sits within and compliments the wider context of outdoor and woodland

education.

• Our reception teachers are Forest School practitioners.

• Children enjoy Forest School sessions every fortnight. Sessions last approximately 1 hour.

They start in the autumn term.

How do I know how well my child is doing?• Every child has a focus week once a term.

• During this week or soon after, parent consultations take place.

• The class teacher will speak to you when it is your child’s focus week and arrange a time for you to meet.

• You will also receive a written report outlining your child’s strengths and developments at the end of the academic year.

Reading Books and Phonics

• Your child will be learning the letter sounds in Reception.

• During the autumn half term a book is sent home each week to read with your child.

• Please remember to bring your child’s book bag every day so that they can choose a book to share with you at home.

• As soon as children begin blending sounds confidently we also send home a first reading book each week for them to practise. A reading record is provided to enable feedback between parent and teacher.

Books are changed once a week. Spending time reading with your child every night makes a huge

difference and we strongly encourage you to do this even if it’s only for 5

minutes. Book bags cost £6.50.

Partnership with Parents

• It is very important that home and school communicate well and keep each other informed about situations that may affect your child. If something has happened at home it would be helpful to know so that we can understand any changes in your child’s behaviour. Equally, if something occurs at Reception, we will let you know.

• We welcome parents and carers help in Reception at any time as this is a great way for parents to share experiences from different home cultures. Please let a member of staff know if you would like to come in.

Attendance and Punctuality

• If your child cannot attend school because of illness,

please phone the school office.

• If your child has been vomiting or has diarrhoea allow

48 hours recovery before bringing them back to school.

This helps prevent such viruses spreading to other

children.

• If your child is showing symptoms of coronavirus, seek medical advice and inform the school immediately.

• Attendance at school is vital to your child’s education and development. At this early age it is also about creating good habits. Children who get use to not coming to school every day often struggle later on when the expectation is that they are in school every day.

• Children are expected to arrive at school on time. School starts at 8.50am and finishes at 3.25. Please be prompt to avoid any anxiety for your child and if you are running late, please call the school office.

• Should you wish your child to be collected by a relative or friend, you must notify the teacher in the morning and provide a special password for the relative or friend to use.

Illnesses and Accidents

• All nursery nurses have first aid training and the.

• If your child is taken ill, you will be notified by phone. It is essential that the office always has an up to date mobile phone number so you can be contacted in the event of an emergency.

• These are recorded online with text messages sent home to inform parents.

• If your child has a pre-existing medical condition, you will need to fill in a care plan; providing details about the ailment, the medication and dosage. This needs to be updated each year. All medication MUST be prescribed by a doctor. Asthma pumps must be prescribed and supplied in a labelled box.
