Course Description and Goals:
• We will learn how to think scientifically as we learn about life.
• We will learn the basic parts of cells, as well as how cells function as a greater unit to produce life, as we know it.
• Emphasis will be placed on genetics, ecology, and human body systems.
• We will also be exposed to the diversity of life.

VOCAB CARDS FORMAT:PICTURE: FUNCTION/DEFINITION:
HINTS: IS NOT:
OBJECTIVE: identify the unique properties of water.
PROBLEM: how many drops of water will fit on top of a penny?
HYPOTHESIS: ____________________PROCEDURE:• Create a data table to record the number of drops
for three pennies.• Obtain three pennies, an eye dropper, and one
small beaker of water.• Slowly add drops of water to the penny and count.
Do this until it finally overflows off the penny.• Record your data. Calculate the average number
for your three different pennies.• Collect the averages from at least two other
groups in class.• Create a graph comparing the number of drops a
penny will hold. (think carefully about the type of graph you should use…)
QUESTIONS:1. Was your
hypothesis correct or incorrect? Explain.
2. What property of water allowed for the drops of water to stay on the penny?
3. Were there any sources of error in our experiment? What could we do differently next time?
BIO AGENDA: 9.25.12JOURNAL #141. List and explain at
least 2 reasons water is an important substance in biology.
2. What is the pH of an acid?
3. What is the pH of a base?
• PLEASE HAND IN VOCAB CARDS FROM YESTERDAY!!!!
• DROPS ON A PENNY activity• MYTHBUSTERS…
• OBJECTIVE: I can ID key differences between acids & bases
