Class: The class can earn puzzle pieces for exceptional behavior. When they complete a puzzle they will be rewarded with a class incentive.

•One 10-hour module created by PLTW (Project Lead the Way) offered to Kindergarten, Third grade and Fifth grade.

STEM with Mrs. Durigon

• While working through the PLTW modules students collaborate with each other to create a solution to a real-world problem. Students must use their knowledge of science and math concepts, operate educational apps on iPads , and utilize an engineering design process throughout their work within the module.

As citizens of 3Y we discussed our rights and responsibilities. Then we wrote our own class rules and agreed to follow them.

Desk Organization• Students are responsible for their

work & materials• All papers & projects are kept in

flat folders – Homework (purple)– School (*student’s choice)– Writing (green)– Math (red)

Homework Policy• Homework is the first

communication tool with families. • Homework is going to be a little

different this year. We are working toward students taking ownership of their own learning.

• Third grade students should spend about 30 minutes on average to complete homework assignments.

Birthdays• I like to recognize your child’s birthday.• If you send a treat, PLEASE send a note in prior to the

day.• On the birthday, send everything necessary for the

treat. (napkins, plates, spoons, etc.) • CUT any cakes or cookie cakes BEFORE you send it to

school.• We have 21 students in our class and 3rd graders are

only permitted to deliver treats to the other 3rd grade teachers.

• We do have several allergies. Please no nuts or peanuts.

• We celebrate summer birthdays at the end of the year.

Reminders • Conferences—will take place in November

10th —sign-up tonight! Take a post-it to remember the time you selected.

• Morning Tutoring—by invitation on Tuesdays and Thursdays starting in October.

• Wellness Walk will be held October 2nd —all MVES donations come back to our school

• Your child is “fishing for a compliment.” Please take a moment to fill out a fish note for your child. You may hide it in their school folder or place it in their mailbox.

• Homework is the first communication tool.

• Families are involved in assignments.

• Be sure to take home the xtra math & thinkcentral directions for home use.

• Fill out “Parent Homework” sheets & Homework Buddy Sheets.
