– We will be spending approximately one day per week, dedicated to filling out App’s and other admission related work

• 2nd semester- pay for college– We will spend our time researching and

applying for financial aid along with completing the steps required for admission

UC Educational Opportunity Program(EOP)

• Provides admission and academic assistance to first-generation college students or students demonstrating a history of being from a low-income background

• In many cases, the program offers financial assistance to eligible students

• When completing admission application, check “yes” for EOP- Students must complete regular application first

• Complete family information section on parent education, language spoken in home and income

• Complete FAFSA or Dream Act Application

• Information included in personal statement also determines placement in EOP: student should mention if first in the family to pursue a higher education

Impaction & Eligibility IndexAll CSU’s use the Eligibility index to

determine who get accepted

Of the 23 CSU Campuses, 15 are impacted and require higher Eligibility Index scores (2900 is the minimum)

This higher score may be campus wide or based on major

Bakersfield, East Bay, Channel Islands, Dominguez Hills, Cal Maritime, and Stanislaus are NOT impacted.

Information Needed for Applications• Social Security #: if applicable. Students who have received

Social Security #s through Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA) should not use the numbers.

• Family income & size: 2013 family income and 2014 estimated family income, plus the number of people in the household (parents & dependents), are required of students applying for application fee waivers and the Educational Opportunity Program (EOP).

• California residency information: to establish California residency, students will need to supply the month/year they and their parents arrived in California if they have ever lived outside of California.

• Citizenship status information: students must enter a country of citizenship (or “none”). If country of citizenship is outside the United States, they will need to provide immigration status and visa type/date issued.

• College appropriate email (CHECK this REGULARLY!!!)

PIN.GOV• This is where you sign up for a 4-digit

number that is used to “sign” electric documents such as FAFSA

• Each individual student needs their own personal PIN number

• Parents will also need their own separate PIN number

• Parents who have already completed a FAFSA or another tax document SHOULD have their own PIN number

have fee waivers (Nov)

• $100 Intent to Register Fee for campus attending (May 1, 2014) Not ALL CSU’s require this

• $200-$500 for Student Orientation cost (May)

• Up to $500 Housing Deposit (April-June)

Get a Jump Start on the FAFSA• Visit www.pin.edu.gov so that student and

parent/guardian each get a pin number. Make sure to keep pin in a safe place! This is the only way to “sign” on-line documents

Financial Aid for Undocumented Students

California Dream Act:

•AB 540: Undocumented students who have been in a CA high school for more than 3 years and/or graduated from a CA high school are eligible for in-state tuition fees

•AB 130: Allows AB 540 students to be eligible for private institutional scholarships beginning January 1, 2013

•AB 131: AB 540 students are eligible for CA state aid: Cal Grants, EOP, beginning January 1, 2013

•Complete California Dream Act Application no earlier than January 1, 2015 and no later than March 2, 2015

Upcoming Events!!!

• College information day @UC Berkeley Saturday 10/4/14 from 8:30-1:00 over 60 public and private colleges will be there providing information

• SLHS College night Monday, October 13th 2014 from 6-8. This is Mandatory for 12th AVID students!!!

• CSU Stanislaus + CSU Sacramento field trip on 10/2/14 (Next Thursday)

• We would like to plan 1-2 additional college field trips

• UC Santa Cruz + CSU Monterey @end of October (Permission slips/donation requests soon)

• SF State + visit to the offices of Pinterest (tentative for end of November)

• No Chaperones/Donations= NO GO…
