What to Expect in the Next Three-ish Weeks...● Freshmen Kit
○ Lots of stuff! Each class will let you know what you need on a case by case basis
○ WACOM Intuos Pro Drawing Tablet. We will start using this around Week 4 or 5
● Intro to Animation
○ You will use your cell phone and/or your webcam to make your first two projects
○ We encourage you to download Stop Motion App (there is a free version on the Google and App
Stores)
■ https://www.cateater.com/ (this is the full version, ranges from $5 to $10)
○ ToonBoom Storyboard Pro and Harmony, free to all CCAD Students (PLEASE make sure to follow
the directions on the PDF! Don’t try to download it without following the instructions). We will use
Storyboard Pro around week 4 or 5
○ AutoDesk MAYA and Substance. We will use these around Week 7 or 8
What to Expect in the Next Three-ish Weeks...● Intro to Animation Continued:
○ Textbook for Class:
■ Cavalier, Stephen. The World History of Animation
■ You can order a copy: https://ccad.ecampus.com/
■ Or, you can “locate” a copy…
What to Expect in the Next Three-ish Weeks...● If this wasn’t a unique time in human history, you would be required to purchase
a WACOM Grip Pen for use in the labs
● If we are back to campus in Spring 2021, you will need to get a WACOM Grip Pen
○ Maybe a nice back-to-school gift for Spring?
What to Expect in the Next Three-ish Weeks...● Email
○ Check your CCAD GoMail every day
● GoStudio
○ GoStudio is your portal to all of your classes
○ You will turn in your assignments on GoStudio
● Syllabi
○ Each class will have a Syllabus posted at the top of the page. The calendar in the syllabus is a
starting point for planning out the semester. DO NOT print this calendar! Instead, get into the
habit of checking your class GoStudio page for dates and deadlines.
● LibGuides
○ Each major has a dedicated Librarian and Resource Page!
What to Expect in the Next Three-ish Weeks...● Advice from CCAD Alumnus Dan Scanlon: “Start your assignment the
day it is assigned. Get the project done [in the next day or so] and
turn it in.”
● As faculty, we see lots of students who wait to start a project because they are
afraid that a better idea will come along. This is a recipe for heartbreak.
● In Animation and Game Art & Design, the average amount of time you should be
spending on an assignment is: 2.5-3 hours of outside work per project, per week
○ For example: if you have an assignment in a class that is due in two weeks, then you should expect
to spend 5 to 6 hours on “homework” time.
What to Expect in the Next Three-ish Weeks...● Deep Breath! Things might get a little chaotic
○ Stay in contact with your faculty... If you feel overwhelmed, reach out to them
■ All Faculty have Online Office Hours (directions on how to schedule a time will be listed on
your class GoStudio page)
■ Email them! We are on our email everyday during the week
● If you email / contact a faculty over the weekend, you might not get a reply until early
Monday (especially if you send the email after 5pm on a Friday)
○ If you have a question about registering for classes, your academic advisors are here to help!
○ If you need to talk to someone privately, your counseling and wellness staff are here to help!
■ If you are worried about a classmate, the counseling and wellness page has a referral button.
Always error on the side of helping. You just never know what someone is going through.
