Prayer Before Mass

Come Holy Spirit and quiet my heart and my head, as I gather with my friends and neighbors to celebrate Mass. I am saint and sinner. Open my ears to Your words. Open my mouth in prayer and song. Open my eyes to see your mystery in symbol and sign. Open my

heart in love for You and my neighbor. Quiet the thoughts and distrac ons that will keep me from prayer. Strengthen me to take the Mass into my life this week. Amen.

Notes from Fr. Joe Wormek

I want to thank you for your generosity to our parish and to the special collec ons. Last weekend we had our final call at church for people to pick up their Annual

Catholic Appeal card to make a dona on or a pledge. This annual appeal is for the services which the parishes alone could not do by themselves. We have personally received grants in the last two years. This year’s grant was $25,000 for front doors for the church and $20,000 last year for redoing the parking lot behind the grade school. Again, no gi is too small. Of course I would like if every household in the parish would give a dona on or a pledge to the annual campaign.

During last weekend the transi onal deacons were ordained for our Archdiocese and the men will be ordained to the priesthood at the end of this month. Do you pray daily for voca ons to the priesthood and religious life? I know some mes people are thinking we at Borgia have three priests so the situa on must not be too bad. We are the only parish in Franklin and Warren County who has an associate pastor, Fr. Freddy. Of now, Fr. Kevin is living with us too. We have to count our blessings. This year we will be having four men ordained to the priesthood. It will help, but more is really needed. There are 188 parishes and there are more senior-aged priests than younger priests. Thus please pray for voca ons

Your Pastor,

Fr. Joe Wormek

Parking Info for next Sunday, May 21st

Steward Reflection “The stone which the builders rejected has become the corner-

stone.” 1 PETER 2:7

Everyone is given unique gi s. Many people are able to recog-nize their talents and abili es, but there are many people who are unsure of their gi s. This may make them feel worthless. If you know someone who is struggling for a direc on in life, give them a li le encouragement. Help them discern how they might use their skills. No gi is too small or insignificant.

Respect Life Apostolate crea ve wri ng contest finalists from SFBGS

Each year, eighth graders from throughout the Archdiocese are asked to respond to the topic: Explain why living the virtue of chas ty protects us from abor on and blesses us with true holiness, health and happiness. Their hope is that by learning and wri ng about this issue it will help teens to make good choices in these areas. Two students are chosen from each school as finalists in the contest. They are then invited to a end an Awards Assembly at the Cardinal Rigali Center where Archbishop Carlson acknowledges all winners for their efforts with a cer ficate. In addi on to these cer ficates, four $1000 scholarship winners are announced. The two students shown here are Meredith Obermark and Grant Kanlbinder represen ng St. Francis Borgia Grade School. They received special recogni on at the ceremony because their essays fell in the top 10% of all eighth graders in the St. Louis Archdiocese.

THE WAY

Today we sense the apostles' trepida on as they begin to realize that the Lord would soon be leaving them. In their fear, they ask, "Master, we do not know where you are going; how can we know the way?" (John 14:5). Jesus tells them that he is the way. The Easter season has been a me of growing in Easter faith so that we, too, may learn to know that Jesus is the way. We can take comfort in the Lord's promise that he is going to his Father's house to prepare a place for us, his chosen people who have been called out of dark-

ness into God's wonderful light. As the paschal candle con n-ues to burn during this holy season, let us remember that in bap sm we were given the light of Christ. With Christ our light as the beacon ligh ng our way, let us march toward the glory of Pentecost.

Eucharis c Adora on

There is a dedicated group of men and women currently staffing 24-hour adora on in our church from 7:30 am Tuesday un l 6:45 am Wednesday. Occasionally a person is unable to be present for their assigned hour. It would be a big help if a small group of people could have

their name and phone number on a “stand-by list” to help them out occasionally by being available when they are unable to a end. There is a double bonus a ached to this ministry. First, you are partaking in an act of charity. Second, you are making yourself available to spend one-on-one me with Our Lord. It’s definitely a win-win situa on. Please contact Deacon Leon at 636-221-1531 for more informa on.

Kyra’s Corner

C.R.E.W. Christ’s Renewed Engaged Warriors Our final high school faith sharing night for this year will be Monday evening May 15th. We invite all of our teens to meet at Notre Dame Hall by 6pm. We will hang out for a while and then head to Orange Leaf.

Parish School of Religion

The Parish School of Religion concluded their school year Wednesday, May 3rd. The children and their parents gathered for a closing prayer service led by Fr. Joe. All the students came forward by grade and shared what their meaningful memories from this school year were.

The 8th Grade were honored in a special way. We presented to them a cer ficate to remind them that while they have successfully completed their elementary faith forma on, this does not mean they will stop growing in their faith. They were officially invited to join the high school faith sharing group of the parish called C.R.E.W. We pray for these young Catholics as we do for all the youth of our parish.

Thank you so much Blessings Kyra

St. Vincent DePaul St. Francis Borgia and Our Lady of Lourdes parishes have always shared the community outreach. We host the Food Pantry and Our Lady of Lourdes organizes the St. Vincent de Paul outreach ac vi es. We have many volunteers for our Food Pantry who are members of Lourdes. We have asked them if we could assist with the St. Vincent de Paul outreach and they eagerly agreed. If you are interested in helping in that capacity, please call Norma Roth at 636-239-3520.
