November 6, 2016 Thirty-Second Sunday of Ordinary
Welcome to St. Jude the Apostle Catholic Church · Jacksonville AR 72076
CYCLE C NOVEMBER 6, 2016
32nd SUNDAY IN ORDINARY TIME
"Those who are deemed worthy to attain to the coming age and
to the resurrection of the dead neither marry nor are given in
marriage." Jesus' response to the Sadducees regarding their
question about the resurrection of the dead actually raises
another question for us: what about marriage in heaven? We
understand marriage to be "until death do us part," but what
exactly becomes of this special relationship in the afterlife?
Pope Francis gave a homily on this Gospel passage in which he
discussed the mysterious transformation that will take place for
those who enter into the joy of heaven. The Holy Father tells us,
Jesus explains that "life after death does not have the same
parameters as our earthly life. Eternal life is another life, in
another dimension where, among other things, there will be no
marriage... The life that God prepares for us is not a mere
embellishment of the present one: it surpasses our imagination,
for God continually amazes us with his love and mercy" (Angelus,
November 10, 2013).
An interesting interpretation of this comes from Fr. Raniero
Cantalamessa, the Preacher of the Papal Household, who said
"marriage does not come to a complete end at death but is
transfigured" (Homily, November 10, 2006). Catholic author
Stephen Ray described it this way in a letter to his mother who
was grieving the loss of her husband: "We cannot understand our
new spiritual bodies and heavenly existence any more than a
caterpillar can comprehend what it will be like to be a butterfly.
We cannot anticipate how personal relationships will flower in
glory any more than [an] acorn can anticipate standing 50 feet
tall." Whatever it will be, we can trust it will be wonderful!

If you know of anyone who is deployed please call the office so we can add them to the list. Thank you Major Steffanie Jebb, 1st LT Jared Rieathbaum, MSG John Paul Jebb, SrA Brian King, Capt Kate Hrynyk
Thank you so very much for your generous donations to the Ladies of the Knights Bus Token Campaign. These tokens will help our homeless
veterans seek employment, search for housing and make other appointments in the community. Our veterans appreciate the little things we do for them.
Air conditioning in the church: The air conditioning system is hard at work keeping our church cool so please dress comfortably for Mass. If you are cold natured, we suggest bringing a jacket or sweater with you. There is no way to easily adjust the temperature during Mass or maintain a constant temperature in all areas of the church. The blower is essentially on or off, and when it is off, the church becomes warm rather quickly, especially around the altar. Thank you for your understanding.
*** Sick or Homebound If you have a family member who is ill, in the hospital, or homebound who would like to receive communion, please have a family member call the office at 982.4891. We will arrange for one of our many wonderful people to come and visit and bring communion.
*** You Did It for Me The “dry corridor” extends through parts of Central America including Guatemala. With the warming El Nino winds last year, more farmers were left with smaller harvests. Not only that, the warmer temperatures made it easy for a fungal diseAse known as coffee leaf rust to kill crops. Thanks to Catholic Relief Services’ support, farmers are moving crops up the montain for cooler temperatures and learning new ways of combatting the fungus on their crops. *** Next week our parish will take up the Collection for the Archdiocese for the Military Services, USA (AMS). The AMS relies solely on private donors in support of its mission, “Serving those who serve” and its ministry to provide the same pastoral care and services to Catholics serving in the United States Armed Forces, enrolled in U.S. Military Academies, undergoing treatment at any of the 153 Department of Veterans Affairs’ Medical Centers, working in civilian jobs for the federal government beyond U.S. Borders, and the families of these populations, as does any other Catholic diocese. While the Salaries and retirement of Catholic military chaplains are paid for by the U.S. Government, the AMS receives no funding from government or the military for its programs and services, including the Co-Sponsored Seminarian Program, which provides priests for home dioceses and for the military chaplaincy. To learn more about AMS go to www. Milarch.org/nationalcollection.
*** Do you know what to do with an old and frayed American Flag? The United States Flag Code, Title 4, Section 8k states: “The flag, when it is in such a condition that it is no longer a fitting emblem of display, should be destroyed in a dignified way preferably by burning.” Flag Retirement is the term used to define the proper and dignified way of destroying
United States flags that are no longer fit to serve the nation. The 4th Degree of the Knights of Columbus is a group called the “Assembly.” Their special mission is “Patriotism.” There will be an official Flag Retirement Ceremony For any
and all deteriorated and worn out US flags on Friday,
November 11, at 10am outside the Knights of Columbus
building (108 N. First Street Jacksonville, AR 72076.) The
Assembly invites all parishioners and their family who would
like to witness this patriotic process to attend. If anyone has an
old, tattered, frayed flag, which no longer has the “dignified”
appearance it used to, is welcome to bring it and the Knights
will respectfully retire it for you. This is also an excellent time
to introduce children to a patriotic activity.
