Title I Annual Parent Meeting
1. Define Title I and Title I School Funds
Purpose of Title I: • To help low-achieving students meet the state’s challenging academic content and performance standards
• To offer a variety of services including additional teachers, support staff, extra time for instruction, and variety of materials.
Title I is a federally funded program under the Elementary and Secondary
Education Act

• Coffee High School establishes a Parent Advisory Committee to help provide suggestions/recommendations and advisement on all matters related to parent involvement
• A school-wide plan has been developed based on the needs assessment completed in the Spring of 2013.

opportunities for regular meetings to formulate suggestions and to participate, as appropriate, in decisions about the education of their children
14. The school must respond to any such suggestions from parents as soon as practicably possible

HOPE ProgramHOPE Scholarships Georgia's HOPE Scholarship is available to Georgia
residents who have demonstrated academic achievement. The scholarship provides money to assist students with their educational costs of attending college in Georgia.
HOPE Zell Miller Scholarship Graduate from an eligible high school with a minimum 3.7
grade point average combined with a minimum score of 1200 on the math and reading portions of the SAT test or a 26 composite score on the ACT test in a single test administration OR
Graduate from a HOPE-eligible high school as the Valedictorian or the Salutatorian.
HOPE GRANT - Georgia's HOPE Grant (a separate program from the HOPE Scholarship) is available to residents of Georgia who are attending eligible colleges or universities in Georgia to earn a certificate or diploma regardless of high school graduation date or grade point average. However, continuing education programs are not eligible. Beginning in the Fall 2011, the HOPE Grant Award Amount will cover a portion of a student's tuition.Full-time enrollment is not required, but you must be making satisfactory academic progress to maintain eligibility.

To receive HOPE Scholarship/Grant funding, students must:
1. Be a legal resident of Georgia2. Meet Academic Achievement standards required by the
program or the college3. Be in compliance with the Georgia Drug-Free
Postsecondary Education Act of 19904. Meet HOPE’s U S citizenship or eligible non-citizen
requirements5. Be in good standing on all student loans or other financial
aid programs6. Not have exceeded the max award limits for any HOPE
program7. Meet enrollment requirement8. Attend an eligible Georgia school

Extras Credit Recovery – to recover credit
in courses previously failed, with a grade of 60 – 69.
Dual Enrollment – students receiving credit at the high school and post secondary school.
Joint Enrollment – students who attend high school fulltime and take classes at post secondary school in the evenings. They only receive post secondary credit.
Move on When Ready – juniors and seniors who are enrolled fulltime at post secondary institutions. Students earn high school and post secondary credit.

Graduation Requirements Continued:
A total of 3 Units of CTAE, Fine Arts and/or Foreign Language. (Students planning to enter or transfer into some university system of GA institutions must take 2 units of the same Foreign Language).
6 additional electives for all students.
A Minimum of 26 Total Units Required to Graduate from CHS.
Honor Grad Requirements Must complete 2 of 4 academic
pathways in the honors program. (AP’s are not required)
Only top 4 grades in each area will be used.
Must maintain a 90 average to be an honor grad… no rounding up
Must NOT post any failing grades in any subject
GEORGIA HIGH SCHOOL GRADUATION TEST and END OF COURSE TEST
Classes of 2014All students seeking a Georgia high school diploma must pass the Georgia High School Graduation Test (GHSGT) or End of Course Test in all four content areas as well as the Georgia High School Writing Assessment. EOCT exam counts 20% of final grade.

GEORGIA HIGH SCHOOL GRADUATION TEST
Students take the graduation test for the first time in the eleventh grade. The Writing Assessment takes place in the fall. The GHSGT in English Language Arts, Mathematics, Science, and Social Studies will be given to students in the Class of 2014, if needing to pass a subject area for graduation.
Students who do not pass on the first attempt of the tests have
multiple opportunities to receive additional instruction, retest, and qualify for graduation before the end of their twelfth grade year.

Students who do not meet all the graduation requirements are not eligible to participate in the Graduation Ceremony.
There is a NO PASS, NO WALK Policy.
ATTENDANCE Coffee High School students have
only 3 days to bring in a note from parents or a doctor for an excused absence. After 3 days the absence will be deemed unexcused.
Work may be made up from an excused absence within three school days (Student is responsible for making arrangements with teacher).
ATTENDANCE Students who miss more than 8
absences from school and/or any class per semester WILL NOT receive credit for those classes unless granted by an appeals committee.
Parents and Students are required to attend Appeals process.
20 or more absences student can NOT appeal for class credit
Joshua’s Law It is a bill that changes the requirements that teen drivers must meet in order to obtain a
Class D driver's license starting on January 1, 2007. To get a Class D driver's license at age sixteen (16): You must have completed a driver education course
approved by the Department of Driver Services and You also must have completed a cumulative total of at
least forty (40) hours of other supervised driving experience, including at least six (6) hours at night. This form must be notarized.
If you have not completed an approved driver's education course, you cannot get your Class D driver's license until you reach age seventeen (17). Remember, forty (40) hour of driving experience, including six (6) hours of driving at night, is always required for a Class D driver's license.- plus the Certificate of Attendance.
Certificate of Attendance A Georgia DDS Certificate of Attendance (DS – 1)
form must be signed and notarized by your school. It is only valid for 30 days. If not attending school, applicants under the age of 18 must provide a GED diploma, high school diploma, or proof of enrollment in college. Students enrolled in an approved home school program must present a Certificate of Attendance form from the local Board of Education.
To qualify for a Certificate you can NOT have more than 9 unexcused absences or one of the five discipline actions in the current or previous school year.

January 21 at 6 PM. Ms. Carol Ann Lott
from Georgia Finance Commission will give a presentation on how to complete the FAFSA form.
We will also have representatives from South Georgia College, Wiregrass Technical College and Concerted Services available for you to talk with that evening.
