Explain the term “Seal of Confession” ?

The confessor’s obligation to keep absolutely secret what a penitent has told to him in the Sacrament of Penance also known as the Sacrament of Reconciliation or simply Confession. This “Seal” can also be referred to as the “Sacramental Seal”. The Catechism of the Catholic Church Paragraph # 1467 says: “Given the delicacy and greatness of this ministry and the respect due to persons, the Church declares that every Priest who hears confessions is bound under very severe penalties to keep absolute secrecy regarding the sins that his penitents have confessed to him. He can make no use of knowledge that confession gives him about the penitents’ lives. A Note from the Administrator...

¡Paz, Todo Bien! Padre Mike

Dear friends, For many years now a group of parishioners have met every Monday morning to make rosaries for the missions and last year alone more than 4,000 rosaries were sent to Africa and the third world countries. They also make rosaries for the minis-tries, hospitals and prisons in our own country. Although the expense of making the rosaries is kept at a minimum, since they’re assembled here, there is a cost involved … and Ed Gomez has come up with the perfect way to cover it. Any of you with used statues, crosses, rosaries or other reli-gious articles no longer in use … are invited to drop them by the parish office. These will be put on display after morning Mass on the third Sunday of each month where the Knights of Columbus have their coffee and doughnuts. You’ll be welcome to take what you like … and to leave a free will offering of any size to help cover the cost of making mission rosaries. A good recycling project, no?

On another note, please join me in congratulating Fr. Emmanuel --- who became a US citizen last Wednesday. He came back from the ceremony beaming, and was greeted with confetti and a marching band!

Peace, All Good! Fr. Mike
