Spinks-Kanitra House201 West Greene Street - Top Left
The earliest record of the house is a deed recorded in 1846.Sometime before 1900, when the property was acquired by theMary Leila Cotton Mill, other rooms were added. Laura andPaul Kanitra purchased the home in 2007, and the couple has
opened The Potted Geranium Tea Parlor and Gifts.
The Old GaolEast Greene Street - Top Right
This granite structure has two foot thick walls, two stories and a trap door above the entry. Condemned prisoners were hungabove the trap door and dropped to their death. The buildinghas remains virtually unchanged with its castellated roof-line
and sloping stone walls since its completion in 1807.
The Episcopal Church of the Redeemer303 North Main Street - Bottom Left
The current church building was completed in 1868. The designof the church is Carpenter Gothic, featuring the unusual curved
roof and intricate beam-work of that style. The window behind the altar is mullioned handmade stained glass.

The original portion of the house was built about 1824. In 1854when the Greensboro Female College was built, this home
became a college dormitory. It is said that the renowned authorof Little Women, Louisa Mae Alcott, taught at the school.
