the organising Committee warmly welcomes all delegates to Coloproctology 2014!

the topics in the scientific programme for Coloproctology 2014 have been carefully selected to include common colorectal problems encountered by colorectal and general surgeons in daily practice. A whole spectrum of colorectal diseases – from perianal disorders, colorectal emergencies, colorectal cancers to inflammatory bowel disease – has been covered. All these will be deliberated in plenaries, symposia, panel discussions and “How I Do It” session.

the Allied Health professional programme has also been structured to address the important areas relevant to the nursing, enterostomal and supportive care of patients with colorectal diseases.

As usual, there will be a pre-congress workshop where eminent overseas and local surgeons will demonstrate interesting operations live. Furthermore, there will a post-congress workshop on inflammatory bowel disease to be held in collaboration with the Malaysian Society of gastroenterology and Hepatology.

For postgraduate trainees, there will be the annual postgraduate rounds which many postgraduate as well as undergraduate doctors have found to be very useful in the past.

A special feature in the programme is that, for the first time, the Malaysian Society of Colorectal Surgeons is concurrently running a symposium jointly with the Colorectal Cancer Survivorship Society of Malaysia. the idea for this symposium was first mooted by Dato’ Dr Meheshinder Singh. the objective of this symposium is for the Malaysian Society of Colorectal Surgeons to work with the Colorectal Cancer Survivorship Society of Malaysia to address healthcare and other relevant issues pertinent to survivors of colorectal cancer.

the Best poster Award is for the best original scientific or clinical paper submitted by young surgeons in Malaysia for presentation at the Coloproctology 2014. this award will hopefully encourage a high standard of research and scientific presentations among young surgeons.

THe PrizeTHe Prize

there will be three (3) Best poster Awards:

1st prize – rM1,000 2nd prize – rM750 3rd prize – rM500

regulaTionSregulaTionS

1. the competition is open to all young surgeons and surgical trainees currently working in Malaysian institutions who are below 35 years old as on 1st January 2014.

2. the work submitted may be from any surgical specialty, and it may take the form of clinical trials, surveys, retrospective studies, laboratory experiments or any other form of unpublished original work.

3. the bulk of the work which are submitted must be performed by the author himself/herself even though he may have done the work in conjunction with other doctors or agencies either locally or overseas. However, the work must be carried out in Malaysia.

4. the author must submit a signed declaration of his/her age, that his/her paper has not been published or presented elsewhere and the presenter has done most of the work.

5. the abstracts for poster presentation are to be submitted online at www.colorectalmy.org.

6. the closing date for receipt of abstracts is 31st January 2014.
