What is the 2nd Transcript?The 2nd Transcript is an official attestation that formally recognises and rewards students’ involvement and achievements in recognised extra-curricular opportunities at Taylor’s University.

As of December 2014, it is endorsed by 20 top employers in Malaysia*.

The 2nd Transcript supports Taylor’s Core Purpose of educating the youth of the world to take their productive place as leaders in the global community and its 2016 Mission of becoming Top Employers’ Top Choice university.

The 2nd Transcript is also benchmarked against the highly regarded employability awards around the world.

How can the SHINE Award Benefit You?Employers are increasingly looking for individuals who are not only equipped with industry-specific knowledge, but also possess soft skills that will enable them to function effectively in the workplace.

Hence, the SHINE Award Programme provides a platform for students to develop future work skills through out-of-class activities, and gain the proficiencies and abilities that are required across different jobs and work settings.

Learning Package 1 (LP1) allows you to acquire self-management skills and learn to be a value-driven and emotionally resilient lifelong learner.

Through this package, you will be able to discover your strengths and weaknesses, and clarify your values and goals in life. You will also develop emotional intelligence that will help you to survive and thrive in university and beyond.

e-Portfolio: Showcasing Your SHINE Journey

We want you to showcase and present your achievements in the 4 learning packages of the SHINE Award Programme through an e-portfolio, a digital platform for you to document your learning, reflect on your experiences, and articulate how these experiences have shaped you.

Building your e-portfolio is an excellent way to pinpoint on the valuable and defining experiences that highlight your university experience to future employers, thus helping you to establish a personal brand.

In order to apply for a SHINE Award, you are required to submit an e-portfolio and make an appointment with the SHINE Award Centre to present your e-portfolio. You will need to attain a minimum of 90 points for your e-portfolio in order to qualify for the SHINE Award.

How to Create an e-Portfolio?If you need help getting started on your e-portfolio, please check the SHINE Portal for e-portfolio workshops that will give you practical tips on how to develop your own e-portfolio. We recommend using Wix or Googlesite as your e-portfolio platform.

How does the SHINE Point System Work?Under the SHINE Award Programme, you will be able to claim points for your involvement in every recognised project or event. Your overall achievement in the programme will also be measured by the amount of points you accumulated and specifed activity requirements for each LP.

Understanding the SHINE Point System

All recognised activities accrue points based on the 4 compulsory principles ( Principles 1-4) and/or 2 achievement-based principles (Principles 5-6). SHINE points are given in increments of 5 points per event.

For each event, points are given based on the 6 following principles. Activities under the Empowerment Series carry a pre-determined amount of points. n.b. Principles 5 & 6 are only applicable to certain types of activities such as competitions, conferences, etc

Principle 1 Holistic capabilities In order for a project or an event to be recognised, you must demonstrate its value to your holistic development by indicating which TGC it develops.

Principle 2 Location Domestic and international projects or events will be accorded different points.

Principle 3 Duration Points will commensurate with the duration of your involvement in the event.

Principle 4 Role Different points will be given for different roles played in the event or project. Attendees or participants of an event will accrue less points than organisers or organising committees of an event

Principle 5 Prestige Events and projects held at different levels (e.g., varsity, state, national, international) will be accorded different points.

Principle 6 Achievement Points will be given based on your level of achievement.

Types of Recognised Activities

*The SHINE Award Programme DOES NOT recognise any activity that contributes towards your academic credits or is a part of your required academic coursework.

In order for an event or project to be recognised, you need to prove your participation in the event or project. Accepted proof of participation include: certificates, pictures, communication documents (letters, e-mails etc.). If you do not have any of the above, you can download the “Activity Declaration Form” from the portal and have it validated by the organizer of the event.

Activity DescriptionCampaigning activities Projects that champion and raise awareness for a specific cause through

various activities (e.g: exhibitions, games, performances, workshops etc).

Competitions Any event where there is a contest and an award/prize is given to individuals or teams based on achievement of excellence or merit. Excludes popularity contest and games at funfairs or carnivals.

Conferences Platforms that allow educational and intellectual dialogues among participants (e.g: professional, academic and leadership conferences).

Exhibitions (non-competition) Expos, roadshows, showcases, and fairs where students set up booths to display their own works or their team’s work. Excludes exhibitions that carry a competitive element.

Festivals, celebrations, and performances

Cultural and non-cultural events involving dance, music, performances, and any celebratory activities. Includes orientations and social events that aim to bring students together.

Field trips Site visits that take place off campus for discovery and exploration purposes.

Learning camps Camps that are relevant to personal, leadership, professional and spiritual development.

Peer-Assisted Learning Services (PALS)

Peer Assisted Study Session (PASS) and Peer to Peer (P2P) student leaders can claim points for their service after every semester.

Study Trips Extended trips during which students conduct on-site study or project related to their field of study.

Voluntary activities Charitable projects that benefit the community and the environment for which no monetary compensation is received.

Work experiences Any full-time or part-time work experience carried out while you are enrolled as a student at Taylor’s University. Includes all services rendered as student helper or student ambassador

How do I get the SHINE Award?

Everyone who enrolls in the SHINE Award Programme and completes the compulsory Empowerment Series and achieves the points and activity requirements specified for Experiential Opportunities in each Learning Package will be eligible for the SHINE Award.

The SHINE Award has 3 tiers:

A. SHINE Silver AwardTo be eligible, you will need to accrue a minimum of 1100 points as follows:

SHINE Core Empowerment Workshops 360 SHINE Experiential Opportunities 650* SHINE e-Portfolio 90 *No less than 100 points for each LP.

B. SHINE Gold AwardTo be eligible, you will need to accrue a minimum of 1500 points as follows:

SHINE Core Empowerment Workshops 360 SHINE Experiential Opportunities 1050* SHINE e-Portfolio 90 *No less than 150 points for each LP.

C. SHINE Platinum AwardTo be eligible, you will need to accrue a minimum of 2000 points as follows:

To ensure a holistic SHINE learning journey, you are also required to fulfill certain activity requirements under each LP in order to qualify for the SHINE Award.

SHINE Portal

We have designed an online portal to help you manage and track your SHINE learning journey.

How do I Activate my SHINE Portal Account?Upon receiving the confirmation e-mail, follow the simple steps below:

1. Go to the SHINE Portal at https://shine.taylors.edu.my

2. Log in with your Taylor’s ID and password

E-Portfolio Requirements

- Must submit an e-portfolio worth a minimum of 90 points 3 months before graduation

- Must book a SHINE e-portfolio interview summarising your SHINE learning journey and its highlights in relation to holistic development. (Length of presentation is max. 15 minutes with Q&A)

LP 4 Global Engagement:

- Complete global engagement activities of a min of 100 pts (experiences can comprise those undertaken abroad or Internationalisation- at- home activities)

LP 4 Global Engagement:

- Complete global engagement activities of a min of 150 pts (experiences can comprise those undertaken abroad or Internationalisation- at- home activities)

LP 4 Global Engagement:

- Complete global engagement activities of a min of 200 pts (experiences can comprise those undertaken abroad or Internationalisation- at- home activities)

3. Complete the TSAT questionnaire

4. Go through the step-by-step tutorial

5. Complete your profile page. This includes updating your personal information, uploading your picture, and filling in your “Mission Statement” and “Goals”.
