YHS Volleyball Meeting Aug. 12The Yankton High School volleyball program will have an orga-

nizational and parent meeting on Thursday, Aug. 12, at 5:30 p.m.in the YHS Commons.

City Golf Classic Aug. 28-29The Yankton City Classic Golf tournament will be held Aug. 28

and 29 at Hillcrest Golf and Country Club, and Fox Run GolfCourse.

The tournament is open to players ages 18 and over who havea Yankton mailing address as their residence and who are mem-bers of either Hillcrest or Fox Run. All players must have a USGAhandicap on the GHIN system by Aug. 15, 2010.

Men’s lower divisions will play at Fox Run Saturday andHillcrest Sunday. Men’s higher flights and women’s flights will playHillcrest Saturday and Fox Run Sunday.

Seniors (age 55 or older before Aug. 28) will be paired inmen’s flights. The senior champion will be decided by using grossscores.

The city champion may come out of any flight, and will bedetermined using gross scores. The last men’s flight will be playedwith net scores, as will women’s flights.

There is an entry fee, as well as trail or cart rental fees foreach course. The entry fee includes a party at Hillcrest onSaturday.

All entries must be received by Aug. 22. Deadline for refundswill be Aug. 24. If inclement weather requires a day of the tourna-ment to be cancelled, the championship will be reduced to oneday.

Booster Club Golf Tourney Aug. 15The Yankton High School Adult Athletic Booster Club will hold

its annual golf tournament Sunday, Aug. 15, at Fox Run GolfCourse in Yankton. The two-person scramble will begin with an8:30 a.m. shotgun start.

There is an entry fee, which includes the opportunity to winpin prizes on all 18 holes. Prizes and flights are determined by thenumber of entries.

Carts will also be available for rent, but must be reserved atleast one week in advance. Private carts will be welcome, but willbe charged a trail fee.

Geddes made one last threatin the eighth, as Ryan Paulsonled off with a double off the wall,chasing Eric Hames. But relieverJake Rausch retired the nextthree batters, stranding Paulsonat third, then retired the side inorder in the ninth to end thegame.

Heine had three of Wynot’s 10hits. Lee Heimes had a pair ofhits, including a home run. ScottHeimes also homered, and EricHortness, a pick-up player fromFreeman, added a pinch-hit dou-ble.

Paulson’s double was the loneextra base hit for Geddes.

“We couldn’t get anythingstarted,” said Geddes managerMike Slaba. “The few balls we hit

hard were right at somebody.”Eric Hames allowed just four

baserunners, two by hits, anerror and a walk.

“(Catcher) Drew (Lawrence)called a great game,” Eric Hamessaid of the outing. “I don’t think Ishook him off once. I kept themoff balance and let the defensework behind me.”

Gant went the distance in theloss, striking out four and walk-ing one.

“He gets stronger as the gamegoes on,” Mike Slaba noted. “Sowe didn’t get too excited whenhe gave up some runs early. Butif you don’t start fast against ateam like this, you’re going to digyourselves a hole.”

Geddes finishes with a 6-16record, while Wynot improves to27-5.

West won by scores of 10-2 and 10-6.In the first game, Alex Mueller and Bryan

Youngberg each had two hits and an RBI, whileMitch Huston also had two hits.

Alex Wagner pitched six innings and RobSchmidt went one inning.

In the second game, Yankton saw a 6-5 lead dis-appear as Sioux Falls scored five runs in the top ofthe seventh to win.

For the Black Sox, Chris Kanaly had two hitsincluding a triple to go along with an RBI. ZachBenjamin doubled and had three RBI, while Wagnerand Mueller both scored a run.
