Welcome to the Ashfield Civic Centre Activity Rooms.

Capacity The maximum capacities for each room are

All rooms: 130 people maximum.
The rooms can opened up onto each other, so
you can hire multiple or all rooms if you wish.
Main entry The main entrance to the activity room is through
the glass doors to the Ashfield Civic Centre on
Liverpool Road. Alternate access is via the side
entrance (after-hours access) opposite Westpac
Bank. Or by entering through the Library and
taking the stairs or lift down to Upper Ground
Floor. (UG)
General use Each group must leave the room in a neat and
tidy manner at the end of their booking. Cleaning
equipment is located in the kitchen. Tables and
chairs should be folded and stacked, and placed
in the corner. Groups that do not clean up after
their bookings, will have their booking monitored
and reassessed. In extreme cases, cleaning costs

incurred by Council will be deducted from the
group’s bond.
Cleaning equipment Cleaning equipment is located in the kitchen
cupboards. Please inform Customer Services if
any of the cleaning equipment is missing, broken
or inadequate.
Toilets and baby change Male and female toilets are located on Level 2
(lift and stairs access). An accessible toilet and
baby change facilities are also located here.
Operable walls Council staff will open and shut the operable
walls. We are aware of which groups need walls
open and closed. If you find that you need a wall
moved, please ask Customer Service. They have a
special handle which unlocks the walls from each
other. Do not attempt to move the walls by
yourself as they need to be locked and unlocked
together.
Maintenance and cleaning issues Please report any general maintenance and
cleaning issues to Customer Services. During
office hours, visit them at the front counter.

Kitchen rules All groups hiring the activity rooms are entitled to
use the kitchen facilities. You may use the
crockery and cups in the cupboards. Ask
Customer Services for the key if the kitchen is
locked. All groups must clean crockery and cups
using the (commercial) dishwasher provided,
which runs on a short cycle (2 minutes). Please
ensure that all crockery and equipment used is
returned to the cupboards after use.
Cleaning equipment is located in the cupboards
in the kitchen including a broom, dustpan and
brush, mop, bucket and vacuum cleaner.
How to operate the hot water system To operate the hot water system:
Step 1) Place your mug underneath the tap.
Step 2) Press in and hold the “Safety Switch”
located near the base of the spout.
Step 3) Press down (or pull up) the lever
“Boiling”, while pressing the safety switch.
How to operate the light switch To turn lights on: Quickly press button once.
To turn lights off: Quickly press button once.
To turn lights to dim (half-light): Hold button in
until lights dim. This setting is good for watching
videos or overhead projections.
Evacuation procedures In the event of a fire or other emergency, you will
need to exit the building immediately via the
emergency exits. These are located next to the
elevators (near Room 1), at the back of Room 4
and between the kitchen and Customer Services.
Refer to the map at the end of this document.
If the emergency warning alarm sounds, you
must leave the building through your closest
emergency exit and make your way to the
assembly area, which is located outside the
Crocodile Farm Hotel.
Once you arrive at the assemble area, your group
leader should count the members to ensure no
one is left inside the building. Advise Council Staff
Fire Wardens (with a red, yellow or white hard
hat) that your group has evacuated or if you need
help.
You cannot return to the Activity Rooms until
NSW Fire and Rescue has advised that the
building is safe.
