Welcome to our next two weeks of Distance Learning, these weeks we will continue our unit called “Me

and Living Things”. In this unit, we will explore concepts of living things in our environment in

connection to ourselves.

In this packet we have outlined detailed instructions in both languages for each activity. You and your

student should be switching between both languages. For example, if morning meeting is in Spanish

the next activity is in English. Science must be taught in Spanish. Mathematics must be taught in

English (Videos of us teaching are found on the Drive)

We will be holding office hours for parent questions. During this time, only adults should be on the line

asking questions so we can problem solve together. We will also be hosting social hour. This is an

opportunity for you and your child to socialize with peers and teachers in order to continue to foster

our school family from afar. We have made some changes to the time during office

hours. Social hours will be 40 minutes and parent questions 30 minutes. Please

refer to page#3 to view our new schedule.

Bienvenidos Familias!!!

Bienvenidos a nuestras próximas dos semanas de aprendizaje a distancia, estas semanas

comenzaremos una nueva unidad llamada "Los Seres Vivos y yo". En esta unidad, exploraremos

conceptos de seres vivos en nuestro entorno en relación con nosotros mismos.

En este paquete hemos escrito instrucciones detalladas en ambos idiomas para cada actividad.

Usted y su hijo deben cambiar entre ambos idiomas. Por ejemplo, si la reunión de la mañana es en

español, la próxima actividad es en inglés. Ciencias debe enseñarse en español. Las matemáticas

deben enseñarse en inglés (los videos de nosotros enseñando se encuentran en el Drive)

Tendremos horas de oficina para preguntas de los padres. Durante este tiempo, solo los adultos

deben estar en línea haciendo preguntas para que podamos resolver cualquier problema juntos.

También seremos anfitriones de la hora social. Esta es una oportunidad para que usted y su hijo

Title: The Very Hungry Caterpillar

Before Reading, Today we are going to work on the skill (PK3.18b.T4 With support, pretends to

read, using some of the language from the text).

We will first listen to our teacher read the story.

Questions: What is the job of an author? What is the job of an illustrator? / Can you point to all of

the words on the front cover? Can you point to the pictures on the front cover? / Touch the front

cover, spine, back cover

As you read,

Pause video to allow your child to finish important sentences in the story such as “But he was still

hungry, On Monday he ate, what?……., and so on.

After you read,

Now that we finished listening to the read aloud it's your turn to read the story. Give your child the

book “The Very Hungry Caterpillar” and ask them to read the story. If you do not have access to

the book, play the video with the volume off. We do not expect our students to read the actual

words. This skill requires your child to pretend to read by describing what they see on each page

using familiar language from the story. Some Expectations: know that there’s an egg on the leaf,

the insect in the story is called a caterpillar, know some of the days of the week even if the

students say them out of order, know the names of the fruit/snacks, know the consistent phrase

“but he was still hungry”, the caterpillar builds a pupa around its body (we use pupa instead of

cocoon), at the end they should be able to say the caterpillar turns into a beautiful butterfly.

Hemos estado hablando de la importancia del agua hacia los seres vivos y al principio de esta unidad

aprendimos un poco de los ciclos. Aprendimos del ciclo de una mariposa, el ciclo de vida de una planta e

incluso hablamos del ciclo de los seres vivos. En la última clase de ciencias con Ms. Mirna aprendimos de

cómo nosotros utilizamos el agua. Por ejemplo: utilizamos el agua para bañarnos, para jugar, para regar las

plantas, etc. Yo después que jugué con las burbujas tire el agua en el concreto y al poco rato desapareció.

Después me pregunté ¿qué pasó con el agua que yo había tirado en el concreto? Como todo científico,

Ahora ya sabemos que el agua también se mantiene en su propio ciclo.

We have been talking about the importance of water on living things and at the beginning of the unit we

learned about the cycles. We learned about the cycle of a butterfly, the cycle of a plant and we even talked

about the cycle of living things. Our last class with Ms. Mirna we learned how we use water. For example:

We use water to take a bath, to play, and to water our plants, etc. After playing with bubbles, I threw the

water on the concrete and it disappeared after a while. Then I asked myself, What happened to the water

that I had thrown on the concrete? Like every scientist, I started investigating and this is what I learned.

Today our math activity is focused on the GOLD standard, PK3.21b.T4 Constructs basic shapes (Constructor of

Shapes from Parts). For this activity, ask your child to find objects that are shaped like a circle, square, and triangle.

Ex., plate (circle, coins), square (book), triangle ( clothes hanger). Name the shapes, provide a description of each

shape (a circle is round, a square has 4 sides that are the same size, a triangle has three sides that are the same size),

and then ask your child to name each shape. Click HERE to review shape names and descriptions. Next, use pencils,

crayons, coins, or sticks to construct the shapes of the objects found in your home. We have provided pictures of

shapes constructed from different items to help with how you can present the activity to your child. Draw a triangle for

your child if you do not have any objects at home shaped like a triangle. After modeling how to construct specific

shapes ask your child to do the same independently. CHALLENGE: If your child can name and construct all three

shapes consistently and independently, provide the opportunity to name and construct the following shapes,

rectangle, diamond, heart, star, and oval. Use the pictures of the colorful shapes to help with the challenge activity.

Ciencias - Science video Bienvenidos prek 3 de nuevo a nuestra clase de ciencias!

Canta conmigo: Es la hora de ciencias, es la hora de ciencias, es la hora de ciencias y vamos a

seguir aprendiendo de “El ciclo del agua”

La clase pasada aprendimos que el agua viaja en forma de ciclo, y hoy vamos a repasar como el

agua viaja. En este dibujo yo les muestro como se ve el ciclo del agua. Ya sabemos que un ciclo es

algo que se repite. Primero vamos a empezar con evaporación que es cuando el sol calienta el

agua de la superficie y hace que se convierta en evaporación. Después el agua se sube en forma

de evaporación se junta con muchas más gotitas de agua hasta que forma nubes. Esto se llama

condensación. Cuando las nubes son empujadas por el viento y se cargan de gotitas de agua y

muchas veces vemos que las nubes se ponen grises y es cuando empieza a llover. En otras

ocasiones cae nieve dependiendo de la temperatura. Este proceso se le llama precipitación. Yo se

que es un poco difícil de recordar todas estas palabras pero yo les voy ayudar a entender más a

fondo todo lo de el ciclo del agua. Hoy vamos a cantar una canción para repasar estas palabras

importantes. (vea la siguiente página)

In our last class we learned that water goes thru a cycle, and today we will review how water

travels. In this drawing I’m showing you how the water cycle looks. We know that a cycle is

something that repeats itself. First we will start with evaporation, this is when the sun heats up the

water on the surface and makes it evaporates towards the sky. Then, when the water ascends in

form of tiny droplets and gets together with more water drops until it makes clouds. We call this

condensation. When the clouds are pushed by the wind they carry water drops. Most of the time

the clouds turn gray and it starts to rain. In other cases, it snows depending on the temperature;

we call this precipitation. I know that it is a bit difficult to remember all of these words, but I will

help you understand the water cycle more in depth. Now we are going to learn a song about the

water cycle. (Refer to the following page.)

Thursday, April 30thToday our math activity is focused on the GOLD standard, PK3.21b.T4 Constructs basic shapes (Constructor of Shapes from Parts). For this activity, ask your child to find different objects from tuesday’s activity that are shaped like a circle, square, and triangle. Next, ask your child to name the shapes and then click HERE to review shape names and descriptions.

Next, model how to draw a circle, triangle, and square. While modeling use this language: “I’m now drawing a triangle, start at the top and slide down like a diagonal line, go back to the top touch the first line and slide down again, now go to the bottom and draw a line straight across like a horizontal line”. Repeat the same type of directions based on the next shape that you’re modeling. After modeling, ask your child to do the same independently. If your child struggles with drawing the shapes, allow the opportunity to trace the shapes provided on the next page and then ask them to draw the shapes without tracing.

CHALLENGE: If your child can name and draw all three shapes consistently and independently, provide the opportunity to name and draw the following shapes: rectangle, diamond, heart, star, and oval.

Escritura/ Writing Rociar la letra que encuentres!!

Vamos a escribir letras mayúsculas y minúsculas con tiza en el afuera de tu casa ya sea en una pared o

en la acera de tu casa. Vamos a utilizar un rociador de agua o una manguera o cualquier objeto que

tengas que pueda rociar agua. Puedes hacer este juego en competencia con un hermano(a) o un

familiar. Una persona que no esté compitiendo va llamar los sonidos de las letras y los participantes

van a rociar la letra con ese sonido. Puede cambiar el juego y en vez de llamar el sonido, llamar el

nombre de la letra y cuando la encuentran preguntar el sonido que hace la letra. El que lo rocíe primero

tendrá un punto y así sucesivamente. Que gane el mejor, diviertanse!

We are going to write some upper and lowercase letter with chalk outside weather is on a wall or the

sidewalks of your house. we are going to use a spray bottle with water or a waterhost or any other

object you may have that can spray water. You can play this game and compete with a brother or sister

or any family member. A person who is not competing with you will call out a letter sound and you will

quick spray the letter that makes that sound. You can switch to call out the name of the letter and the

players has to find that letter and say the sound. The first one to spray the letter gets the point and so

on and so forth. May the best one win! Have fun!
