CIS COMMUNITY NEWS

Spaces are still available for this session starting Wednesday

January 14. If you are interested in participating, please contact

Ms. Angie directly ([email protected]) by Tuesday,

January 13 in the afternoon.

LEGO NEEDED

To enhance the Lego club attendees experi-

ence we could use more Lego. If you have

any Lego that you are able to donate to the

school for clubs please drop them off with

Ms. Simoni or Ms. Sylma in the front of-

fice.

Many thanks for your assistance in advance!

Education is experiential and it should be

holistic, deliberately building values (such as

Service) in our children. We know that

there’s more to learning than a direct in-

struction lesson or a paper/pencil exam, and

that real-world experiences build under-

standings in meaning-

ful ways. CIS Service Week (occurring next week) aims to

facilitate reflection and purpose with our children, and in-

still in them the significance of service. Many thanks to Ms.

Tatum for all of her hard work in organizing these experi-

ences for our kids, and to all of the organizations who are

partnering with us to provide these opportunities.

in has also been improved. Club lists will not be posted outside

the office. The confirmation emails that you were sent include a link

CIS COMMUNITY NEWS con’t

Greetings and Happy 2015 to you ALL!

It’s been a great school year, so far, and we hope that you’ve enjoyed some of the various events and promotions that the PTA has organized, from the awe-

some Thermos water bottles, to the back to school BBQ, or the drop-off movie night and uniform swapping opportunities, we hope that you’ve partaken in at least one PTA event.

As we enter the second half of the school year, we do have a few more events coming up, please mark your calendars:

1) Jog-A-Thon (school-wide, Tuesday Jan 27th, during school hours)

2) Family Beach Party (Camana Bay Beach, Saturday February 21st, 3:30-6 pm)

3) CIS Ladies Night Out (Whisky Mist, Saturday Feb 7th, evening)

These events could not be made possible, without the help of parent volunteers, so we are reaching out to YOU, for help! If you’re interested in helping, in any way, please email April at: [email protected]. No task or amount of time that you're able to contribute would be considered too small!

Regarding fundraising, just a reminder that our goal is to promote school spirit and pro-vide community-building opportunities. Any funds that the PTA raises are used directly for these initiatives – and minor school enhancements – like; extra playground equip-ment, small monthly teacher appreciation, an annual school supply bonus for teachers and an annual scholarship essay contest for Grade 12.

We hope to hear back from you and look forward to seeing you soon!

Sincerely yours,

The PTA (April, Sherrie, Kirsty, Gisela, Leticia & Jeremy)

(**VIP Parking Space raffle tickets will be on sale soon...please be on the look-out!!)

A child is age appropriate for the 2015-16 Nursery program if they are 2 by October 1, 2015.

IB PROGRAM EXPANSION

As the Secondary School at CIS continues to grow in enrollment and programming, the International Baccalau-reate (IB) program is also expanding. Begin-ning in the fall of 2015, CIS plans to add two courses to the IB offerings, IB History and IB Music. Students in Grades 11 & 12 will have an option to focus on Geography or History in Group 3, and Art or Music in Group 6 as part of their IB studies.

CIS on the Move

The CIS Angler

Raegan R. reeled in her first big fish, a whopping wahoo weighing 56.5 pounds, over the winter break.

Raegan caught it on New Year’s Day while trolling off the south coast of Grand Cayman with her parents and her grandmother on board Sir Peanut.

Reagan pulled in the fish by herself, refusing help from anyone and landed it in about 25 minutes.

CAMANA BAY POOL IS OPEN!!

After a long wait and much anticipation we

are excited that the CIS Swim program is off

to a splashing start in the New Year! Classes

resumed this past week and by all accounts

everyone is thrilled to be back in the pool!

CIS is fortunate to have this resource on site.

Thanks goes to our partners at DART for facilitating the renovations.

with Liz G.

What is your background and heritage? I am American with French and Irish heritage. Which countries have you lived in? I have lived in the United States and Cayman. How long have you been living in the Cayman Islands? I have been living in Cayman for just over five months. How many years have you been at CIS? I have been at CIS for less than a year.

Describe yourself At least a few of your best and worst personality traits) I am an honest and intuitive person who values respect; however, I can sometimes be too honest, quiet and/or shy. Describe your favorite family tradition. My favorite family tradition is breakfast the Friday morning after Thanksgiving. My dad heats up the left-over stuffing in a frying-pan with chunks of turkey, toasts the dinner roles with butter, and makes scrambled eggs to go with them. Although Thanksgiving is delicious, breakfast the day after is by far the best meal of the year. If you could have any superpower, what would it be? Why? If I could have a superpower, I would chose teleportation so that traveling from place to place would not take time and I could be anywhere in the world at any given moment. It would also make commuting from Rum Point a lot easier. What is your favorite quote? Why? My favorite quote is “Life is good” because it’s simple and it’s true. What is your dream job/career? Why? For my dream job, I would be a successful CEO of a big business and double as a professional tap dancer, who still has time for a husband, family, and friends. This would be the perfect job because I would make money and be able to exercise intelligence as a CEO, while pursuing my passion for tap dance and living a happy and comforting life full of loved-ones. What are your plans after you graduate from CIS? After graduation, I plan to enjoy my last summer at home, then return to the US for college, where I’ll hope-fully figure out my future and start living the rest of my life.
