Welcome David Crane - Denton Baptist...
Transcript of Welcome David Crane - Denton Baptist...
Spring and Summer provide a
great time to plan and host an
outdoor ministry event. People
are anxious to enjoy the
outdoors after being cooped up
during the cold and rainy
season of winter. It is a great
time to schedule and reserve
the Block Party Trailer (BPT).
Last year the Texas Baptists
Convention donated a Block
Party Trailer to Denton Baptist
Association. To date this unit
has been used by six different
churches to support eight
different ministry events. It has
also been reserved for six
future evangelistic
opportunities. The Block Party
Trailer is a great tool for
reaching people and sharing
the gospel.

OUTDOOR OUTREACH
Denton Baptist
Association is
thrilled to
announce that
David Crane
has been hired
as our new
Hispanic
Associate. This
is a new staff
position for DBA. The Search Team,
composed of Chris Walden, Stephen
Hatfield, John Guerra, Felix Cornier,
Rafael Natividad and Wonaka Williams,
earnestly sought God’s choice to fill this
position. The recommendation to hire
David was made at a Special Called
Executive Board meeting on March 29. A
secret ballot was taken and
David was unanimously approved. David
will officially join the DBA staff on April 1.
David and his wife Joye have been IMB
missionaries in Colombia for the past 30
years and returned to the states after
taking early retirement. David and Joye
joined First Baptist Church, Denton where
Joye’s parents are long time members.
David has previous ties to Denton for he
attended UNT (then North Texas State
University) and received his Bachelor’s
degree in music. He also attended
Southwestern Seminary where he
received his Master’s in Church Music.
David and Joye are both fluent in Spanish
and have a love for the Hispanic
community. Together they have visited
the Hispanic churches in our
association, meeting the pastors and
members of these congregations prior
to his being hired for this position.
David’s duties will involve working with
the Hispanic population of Denton
County. He will fulfill this task on
several fronts. David will work with our
existing Hispanic churches to
strengthen them so they can reach the
120,000 Hispanics living in Denton
County, and he will help start more
Hispanic churches. David will be
responsible for contacting each DBA
church to determine if other Hispanic
congregations are meeting in their
facilities. He will also translate and
oversee all Spanish correspondence
that is sent to our churches.
As David begins working with DBA,
please take the time to get to know
him, and consider sponsoring a new
Hispanic work in your community.

demonstrate how to properly use the
trailer is scheduled for Saturday, April
9 from 9:00 until 11:30 A.M. at Camp
Copass. Tim Knopps, the designer of
our trailer, will be on hand to share the
most effective ways that the trailer can
be used. Tim comes to us having been
involved with block party ministry for
several years. He has worked with the
North American Mission Board, as well
as several state conventions and
associations showing them how to use
the trailer to achieve lasting success.
Secrets to a BPT Event
Tim will be sharing with us the
elements of a good block party. Did
you know that the best food to serve at
a block party is BBQ chicken?
Because it is eaten with a fork, it
encourages folks to sit down at a table
and eat. While people are enjoying
their meals at the tables, members of
the local church visit with them and
share the gospel. Tim will give
suggestions about where an event
should be held. He will demonstrate
how to unpack the trailer and set up
the contents. Tim will have the
participants at the training unpack the
trailer, set up the games, blow ups,
sound system, and tables and chairs,
so it will be a hands-on training.
Attendance Bonus
Churches who participate in the
training will benefit by having their
usage fee waved on their first
reservation. If you came to the first

The UNT BSM took 30 people (staff,
students and BSM Friends) to Beach
Reach on South Padre Island, TX,
for Spring Break (March 12-18). This
year, there were over 800 college
students who joined together to
verbally share the Gospel of Jesus with
those they encountered. Beach Reach
provides many opportunities to engage
Spring Breakers through servant
evangelism: giving van rides, providing
pancake breakfasts, cleaning the
beaches and sharing
the Gospel to people
on the beaches. Last
week we saw God
work in amazing ways.
There were 11,000
people served
pancakes, 17,316
were given van rides,
154 people came to
faith in Jesus and 52
people baptized. Our BSM students
shared the Gospel and 4 people
accepted Christ.
The BSM staff views Beach Reach as
a catalyst for personal evangelism in
the lives of our students. Every aspect
of Beach Reach, from the training
beforehand to the thousands of
conversations our students have on the
trip, provokes a desire and urgency
within our students to share the Gospel
on our campus.

with the girls helping them to see that
true beauty and love are inward
qualities. The love of Jesus was
demonstrated daily as the students
interacted with the girls.
Alex Almeida,
a senior from
Brownsville,
commented,
“It was cool to
see these
girls get
attached and bring us into their world.
Because of what they have been
through, it would be easy to remain
distant. In the few days we were there,
the girls really connected and bonded
with us.”

UNT BSM: Beach Reach
Students from the TWU BSM went to
Madill, OK to serve at the Oklahoma
Home for Girls. In the mornings the
students did some landscaping and
worked with some of the girls living at
the home. This
trip was all
about building
relationships
and helping the
girls at the
home to know
Jesus, love
others and love themselves.
The afternoons included games, crafts
and pampering the girls with
manicures. One of our students had
the opportunity to share her testimony
